He jointly founded Dufur with his brother A.J. After the death of his first wife, Susan Zimmerman, he married Carrie Ella Menefee, daughter of William R. Menefee. My mother, Mary Spears Menefee said that when he died [after she and my father were married] the State of Oregon had a minute of silence in remembrance of his contributions to the State.
