Bernard Capen came from Dorchester in old England and was one ofthe first settlers of Dorchester, Massachusetts. He was grantedland in August 1633, and built a large house, which was stillstanding as of 1928. It was considered one of the oldest homesin New England. In 1909,the house was moved to Milton,Massachusetts. Bernard died in 1638 and was buried in the OldNorth Burial Ground. His original gravestone has been preservedby the New England Historical and Genealogical Society inBoston.

He is credited for the many who "wrong in the books morethan anyone by far." These would be the town records. He isburied in the North Burying Ground, in Dorchester,Massachusetts.
