In1656, John was made Deacon of the Dorchester Church. He wasRepresentative of Dorchester in 1671, and again from 1673 to1678. He is credited for the many who "wrong in the books morethan anyone by far." These would be the town records. He isburied in the North Burying Ground, in Dorchester,Massachusetts. His stone reads, "Here lyss Buried YeBody ofCapt. John Capen. He was Deacon of ye Church of Christ inDorchester. He Died April ye 6th 1692 in ye 80th year of age."
