Albert Teets enrolled at Brandonville on 10/12/1861; in CompanyC, 3d Regt, WV Cav. Commanded by William B. Shaw; He wasmustered into service as 1st Sgt on 12/31/1861 at Clarksburg,VA.

He was injured in back and hips when on or about 5/1/1862 in theline of duty when his horse fell through a bridge at Strausburg,VA (in the Shenandoah Valley) and he then was run over by anumber of horses.

He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant order of 2/12/1864, andpromoted to 1st Lieutenant on 9/8/1864 and was HonorablyDischarged on 6/28/1865 at Wheeling, WV.

From letter of John Lawrence Teets: "When Co. "C" was organizedat Brandonville, 1861, motivated by the early death of theirelder brother William,--his brother, Elisha, John, and Albert inthat order all volunteered for service. It was a deep blow, areal sacrifice on part of their parents, Henry and Elizabeth."Mother wept, the Father stood proud" - as Albert later onrelated. Albert was elected First Sergeant of the Company. Hewas seriously injured in August 1862, near Strassburg-Woodstock,Valley of Virginia, south of Winchester, riding hard to screenan infantry build-up in the General Phil Sheridan days--whencrossing abridge, Albert's mount.....(let Albert tell it fromhis own explanation in copyof his Declaration for originalinvalid pension, dated 2/21/1883 -- 18 years after honorabledischarged --....."on or about 1 of May 1862 was injured in backand hips caused by his horse falling through a bridge and he(Albert) being run over by a number of horses. He (Albert) isvery much disabled." (What isn't told is that, he was pickedup by another member, of the company and rode on untilthemission completed, he was given medical attention, that requiredimmediate field surgery and Albert was thereafter unable tobecome a father.)
