J., Concerning the Samuel Harvey who died in Hector, Tompkins Co., New York, his gravestone inscription, as read by Karen Dickson, "d. 22 May 1742" or "22 May 1747" "aged 82 yrs - 10 mos." She wasn't sure whether the last digit was a "2" or a "7". The probate proceedings list a death date of 22 May 1747, so I think that is the correct date. Calculating a birth date by subtracting 82 yrs 10 mos, from the 22 May 1747 date of death gives 22 July 1764. So to me it appears that Samuel Harvey, Jr., son of Robert and husband of Lydia, was born about 22 Jul 1764 and died 22 May 1847. That birth date means that Samuel Harvey was the son of Robert's 3rd wife, Hannah White. So this Samuel Harvey, son of Robert, was age 12 when Jane Harvey was born in 1776. The 1830 & 1840 censuses of Hector, Tompkins Co., New York confirm that Samuel was born 1760-1770. I think we have to look for another Samuel Harvey as the father of Jane Harvey. Perhaps Miss Ayres was the 3rd wife of Robert's brother Samuel. Brother Samuel did not leave a will and there is very little evidence that mentions him. His sister Hannah left a will and mentioned Samuel's son Thomas and daughter Margaret and Thomas' daughters Margaret and Hannah.
