Stevens expires of heart disease in his 86th year. William Kimball Stevens, a resident of the city for 70 years, was found dead in bed at his residence No. 345 Hamilton St., Sunday night. The cause of death was heart disease. He had been under treatment by Wm. H. Murray, his health having been poor for some time past. The deceasedwas born in Pennsylvania in 1799 and came to this city when a mere lad. The remainder of his long life had been spent in the city. In the days of the old city watch he received an appointment upon it, and was eventually promoted to becaptain of the watch, a position he held for some years. Subsequently he worked at his trade of carpenter and finally became a builder of prominence in the city, continuing in active service untill the weight of years compelled his retirement. He was married to Rachel Garrison, a connection of the Garrisons of West Point, who survives him. She too, is in precarious health from a recent stroke of paralysis. She was born in 1800, and was only one year younger than her deceased husband at the time of his death. The funeral, which took place this afternoon, was private. The deceased left several children, among them Mr. Thomas W. Stevens of the Court of Appeals.
