- the above information was taken from typed copy from Peggy Eberhardt who took it from Andrew Shields' pension records

According to Arthur Shields' interview with Peggy Eberhardt, Andrew or (Mr.) Shields was a "very hard taskmaster" and he used to horsewhip the children - all but Frank, most likely due to his small size and his having only one eye.

(Could this be my Andrew? Family sources say that he was in the civil war - enlisted through the Brooklyn Ship Yard, and this is the only Andrew Shields that I can find as a NY unit/company.)

1.
man Francis Joseph Shields‏
Nickname: Frank, born ‎ Jan 1868 at Brooklyn,Kings Co. NY, died ‎ Feb 10, 1934 at Park East Hospital,New York City,NY‎, 66 years, cause of death: chronic myocardis, gastric ulcer and cholelethiares(sp?), buried ‎ Feb 14, 1934 at St. Johns Cemetery #1882. Nickname: Frank
Cause of Death: gastric ulcer
Occupation: New York Stock Exchange Clerk for 10 years

Frank lost his eyesight in one eye as a baby. He was sitting in his highchair next to a window when a snowball (it was snowing and kids were playing snowball fight) crashed through the window, breaking the glass. A piece of the glass flew into his eye and put his eye out.
2.
woman Catherine Shields‏‎
Born ‎ 1869 at Brooklyn,Kings Co. NY‎
According to the 1880 US census, this girl (her name is very hard to read - I'm making my best guess that it is Catherine) was "maimed, crippled, bedridden, or otherwise disabled". However, she is listed as being "at school". Also according to Arthur M. Shields interview with Margaret (Peg) Shields/Eberhardt, she is Mary (Aunt Minnie? Mimi?).

3rd marriage
man Andrew Sylvester Shields‏‎, son of James Shields and Hannah *‏.

Married ‎ Oct 6, 1872 at Church of Srs.Peter and Paul,Brooklyn,NY,by John B. Fagan to:

woman Rose Mc Kenna‏‎, daughter of Unknown Shields *father of Rose Mc Kenna and Unknown Shields *mother of Rose Mc Kenna‏.
Married name: Mc Kenna, Shields, born ‎between Jun 3, 1844-5 and at Scotland, died ‎ May 11, 1910 at New York‎. Occupation: ‎ 1880 at Brooklyn,Kings Co. NY; homemaker, ‎1st marriage to: Andrew Sylvester Shields, 2nd married/ related to: Unknown Mc Kenna
I'm not positive anymore that the census information for Rose is correct, as it would make her birth date 1830, which would mean that she had Mary when she was 47. While this is not impossible, I'm not sure that it is probable.
