Anna Mae+ Hobson, daughter of Elkanah+ Hobson and Frances Jane+ Mikels. Born Sep 1884 at Sheridan, IN, died Oct 3, 1953 at Indianapolis, IN, 69 years To see a photo of Anna Mae and Henry Howard in what is thought to be a 1901 wedding-day picture, and a photo of Anna Mae in her older years, please see my genealogy website at Tribal Pages . SOURCES: Family archives and records. NOTE: My mother states in my baby book (recently found after years of believing it was lost) that her grandmother's name was "Anna Helene" Hobson rather than the "Anna Mae" that is recorded with sources, so I am looking into whether mom made an error or if perhaps Anna had an additional name of "Helene". (vjp 6/19/2005). HISTORICAL HI-LITES: In the year Anna Mae was born the British occupied Cairo, Egypt, the Pacific Stock Exchange opened (as the Local Security Board), Life magazine was founded, and US Civil Service was established. In 1882, Mary Todd Lincoln died and Samuel Goldwyn (pioneer filmmaker) was born. Married/ Related to: Henry Howard+ Mikels, son of William Henry+ Mikels and Elizabeth Elvina+ Hutchins. Born 1868 at IN, died May 19, 1922 at Hamilton Co., IN, 53 or 54 years To see a photo of Anna Mae and Henry Howard in what is thought to be a 1901 wedding-day picture, and a photo of Anna Mae in her older years, please see my genealogy website at Tribal Pages . I have two family stories on how Henry died. The first states that Henry eventually died from complications of his injuries during service in the Spanish-American war (although pension records erroneously listed him in service during the American Civil War). The other is that he died from food poisoning. Everyone agrees, however, that Henry was a super-strict Quaker minister. I am also told that Henry lived next door to Anna Mae and her parents during and after the death of his first wife (her name and information are not yet known to me, but I am told that they had a daughter named Lillian who died in infancy (no documentation as yet)--that my mother might have been named for that child). Rebel that I am, I was stunned to learn about him in 2002 and to find that he was a Quaker minister! Indiana Spanish-American War Records: He was a recruit from Sheridan, IN from 6/23/1898 to 11/04/1898. HISTORICAL HI-LITES: In the year Henry Howard was born, Brigham Young married his 27th (and final) wife, Preside. Children: 1. Elkanah Mikels2. Anna Ruth MikelsBorn ± 1903 3. Luzelle R.+ MikelsBorn Feb 4, 1906 at Indiana, died Aug 9, 1954 at San Rafael, CA, 48 years Name means "Little Light" To see a photo of Luzelle, please go to my genealogy website at Tribal Pages . The story passed from my mother to me was that her mother Luzelle had "run away" from an "arranged marriage" and met my grandfather (Emory Ellsworth) who was on a bus somewhere between Indiana and Illinois. I very much doubt that my mother was aware that Luzelle actually had gone through with the first marriage and had a child; it appears to have only been learned in the last few years by her siblings. Beyond that, my mother either did not know about, or outright refused to discuss, her genealogy except to say that there were some Quakers in the line. One piece of information that still eludes me was that my mother referred to her mother Luzelle as "cajon", which I understand would be French and Indian, and that she (my mother) was 1/8th Indian blood. The few family siblings remaining either have no knowledge of this or at least have not mentioned it, but my mother, being the oldest, was very close to Luzelle. So far, I have found some indirect lines of Indian blood, but not direct. (12/05 vjp) Luzelle and Emory came west to California just after WWII started, 1942. Source: Family knowledge and records. Marriage is recorded in Marion, IN, Book 120, Pg 365. 4. Edward Legar MikelsBorn Sep 24, 1909 at IN, died Jul 30, 1996 at Los Angeles, Ca., 86 years |
