        BARONY of ALDEBURGH or ALDBROUGH (I)

        Sir William Aldeburgh, of ALdeburgh, now Aldbrough, in Richmondshire, son and heir of Sir Iveas Aldeburgh, of the same, by Mary, his wife (c). He was sometime valettus to Edward Baliol, King of Scotland. In 1364, Sir Robert de l'Isle of Rougemont enfeoffed him and Elizabeth, his wife, of the manor of Harewood, co. York. He was summoned to Parliament 8 Jan 1370/1 to 8 Aug 1386, by writs directed Willelmo de Aldeburgh, whereby he is held to have become Lord Aldeburgh. He m. before 1364, Elizabeth, who d. in or before 1378. He d. 1 Apr 1388.

        (c) (i) Mary, widow of Sir Ives de Aldeburgh, gave to William, her son, lands in Aldeburgh 22 Edward III. (ii) William, son of Sir Ives de Aldeburgh, gave to John, son of William de Moubray, and to Margaret, John's wife, his manor of Aldeburgh in Richmondshire, 26 Edward III. Seal: A lion rampant charged with a fleur de lis. (iii) Edward III, confirmed to William, son and heir of Ives de Aldeburgh, lands in Brokesmouth, co. Roxburgh, which Edward Baliol, King of Scotland, had given to Ives, 13 Nov 1347.
