See Life Sketch for son-in-law John de Towneley 1415-1474.

It is possible that Sir Richard had another son or his son Robert had a child from whom is descended Sir Richard Shirburne who is mentioned in a Deed Poll dated 1558 alongside John Towneley, Thomas Caterall and Thomas Howell - all names associated with the Towneley.

There is also a writ dated 1506 in the reign of Henry VII which names Ralph Catarall, Lawrence Towneley and Roger Shireburne
