I have one of these that I got back in 2003 and was my first entry into
getting a portable mac. Mine also does the 1/2 the display of lines but
it's on the top. My fix (sorta) has been to flex the display but looks like
it needs to have the case looked into. As for a fix I would suggest looking
into ifixit:
https://www.ifixit.com/Search?query=powerbook+5300
and see if there's help there or ask a question there. Just scrolling down
