Would anyone care to share their thoughts on Star Trek Beyond? I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was the best of the reboots. Even though it had action overload, it also had a lot of the character interactions that we've come to love about Trek. I laughed out loud several times and enjoyed the references to TOS and ENT.
I wish I could be at the Las Vegas 50 year convention. From what I'm seeing on Twitter, it looks like a blast!

Seemed to me to be a run of the mill action flick-- perhaps a tad
above average. There was a little bit of good character interaction
between Kirk/Spock/McCoy, but not much, IMO. The Sodomite Sulu thing
was a waste of screen time and shows how ridiculous the writers are
when it comes to retroactively applying their own agendas on the
character archetypes (George Takai's criticisms of this move were spot
on). The story had a lot of holes, or at least plot devices that were
just way too convenient. The main antagonist was supposed to have
this "well earned hatred" of the Federation but ended up to be nothing
more than a bad case of PTSD, for all I could see. It was not
believable enough, perhaps just a result of the bigotry of the writers
against military people. Who knows.
Of the reboot movies this was the least impressive of the three to me.
Wait for the Blu Ray is my recommendation.

I can't argue those points. Are we to believe that in this different timeline someone is gay but they are heterosexual in the original timeline? That is quite a stretch.
I thought also that the villain's hate ran too deep for the given backstory. I still liked the movie. The comment about the green hand in space was great.
