In the ass-backwards US way of writing dates, Monday is Star Wars
Day
("May 4th") and there's a few things happening here in New
Zealand ...

- This weekend the Toyworld chain of toy shops is
having free Star Wars Fun Days on Saturday 2
and Sunday 3, May, with Star Wars-based
activities, etc. for kids.

- On Monday, 4 May the Stardome observatory and
planetarium has some "special shows", which really
just means slightly tweaked versions of their usual
planetarium shows, but anyone dressed up as a Star
Wars character will get free entry.

- On Monday, 4 May Sky TV's Disney XD channel has a
day of Star Wars-themed shows (6:00am - midnight):
Rebels marathons, The New Yoda Chronicles, Phineas
& Ferb Star Wars episode, and Kickin' It Star Wars
episode.

Well, May the 4th Be with you...

SW (the original movie) was released in the States 25 May, 2015.
We'd write May 25, 1977, usually. We're middle-endians.
NZ nust be little-endian.

The real bass-ackwards way of writing the date is 2015/05/25 - big endian.
I find that useful, sometimes, such as when creating computer file names.

The Kickin' It episode was complete idiotic garbage ... just like all
Disney's "teen" shows.

Toyworld stores also had a 20% off Star Wars sale on Monday as well.

For people anywhere in the world, the ThinkGeek.com webstore currently
has 20% off all Star Wars items (until midnight "May the 4th", US time)
and a free pin with all Star Wars order US$20+.

I thought you were American-endians aka red endians living in teepees /
wigwams and saying "How". ;-)

New Zealand does things the proper English way - dates written
correctly, words spelt correctly, words with correct definitions, etc.

Having dates that way will sort in the correct date order, although you
shouldn't use "/" characters in filenames since they are special
characters on some operating systems. It's better to use a "-"
character instead.

Hey, let's have no maor `i that! :)

My American spell-checker underlined spelt. It reserves that for a type of wheat.

Quote:

Spelled is not a recent Americanism, as many people assume (including some who have commented on this post). Both spelled and spelt are old, and examples of each are easily found in historical Google Books searches covering the 17th and 18th centuries.

So, sometimes, our spelling changes (removing the second "u" from
"humor, frex")O were conscious attempts to modernize. Sometimes
we in Leftpondian retained an older usage the UK dropped.

Oh, I never use "/" in computer files. Underscore will do, if I feel I need
one at all. 20150518rasfswm.txt would be a perfectly cromulent file.

Despite what they like to claim, the Maori weren't the first people to
arrive in New Zealand. The first people here, although there weren't a
huge number of them, were the Moriori who also came from the Pacific
islands. The Maori arrived later and went about killing (and in some
cases eating) the Moriori.

So all idiocy about Maori deserving special treatment and compensation
because Europeans stole their land and treated Maoris badly is a load
of greedy, hypocritical crap. All the land the Government has given
back to Maori trusts in recent years should really be given back to the
Moriori (almost none of which still exist, even in watered down,
inter-racial form).

There are even some claims that ancient Greek and Roman sailors got
down here well before the Moriori.
