The so-called improved termcap entry posted by joemu@nsc-pdc (besides
being rude - what do you mean ``works most of the time''?) does not
correct for a difference between 1.0 and 1.1 console devices. There
is a change in the way newline is handled by the console device on
output. In 1.0 a newline caused an ``index'' that is, the cursor
moved down but stayed in the same column.

In 1.1, a newline (in the default setting) causes the cursor to move
down and to the left margin. This is more in keeping (according to
the person at Commodore who made the change) with the ANSI terminal
standard. So...specifying nl to be a control J with out specifying a
terminal initialization string (putting the console device into the
other newline handling mode) will cause Joe's termcap entry to fail
under 1.1

Also, Joe's termcap entry references fields which are not portable to
most termcap implementations. At least, my Ultrix documentation does
not mention such fields as ``xm.''

On the plus side, Joe's termcap entry did have scroll forward and
reverse. I don't have any Amiga documentation nearby and I do not
remember those functions being described. If they are indeed handled
by the console device then by all means they should be put in my
posted termcap entry.

In any event, Joe's termcap entry will have to be corrected before it
can be useful. (Say..what did you mean by ``works most of the time &
your's is even better?).

On a related note - the terminfo entry I posted overlooked reverse
video. It can be added using the same escape sequences found in either
posted termcap entries.
