I see there's a "so bad it's good" cult film out there now called "The
Room" (see
<http://blogs.abcnews.com/theworldnewser/2009/05/the-movie-
thats.html>)

Has anyone here seen it? I wonder if it would be riffable....

"The crowds that show up to the screenings go more for the experience
than the movie itself. Fans dress up in costume, they carry props like
those in the movies, and they bring items they can throw at the screen
during the cheesiest of scenes. At one point in the movie when an actor
lights up a joint, many in the crowd do the same."

When the mainstream audience think's they've discovered "the next Rocky
Horror" for the sake of thinking they've discovered one, it usually
*isn't* riffable. Often painfully so. >_<
(Except for "Mommie Dearest" near the end of its original run, but that
was about the time gay audiences had caught on, anyway.)

Derek Janssen (so, we can assume Wiseau has now caught the
imagined-celebrity fever of Uwe Boll's Disease?)

I've seen it and it is monumentally riffable, one of the most riffable
things ever created.
And has been: http://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax/room
They did a good job, but even they admitted that the movie's own
unintentional hilarity outshines any hilarity they could cook up.

Sampo (and Lisa is looking very sexy today)

I'm hoping Rifftrax will be doing "The Exorcist" sometime in the future.
It is a movie well open for some severe parody commentary. "Repossed"
(1990) with Leslie Nielsen wasn't a bad parody stab at the movie.

SCENE
(Regan is bouncing on the bed like a car with bunny hop lifters)

Commentary: "All... my... friends... are driving low riders"
(hum-whistles the tune)

I find that, for me, if a movie's audio is too intense, or its music
too intense, loud, effective, creepy, etc., the riffing isn't enough
to offset it.

I don't think that putting audio of our riffers on top of all the ugly
sounds of The Exorcist would turn it into comedy for me.

But I could be wrong. I liked Werewolf, but I think that the film's
general incompetence allowed the riffing to overcome the "horror
audio."

(I hope that all made sense.)

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing "The Room."

You should see some of the Amazon.com reviews:

Samples:

"I have now seen Mr. Tommy Wiseau's cinematic tour-de-force, `The Room'
three times. With each viewing, `The Room' becomes more complexly entangled
in and inseparable from my own life. I no longer know where The Room ends
and I begin."

"This movie is proof that the human spirit is an indomitable force. Forget
all the other reviews that state the obvious. This movie will change you
forever. The universe has chosen Tommy Wiseau to raise the collective tide
of our souls . The mere existence of this "final product" (shot in Film AND
Hi Def Video) proves that we, like Mr. Wiseau, can overcome our past, our
physical challenges, and our personal demons. We can all start lookin' for a
bigger place."

"The best place to watch this movie is in a cinema where barrels of beers
are served, where the crowd is also in an anger management peer modeling
session, where bullets from semi-automatic hand guns are allowed to be
sprayed at will toward the screen. I mean, it takes much more than the
perfect alignment of all the planets in the solar system to make a movie of
this magnitude."

"Ok, imagine there was a real-life Borat, someone who was so foreign to
basic American customs and social behavior, someone whose language skills
were limited to basic words and non-sequiturs gathered from reading bad pulp
novels and hanging out with high-school dropouts behind 7-Eleven. Now
imagine that this Borat-like individual had rich relatives, and had decided
to self-finance a film that he wrote, produced, directed and starred in.
Lastly, imagine him with a long black hairdo circa Scorpions 1985, and
imagine his body looking like a weirdly muscular Mr.Burns from the Simpsons
and you're starting to get the picture."
