The movie "UP" (2009) was very good.
I would rate it as one of Pixar's best despite a few logical issues of
Carl being mostly sedentary when he is old to moving into some fairly high
exertion action later in the movie. Also toss in some illogical
time-transitional issues and obvious wind-pattern impossibilities to mix in
the journey to South America and these are the only big plot issues that are
seriously problematic.
The movie is well worth watching and "kid safe" in most Conservative
demographics.
I now want to see it in 3D.

[general plot spoilers below]
[close this immediately if you don't want to know some of the basic
plot!]

Basic plotline is a young man is watching a movie at the theater about
the explorer Charles Muntz (voiced by Christopher Plummer) who lost his
official status with an explorer society after his find was deemed a fake by
the scientific community. The young boy, Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Edward
Asner), vows to go see South America's "Paradise Falls" after meeting Ellie
(voiced by Elie Docter) and falling in love with her.

Years go by, Ellie and Carl marry, life's interruptions intercede, and
the promise to go to Paradise Falls is shuffled into the background. Ellie
passes away and society begins building a fancy new skyscraper around Carl's
house.

Carl gets in a scuffle with a construction employee over the damaged
mailbox and the courts declare him a menace and force him into a retirement
home the next day. Carl escapes the controlled life of a retirement village
by airlifting his home with a vast (illogically tiny amount of balloons for
the shown weight-lifted) helium balloon cloud (which would rub against each
other in flight) tethered to his fireplace. A "Wilderness Explorer Scout"
Russel (voiced by Jordan Nagai) who visited him the previous day is found on
his front porch many hundreds of feet up in the air to join him on the
adventure. Russel helps guide the house to Paradise Falls though his
handheld GPS unit while Carl is asleep (which is time-impossible in under 48
hours and logically impossible for known world weather and equatorial
jetstream patterns) after encountering a thunderstorm cloud.

At any rate, the adventure takes off from there as the house drifts down
from hundreds of feet up to the top of the rocky elevated plateau of
Paradise Falls, but not at the falls themselves. All of the plot points
then logically proceed (in the context of the animated universe) as each
acting character is introduced and the long sought after mystery bird joins
the main cast.

I really liked the film too. And I'm glad you made clear which "Up" you
were talking about, lest they think you were referring to this one:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075376

For the record, I enjoyed that film too, but I wouldn't take the whole
family to see it.

It's kind of like "Commando", for the elderly!

Well, the existence of TALKING DOG technology might have some impact
on the world-as-we-know-it. I wonder who gets the patent to that at
the end of the film? ;-)

Hoping that Kevin makes an appearance at the Enchanted Tiki Room at
some point!
