Requests to obtain pirated copies of copyright material are at best in
poor taste, and at worst illegal. Be it known that Lucasfilm, Ltd., the
copyright owner of ROJ and ESB (and my former employer) will vigourously
prosecute ANYONE (not just the `big guys') who violates their copyright.
Their lawyers are bigger than your lawyers, and they have nothing better to
do with their time than protect the company's property.

Furthermore, counselling or soliciting the commision of a crime is itself
a crime. Such activity using as fragile a medium as USENET is a grievous
breach of propriety. I take it as a personal insult, if not an injury.
If you do it again, I will personally drive to Piscataway and kill your pet
budgie.

Also, USENET extends to the Lucasfilm Computer Division, and thence to the
legal department. They ALREADY know that this request was posted.

Respect for our intellectual property laws is part and parcel of respect
for an individual's right to benefit from the fruit of his labors. That
George's income is in the millions of dollars per annum does not diminish
his right to one red cent of it, and it certainly increases his ability to
defend himself.

I am a champion of intellectual freedom and therefore a friend of the protection
of intellectual property. It is a Libertarian maxim that `All property is
theft.' The only case in which this fails is that of intellectual property.
You own the things you devise, and no one (esp. P. M. Iurilli) has the right
to deprive you of them.

I have digressed. I intended only to say that I am offended and insulted
by this solicitation to violate the intellectual property laws. I strongly
reccomend that anyone considering such a conspiracy think twice, and I demand
an apology for this offensive and insulting behavior.

This must be a joke. Who in their right mind would tempt fate
so boldly? Advertising for pirate copies of unreleased movies?
You gotta be kidding. It makes me nervous to think what could
happen to the writer if Lucas and Co. see that bold article.

I ALSO do not think one should use a forum such as USENET
to solicit for pirated copies of copyright material lest
we loose the right to this medium altogether!

What do you mean IF, ILM is on the net, when is much more accurate. This
fellow was not playing with a full deck, me thinks.

Maybe it's just Big Brother trying to entrap somebody into coming
accross with the tapes.

Well look, stooge, if I had copies of those films on VT, I sure as
hell wouldn't let on about it! Why don't you advertise for some
Cocaine in net.wanted while you're at it?

As long as we're on the subject: The original "Star Wars" has
been available LEGALLY for quite some time now, but does anybody
know if it's available in VHS Hi-Fi? I don't have a VHS Hi-Fi
VCR, but I might get one with stereo TV coming and movies like
SW available with high-quality stereo soundtracks.

Ah, now it becomes clear. This is obviously a sting operation.

i feel a tiny (but not too much) sorry for you. criminal action out on the
open public with disregard for the law makes a strong legal case against you.
and doing it in a newsgroup which LucasFilm folks must surely read takes
a whole bunch of GAUL. (perhaps you could go for the insanity defense?)

normally i would just let the other comments stand, but in this case i feel
it is important for USENET folks to strongly condemn your action.
legal stuff aside, your type of request does harm to the net. USENET
can be the forum for the exchange of useful information, and a place to
relax and hang out. but using it for shady reasons is one way to ruin
it for others.

You are asking for a flagrant, solicited violation of US patent law. This will
not be a case of harmlessly or unknowingly posting material to the net. There
is no legal question here except that of exactly which crimes the prosecutor
will choose to charge you with. So far, the only one that I am aware of is
solicitation of an illegal act. Anyone who assists you will be an accomplice
at best.

If you want Hi-fidelity sound versions of SW-ANH, get yourself a laserdisc
player and a copy of it (you may have to try several copies - LD QA is not
so hot..)

Lately, LaserDisc quality has been running about 80-90 % good,
as viewed on a LD-700 player and a Kloss 87 inch projector.
The older players can often be had cheaply (trade-in) but
cupped discs cause interference which does not affect the LD-700.

"The Empire Strikes Back" is supposed to be out on videocassette
and laserdisk around Christmas. Some video stores are already
taking orders (I have mine in!).

Concerning videotapes of The Empire Strikes Back, one local video store in the
SF Bay Area says that it will have it in stock by Nov 12. For those in the
Bay Area, the store is:

	Claremont/Rockridge Home Video
	5899 College Avenue
	Oakland, California
	(415) 428-9107

For the rest of you, I would imagine that it should be available in other
areas before Christmas. I learned about the release from a newspaper add.
