I am looking for improved (ie fast + screen does not disappear) routines
for both cassette saving and loading of areas of store.

If anyone could point me towards something I would be most grateful.

TURBO tape in Dec84 or Jan85 COMPUTE! is as fast as standard disk -
the HOBBIT loads in 2 minutes - you've got to give up the screen, though.
