Just got a DV SE this week and noticed discs get jammed in it. If you have
one stuck in there, I have been able to get them out by putting two credit
cards in the drive, on below disc and one on top, apply pressure, and
extracting it. The old drives may be repairable with some lubrication or
something. Haven't looked into it yet ;)

As alternative, how about using a different machine to create images
of the DVD/CD disks, and mounting the images ?
Cheers

I completely understand. I just didn't know if you had a disc stuck in
there. I upgraded the ram to 1 gig in mine last night, and with that I did
a fresh install of Tiger. It was not fun trying to get the discs out LOL.

Interesting... a desktop slot loader.
I bought one early this year and haven't tho't to check the DVD drive. The
one I had at Disney had a tray loading DVD.
I used macs early on in my life but abandoned them for NeXT in '88. The
blue+white has appeal to me coz it ran a variety of incarnations of
post-NeXTStep, including OSX. But OSX was slow slow slow on the blue+white
compared to the earlier releases.
I'd like to make a backup of the hard drive... since it's obviously
ancient. What do y'all use to boot with on the old ATA-3 / PATA
interfaces. Would like to install Rhapsody and DP1 on one or more drives
just ot have around. Rhapsody ran really nicely on that machine... as well
as various Dell machines I used to use for business reasons. I just found
all those old disks... yellow box/NT etc hehe. I think I ran yellow box on
XP when it came out too.
