Child World in Hazlet,NJ and Eatontown, NJ advertised in a 11/11/84 paper:
	800XL $119.95
	1050 $179.95
At the JACG club meeting Saturday, 11/10/84, an Atari dealer in Cedar Knolls
advertised in a printed handout:
	800XL $129.95
	1050 $179.95
An "electronics" store in Woodbridge Mall (NJ) was observed on 11/11/84 with:
	800XL $129.95
These seem to be the new prices, not just one day only sale prices!!

The Cedar Knolls dealer advertised a modification kit for the 1050 that
add true double density capability, and a claimed three times speed up in
transfer rate. I have forgotten the manufacturer. Has anybody had any
experience with such a modification??

In today's NY Times (11/15) Atari has a full-page ad announcing the new
price of the 800XL to be $119.95. Also, in Tuesday's Science Times
section, which tends to run numerous computer store ads, an outfit
called Harmony Video in Bklyn was advertising 1050's for under $150.
(I think the exact price was $139.) They have a toll-free line for
anyone interested.

Now, the big question is, is Trammiel just clearing the shelves before
discontinuing the line altogether, or is this a revenge move against
Commodore for Xmas?

I am contemplating purchasing a computer for my son this Christmas.
With the $120 price tag, the Atari 800XL sounds pretty good, but
I still wonder how it compares to the Commodore. It seems like
there is more software out there for the latter.

How do they compare? Is the graphics better on the Atari? Games
are important. Are the games on Atari comparable to the Commodore?
Is the disk drive for the Atari just as clutzy as the 1541?
I guess the above questions can by grouped together as one: Is the
Commodore worth the $80 price differential?

From the Soap Box of Clancy Malloy:

They don't compare. The Atari is so superior to the C64 that I don't
know where to start. The graphics are better, the games are better and
from what I have seen, there is movve software for the Atari than the
C64. One last comment: A very close friend of mine, who is in the
business of writing games, believes that the Atari is better than; C64,
VIC-20, Adam and TI. He was given all of the small computers and all of the
game machines on the market to write software for them. So he knows what
he's talking about.
