Hey, I noticed the disk version of Winter Games has the 'Lost' version
graphics printed on the back. Are the in-game graphics the same as the
printed graphics - cause if they are you could solve a mystery for
us.

To understand what I'm talking about go here for the story -

http://www.gtw64.co.uk/Pages/w/Review_Wintergamesv1

And screenshots to check which version you have -

While I'm rambling away about this can any of our American friends
shed any light on this case? There seems to be a consensus that the
lost version of Winter Games is actually the American NTSC release
which no one has bothered uploading into the Net.

There are 3 known versions of Winter Games that we've imaged, with many, many comparisons (40+ disks).

Original NTSC release, PAL release, XMAS Bonus release all differ, but none have these graphics. I even have a "Preview" release that was given out to computer stores and they don't have those graphics.

It's either a mock-up, or a version never released.

Thanks for taking the time to check. I was hoping you would read my
post as I was sure the Preservation Project would have archived most
versions of the software.

As to the game itself I have seen comments from staff who worked at
the magazine the version they reviewed was a proper playable version
of the game, so the mock-up theory doesn't stick with me.

So, looks like the search goes on - and the lost Winter Games release
remains lost for the time being.

I checked over the weekend, nothing special about this one -- graphics
are the same as the other versions. The art on the box is just
different, although the caption does say they are from the C64
version.
