All that the 's' in https ensures is:
1) There is a certificate, trusted by one of the root keys loaded in your browser
provided by the site.
2) The traffic between you and the site will be encrypted at the transport layer.
The former doesn't imply security, particularly in cases where a root key
has been compromised (it has happened in the past) or a bogus root
certificate has been installed in your browser. All it means is that the
domain name in the URL matches the domain name in the certificate.
The latter doesn't imply that the _content_ on the site is safe, only that
an intermediary cannot see the traffic.
