I recieved a keyboard and mouse in the mail yesterday and my Mac Classic
fired right up after nearly 10 years in storage (none of it climate
controlled). When I last used it I did recap parts of the board and was
shocked to see that it fired up and the hard disk still worked!

Now I'm on the hunt for a way to transfer files across. It has Stuffit on
the disk, but I don't have a single floppy drive or disk anywhere. I know I
could probably get one, but my only other mac is a first gen macbook (Core
Solo, 2gb of RAM, etc)

I have piles of serial communication hardware from microcomputer projects
and SBC applications. Is there any documentation on making a PC to Mac
serial bridge and just shooting files across using something like xmodem?

Yes, it's straightforward. The Mac serial ports technically use RS-422 while PCs use RS-232, but you can wire up a plain cable and they'll talk to each other just fine.

There are instructions on making such a cable here: http://www.ccadams.org/se/serial.html

If you don't have appropriate serial cables but *do* have an analogue modem for each machine, then you can cheat up a dummy phone line for them to talk over. Instruct one modem to pick up, and the other to dial a 1-digit number without listening for a dialtone. Whether you use that for xmodem or go the extra mile of setting up PPP and then using FTP is up to you.

As far as software is concerned, I recall ClarisWorks 3 had a communications terminal built in. There are undoubtedly more lightweight alternatives as well - try Macintosh Garden.

I can send you some floppies if you'd like, a USB floppy drive should
be available pretty cheap.

I should have some floppies that will turn up if I do cleaning (I know I
saved a pile of them somewhere) and digging up a USB floppy drive shouldn't
be too bad. The next hurdle will be seeing if the floppy drive survived
after years of neglect and outdoor elements.
