I ran into a problem loading files with mixed case on a real C64 from a 1541 disk. I tried renaming the file, and that didn't work. I found that the only way to run them is by using wild-cards. However, I want to be able to load the program from DirMenu, and that doesn't work either. I have the 1541 demo disk. Is there a program on the demo disk that can edit a directory entry directly? I believe that's the only way to fix the casing problem. If there is, which program does it?

If a wild card character is impermissible in the original directory name field of a rename command, try a sector editor, frequently found on a test demo program disk of the drive. These programs can foul up a disk so edit disk copies. The system directory entries on a 1541 disk can be found in track 18.

I never bought a new 1541, so I never got a 1541 test demo disk. The most recent 1541 test/demo disk image on ZIMMERS has a program on it called DISPLAY T&S. After playing with it for a short while, I could only get DISPLAY to displays disk track and sector data. It's not an editor. The program I am thinking of is on my 1571 test/demo disk called C64 DISKPATCH. Two images of the disk can be found here:

Howdy! Joseph,
Use any Disk Editor to edit Track 18 is what came to my mind.
I don't know if the 1541 Demo Disk has one on it, and can't think of a
PRG's Name for You to use.
I haven't used my C=64 for any of that in years.

Hello, and that shouldn't pose a problem as long as you match up the
characters of the file as shown when you list the directory. Use the
ctrl-shift keys to place the display in upper/lower case mode (rather
than the default upper case/symbols mode) and proceed. Or am I missing
something here? Sincerely,
