No, I'm not gonna ramble on about burying disks and checking them later,
so there.

Way back in 1998, my entire CBM setup was deluged by water. Some may
remember posts about it back in the day.

In any case, I am FINALLY at the end of the cleanup. Most of the stuff
I dried out immediately at the time, but I missed a box of disks I was
sorting at the time (which were thus on the desk that was waterlogged)

I've kept them all these years, not sure what to do with them. However,
I don't need them, some were donations and look like copies, etc. so I
am planning on pitching them.

Before I do, though, I wanted to make sure there are good copies of the
disks either on physical media or in D64 format. I'd hate to lose an
irreplaceable piece of SW, rather make sure that they are preserved
somewhere by someone.

If they are not suitably preserved, I'm more than happy to mail the
disks to someone who would like to try extracting the data. I suspect
they need a good cleaning, new disk jackets, and some TLC.

In any case, here is the list:

SUPER PARAMETERS (100 Free Pack)
Parallel Utility CLD89 (Chip Level Designs?) (no label, this is the
diskname/id)
Fast Hack 'Em 3.99 and parms (on side b)
FHE 4.1 and parms (on side b)
128 Cannon (Copiers on A and parms on b)
SuperKit v2 (parms on B)
Parameter's R. Us GEOS Disk 1.
21 second backup
Burst Nibbler v1.1 (by Dynamic Duo) 21 second nibbler, used 21 sec
backup cable, I believe
Diskbusters
Mirror 3.0
Ultrabyte
Fast Hack 'Em (I assume v1)
The lovely named "Pirate's Toolbox" (bi-sector, disk mimic, austrian
copy, copy Q, omni clone, ditto64, kwik copy, quick copy, turbo64
kwik-load, ercheck.wow, super directory, drive 8/9,admach,keys sys code,
find/load/address, bootmaker, and fast format.)
UltraByte 3.0
Assorted disk (Cartridge copy,mr. nibble, disk cracker 4.0, supercatalog,
Copy 190, copy Q, copy II 1.5, fast hack 'em - (c)1985, fast wack 'em
(1984 Mike J Henry...looks very old))
Fast Hack 'Em 3.0
Fast Hack 'Em 2.2
Copy II v2.5
Diskbusters v2
Kracker Jaxx 1
The lovely named "Pirate's Arsenal" Can;t read the diskq to see what is
on it.

If any of these is of interest for archiving, let me know soon.

Jim,

Have you checked with Pette Wittage to see if he needs any of these for
his project?

Failing that, there's still the microwave test, the battery acid test,
the acid rain test, and the fireplace test that we haven't heard any
results out of Arizona about. ;)

I figure he lurks here, so he'll pipe up if he needs one.

I'll let you know how they survive the "taken to the dump" test. I
suspect the worst.

Jim

If you want to have some fun, re-format one of them and write "Westfall
- Incomplete" on the label before it goes to the dump.

Then wait a week or so, and announce that you saw a disk when you were
dumping some furniture at the local landfill.

What fun, what fun!

I saw the post and it looked like disk-copy tools. I don't have a lot
of use for those, unfortunately. :)

Thanks for thinking of me though.

Jim, what no one else wants,… I'll take "on spec". Let me know the
shipping.

Just so I'm clear, you want damaged disks that are all moldy and useless
(except for archival of the SW on them)?

I'd suspect that these disks *could* damage your drive. Water contains
minerals, most notably calcium. The calcium gets deposited on the surface of
the disk when the water evaporates. Calcium forms sharp crystals. So under a
microscope the surface of the damaged disk probably resembles sandpaper :).

Just something to think about before inserting the disk into a valuable
diskdrive.

The biscuit would need to be washed before inserting in a drive,

By "valuable" you mean US$10~$15, which is the going rate for a 1541,
right?

Considering they're not manufactured anymore, that's valuable. ;)

Part of cleaning them should involve a vinegar wash. Removes calcium,
doesn't hurt iron oxide.
