Aloha,

Can a LCD screen of 30" be hooked to a C64 ? Will the screen be clear, or
is there a Khz limit ?

We have 2 of these at work, guessed I should try.

If the screen has composite or S-video (chroma/luma) input, it can,
otherwise not.

Michael

It depends on the screen - some don't understand the C64's non-inter-
laced signal. It looks gorgeous on my 80" projector screen though.

Agreed, I've used both my 64 and Vic-20(!) on my projector, i've got it set
to about 87" diagonal, and it's fantastic. I LOVE typing with the vic (3"
characters, no need for glasses! ;) )

Back in my apartment days, I once projected my C64 screen onto the side of
the apartment building next door. It was about 4 stories high. ;-)

If the characters don't have enough height, use register 36867 to
go into 8x16 mode (you need to write or load a routine to generate
an appropriate character set though).

On a slightly smaller note...

The official Sony PSone LCD makes for a nice little and cheap (if bought
from ebay) monitor. I have tested it on both a Plus /4 and Vic 20, and it
works a treat with the image being sharp, and the sound coming through the
inbuilt PSone screen speakers. Ok so it is no where near 30" (or 80")
standards, but as I don't have too much space and a small budget this works
fine.

Really? How cheap have you seen those? Also do they just use standard
composite or do they have S-video?

I had actually thought about buying one of those to use for my C64 but
figured it was too expensive.

I got mine from a seller on ebay for £29, but it may pay to shop around. In
addition to having a PSone AV connector, it has a audio/video (composite) in
connector on the back in the form of a 4 pole 3.5mm jack. The computer can
be connected to the screen without the need of an actual PSone, as it comes
with its own power supply. You can buy the jacks from any electronic parts
supplier for a few pence. Currently, I am away from home , and I cant
remember the exact pinout, but I will post it here when I am able.
