The Duo won't read CD-R media and I've been in the same boat as you. There
is something that you can do with your scratched CDs that might work, it has
for me in the past. Now this might sound crazy but hear me out. Get a tube
of toothpaste. It must be the gel kind, not the paste. I'm not sure if
whitening types have any effect but I use something like plain old Colgate
gel. Then take a little gel and put it on the disc. Then rub it in circles
where the scratches are. Wash the disc off with cool water and let it air
dry. This has solved many scratched CD problems on every system I own
including Duo, PSX, Dreamcast, etc. I don't know what it is that makes it
work but somehow the gel fills in the little scratches or something making
the laser reflect properly. I've never used a repair kit so I can't give
any information about that...

Hi,
CDR Back-ups do work on Duo's.
There are tons of people that use them.
I've got a back up of my copy of Dracula X which works with no problems in
either my duo or Super CD unit. I think you've got to make sure that you use
80min disks rather than the usual 75min disks. I remember someone saying
that a while back anyway.

Cheers

Mine reads CDR's just fine. That's how I play Dracula X. I am using 80 min
discs as well. I've also found that I have more success with CDR's that are
the lighter green color. I find the darker CDR's tend to screw up more for
me on this system.

heh, I remember those, they were pretty damn stupid. I'm surprised
someone made a page off of it. I wonder how much this guy that made the
page really knows. He states in parts that the SegaCD didn't fail, I
sure don't remember the SegaCD making very much. Pretty funny page tho,
I forgot about those crappy ads.

The Turbo List: Our drivers carry less than $20 in cash (mainly because
they're always broke from buying TG/Duo/PCE games), but none the less,
it's just something that you should be aware of.

I was thinking the same thing when I read it. I think the Sega CD went down
just as fast as the DUO. Though the top award for a flop would be the 32x
attachment :-P.

I can't believe my Duo still works after all these years. Moreso, I
can't believe I've been a member of this list since 1994.

We've been playing Bomberman all day, and I feel nostalgic for my
all-time favorite Duo game, Dungeon Explorer 2. My efforts to locate a
copy have been fruitless. Does anyone have a copy for sale?

Thanks,
Rob

I haven't had any problems using CDR copies on my original "briefcase"
style CD-ROM unit. I've only used 74min discs from a spool of generic
silver CDs (no label) and Imation (silver with label) to gold
(forgot the brand) CDs and HP CDRs (back when HP released a 4x writer).

I've found that burning at more than 8x might cause trouble so I usually
burn at 4x (even if the disc and drive support more). I've burned a
few CDs at 24x that work, but most of the time they either don't boot
or the PCE-CD has trouble reading them. However, they work fine in
emulators.

I'm no expert at CD burning by any means, but I have experimented a lot.
For me, the best results are bright colored CDRs (gold, silver), low speed
write, and a good burner. I would assume most burners nowadays are fine.

I don't want to tread too far into "forbidden" territory, but the I got
into burning PCE CDs because of this Xak III site:

http://home.earthlink.net/~nlivaditis/xakiii/

This page was mentioned before on the list I believe.
