Reguarding prolog for the Mac, The company Expert Systems International
does not have prolog for the Mac. Dr Dobbs Journal printed that
ESI had prolog-1 for the Mac; this was wrong. The truth is ESI is planning
to have prolog-2 for the Mac available in about two months.
If anyone is interested in knowing when the actual release date is
send me mail, and as soon as I know I'll mail out the data. The reason
I know so much about ESI is my girl-friend works there.
Keep :-) !!

I am trying to output the Mac control key symbol - the cloverleaf - from
the keyboard. I cannot find the correct hidden character from the various
fonts. Does anyone know which key/font/point size to type?
Also has anyone had the following problem with 1.4 version of the DAM:
sometimes when I execute "save holding area," I get an error that says
that the disk is full (in fact there has been at least 100K left). Also,
the 1/2 written file cannot then be tossed into the trash as I get
the dialog box that says that it is either locked (not in the Info dialog)
or in use! Help!
Thanks in advance.

[Remember the days of Deep Shit Alerts?]
Believe it or not, some day I will be able to post some answers instead of
just questions...
In the explor.c DA, Jim uses register A4 in conjunction with global/static
data (I believe). Can somebody explain what is going on here, or point me
to the section of IM that gives clues?
Second, I would love to hear from people that have Hyperdrives; I am getting
ready to plunge in for one of these little buggers, so send your comments
today! I would like to have an Apple-Approved product just for compatibility
sake, but what the hell... Does MacUnderground *really* come through with
their guarantee, or is it just smoke? Is it really as fast as folks claim?
Is it really as wonderful as folks claim?
Also, I heard a rumor that we can expect a change in the "interface" to the
next system release -- this would tend to support the rom-based finder.

Having obtained the necessary language software to start doing some primitive
development work, I now need to educate myself on some of the intricacies
of the Macintosh. The obvious (and probably only) source is "Inside
Macintosh." I seem to remember some postings about "Inside Mac" several
months ago, but I wasn't much interested then. My question is...what does
the USENET community think of "Inside Mac?" Is it (as appears) the only
source of its type? What level of knowledge must one posess to understand
it?
I will muchly appreciate any and all comments.

Could someone please send me documentation on the use of
MenuEdit. I've been able to do some things with this DA
but it's been purely trial-and-error. In particular, I
would like to be able to install command-key options for
some menu selected items (such as quit).
Thanks.

Granted, it's only a rumor, but I've heard that C-ware (Mark Desmet) is working
on a C compiler for the Mac. They currently have excellent products for cp/m
and ms-dos at very reasonable prices.
Can anyone confirm this?

Try opening a MacTerminal document on your second disk (either from the
finder or by closing the current one and opening the new one). Terminal
then uses the other disk as the default and shouldn't have any problem.

mail and telephone bills I am withdrawing my request. Anyone else who
wants it can get it there. Thanks.

Posted to net.sources.mac is a Desk Accesory I wrote, called "Time".
It is in DAM format, hexed in Binhex 2.1.
The purpose was twofold.. 1) teach myself how to create DA's and
2) provide a very small and non CPU intensive clock to be used
with VersaTerm. Since "Time" only tickles SystemTask() every 60 seconds,
the effective speed of a terminal emulator is not reduced. "Time" takes
only about 1K in the heap. I fudged a little on the GoAway... hope it
doesn't bother anyone.
"Time" was created almost all in 'C' using Manx's Aztec C68k.
"Time" may be freely distrubuted, but not sold, as it is a Copyright 1985 by
Lonnie R. Abelbeck.
Please report any "bugs" and comments to:

Most of the mac<->modem pinouts I have seen on the net have neglected DTR.
Some modems require a high signal on pin 20 (DTR) in order to connect,
answer the phone, or do anything but sit there. On some this is an
option which can be switched off. In any case you must either turn the
option off or strap DTR high. Most modems supply a constant high on pin
9 and jumpering it to pin 20 should do the trick. Pin 6 (DSR) may also
be an alternate source for this signal.
* Strapping DTR high also implies that the modem always thinks the mac
is ready and waiting to communicate so it may answer your phone when you
least expect it. This can be very annoying to sweethearts, customers,
and bosses, since the modem usually answers on the first ring and you
don't. So turn the modem off when not actually in use or awaiting calls.
