But <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fee.org\/articles\/we-just-got-even-more-proof-inflation-is-on-the-rise\/\" class=\"keychainify-checked steem-keychain-checked\" data-toggle=\"popover\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">multiple alarming inflation metrics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> came out for April and May, and examples of rising prices are clear to see <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fee.org\/articles\/shrinkflation-the-latest-consequence-of-reckless-federal-spending-explained\/\" class=\"keychainify-checked steem-keychain-checked\" data-toggle=\"popover\" data-original-title=\"\" title=\"\" aria-describedby=\"popover47326\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from big-box retail stores<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/finance\/559591-housing-prices-rose-236-percent-annually-in-may-setting-new-record\" class=\"keychainify-checked steem-keychain-checked\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">real estate market<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, yet another metric has come in making the ongoing inflation even more difficult to deny. <em>CNBC <\/em><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/06\/25\/key-inflation-indicator-rises-3point4percent-in-may-from-a-year-earlier-as-expected.html?utm_term=Autofeed&amp;utm_medium=Social&amp;utm_content=Main&amp;utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1624624484\" class=\"keychainify-checked steem-keychain-checked\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reports<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the personal consumption expenditures price index, which the Federal Reserve uses to make policy, came in at an annualized 3.4 percent on Friday. This is the largest increase in the metric in nearly 30 years. When factoring in food and energy, the metric reports that consumer prices rose 3.9 percent from May 2020 to May 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In certain sectors, price <a href=\"https:\/\/fee.org\/articles\/how-inflation-drinks-your-milkshake\/\" class=\"keychainify-checked steem-keychain-checked\" data-toggle=\"popover\">inflation<\/a> is especially acute. The report says that the energy sector alone has experienced a 27.4 percent increase in prices over the last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why does this matter? Well, price inflation is a form of \u201cstealth taxation\u201d that erodes the real purchasing power and living standards of Americans.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<div id=\"om-fqmeg7lcejd7fy5oro5r-holder\">\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"om-lxkcubhhqwmdm0lkjkbp-holder\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAfter a year of lockdowns leading to job losses and pay cuts, many Americans aren\u2019t in a position to pay&#8230; higher prices,\u201d FEE economist Peter Jacobsen <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fee.org\/articles\/why-inflation-is-at-a-12-year-high\/\" class=\"keychainify-checked steem-keychain-checked\" data-toggle=\"popover\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wrote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cIt\u2019s easy for someone with a comfortable job or nest egg to scoff at these price increases, but working-class and poor Americans feel the difference.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For people living paycheck-to-paycheck, a 27 percent increase in their energy bill is a serious problem. And it\u2019s also important to understand that, at least in part, the current price inflation can be traced back to federal monetary policy. Simply put, the Federal Reserve printed trillions of new dollars to fund \u201cstimulus\u201d efforts, and prices naturally rose as a result.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe quantity of money has increased more than 32.9% since January 2020,\u201d Jacobsen <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fee.org\/articles\/why-inflation-is-at-a-12-year-high\/\" class=\"keychainify-checked steem-keychain-checked\" data-toggle=\"popover\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">explained<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThat means nearly one-quarter of the money in circulation has been created since then. If more dollars chase the exact same goods, prices will rise.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The laws of economics don\u2019t care about the politics of who is in charge of the federal government at the moment.
