This Cold War themed game (Rush’n Attack = Russian Attack, get it? haha…) involved rescuing prisoners from a POW camp.

There have been quite a few home conversions over the years. In 1986, ports were created for the Commodore 64, Atari 8-bit and other 8-bit home computers. In 1987 a Nintendo (NES) version was released. In 1989 DOS and Commodore Plus/4 versions were released.

There have also been several later remakes. A version appears on the Game Boy Advance compilation, Konami Collector’s Series: Arcade Advance (I have this one!) and on another compilation for the Nintendo DS called Konami Classics Series: Arcade Hits. The original arcade version was released on Xbox Live Arcade for the Xbox 360. Both the original was available and a remake with improved graphics and sound. An official sequel was also released in 2011 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 titled Rush’n Attack: Ex-Patriot.

Rush’n Attack generally received good reviews and is overall a very good side scrolling shooter/platform game. It even appeared on IGN’s top 100 NES games (at 99). I am more familiar with the Commodore 64 version which was quite good but I always thought it was also quite difficult and I never really made it very far.

Green Beret / Rush’n Attack Publisher: Konami (Arcade, DOS, FDS, NES, GBA, DS, 360), Imagine Software (CPC, 8-bit, C64, ZX), The Hit Squad (BBC Micro, Plus/4), France Image Logiciels (MO, TO) Developer: Konami (Arcade, FDS, NES, GBA, Mobile), Imagine Software (CPC, C64, Plus/4, BBC Micro, MSX, MO, TO, ZX), De Re Software (8-bit), Banana Development (DOS), Digital Eclipse (360), M2 (DS) Platform: Arcade, Amstrad CPC, Atari 8-bit, BBC Micro, Commodore Plus/4, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, MS-DOS, MSX, Famicom Disk System / Nintendo Entertainment System, Thomson MO, Thomson TO, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Mobile Year: 1985 (Arcade), 1986 (CPC, 8-bit, MSX, MO, TO, ZX, C64), 1987 (FDS, NES), 1989 (BBC Micro, Plus/4, DOS), 2002 (GBA), 2006 (JP Mobile), 2007 (DS, 360) http://darth-azrael.tumblr.com/post/159783486916/kazucrash-green-beret-rushn-attack Rush’n Attack, known as Greet Beret in Japan and Europe, was an arcade game released in 1985 by Konami.
