Nintendo controlled north of 90% of the video game market before Sega \u2014 and a\u00a0speedy blue cartoon hedgehog named Sonic \u2014 showed up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSonic the Hedgehog\u201d \u2014 the original Sega Genesis game, not the character \u2014 is beloved among game fans of a certain age. He was the hard-edged Sega equivalent of Nintendo\u2019s goofy, floppy-hatted Super Mario. Moreover, his debut game was really, really good. (It didn\u2019t hurt that Sega included the game for free with new Genesis consoles, making it the first-ever successful free-to-play game.)<\/p>\n<p>For years, fans have wanted a return to the original, 16-bit-era version of \u201cSonic the Hedgehog\u201d that they grew up with. And now, those fans are taking over the creation of exactly such a project.<\/p>\n<p>This is \u201cSonic Mania\u201d:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=megalextori0e-20&amp;keywords=Sonic Mania&amp;index=aps&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;linkId=8034c09c5d0055b98d36aa10504d2163\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.megalextoria.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/tumblr_inline_odhypui19s1tyobnw_500.png\" width=\"500\" height=\"283\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sega\u2019s supporting the project, which is a re-boot of the original game plus a mess of new levels. You can play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles \u2014 something you could only otherwise do in \u201cSonic the Hedgehog 3.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The game takes the original game, adds in new levels, at least one new move for Sonic (some type of spin-dash\u2026thing), and enables you to play as the series\u2019 most iconic stars.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly speaking, it looks fantastic. Take a look at the game\u2019s first trailer below \u2014 the game otherwise launches in 2017 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. There\u2019s even this crazy-fresh collector\u2019s edition that comes with a Sonic the Hedgehog statue with a Sega Genesis base.
