Sure, I\u2019ve been critical of Donald Trump and the appalling things that regularly fall out of his mouth. (Check here<\/a>, here<\/a> and here<\/a>.)\u00a0\u00a0I have a hard time of envisioning government by temper tantrum and wholesale character assassination.<\/p>\n

But I\u2019ve also written about Hillary Clinton. About the curious timing of hubby Bill\u2019sprivate\u00a0meeting at Sky Harbor<\/a> with Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who oversees the agency that was, at the time, investigating Clinton\u2019s wife.<\/p>\n

About the FBI\u2019s announcement a few days later<\/a> that Hillary Clinton was \u201cextremely careless\u201d in her handling of state secrets on her private email server. This, despite Clinton\u2019s repeated public assurances that no sensitive material was ever stored on her private email server.<\/p>\n

So naturally, I must be a Trump supporter.<\/p>\n

A lot of us don’t want either<\/h2>\n

Actually I\u2019m one of those Americans who just can\u2019t stand of think of either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump as our next president.<\/p>\n

Turns out there are a lot of us.<\/p>\n

According to the latest CNN poll, 55 percent of American voters have an unfavorable view of Clinton and 70 percent don\u2019t like Trump.<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t buy Trump\u2019s fear and anger and we don\u2019t trust Clinton\u2019s hope and change \u2013 or rather, a lack of change from what we\u2019ve seen over the last eight years.<\/p>\n

Oh, for an alternative.<\/p>\n

Actually, there are two. We just don\u2019t see or hear much about them.<\/p>\n

You have an alternative<\/h2>\n

Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson is a Republican-turned-Libertarian who might appeal to Republicans who support free trade, entitlement reform and tax cuts. Democrats might like his support for legalizing marijuana and Obama\u2019s deportation reprieve for immigrants who were brought here illegally as children.<\/p>\n

Jill Stein is the Green Party candidate who might appeal to Democrats who support single-payer healthcare, a $15-an-hour minimum wage and free child care and college.<\/p>\n

Both ran for president in 2012. Neither got even 1 percent support.<\/p>\n

Both are running again \u2013 not that you\u2019d know it.<\/p>\n

Next month, the presidential debates will begin and neither will likely be on the stage. The Commission on Presidential Debates has decreed that a candidate must hit an average of 15 percent support in five national polls.<\/p>\n

Johnson wavers between 7 and 13 percent, depending upon the poll.<\/p>\n

But how do you get support if nobody knows who you are?<\/p>\n

We need to see him debate<\/h2>\n

How can voters, unhappy with a choice between Trump and Clinton,\u00a0realize there’s\u00a0a third option if they turn on CNN (or FOX)\u00a0and it\u2019s all about Donald\u2019s mouth and Hillary\u2019s email?<\/p>\n

The commission should reconsider its 15 percent rule and offer Johnson a place at the podium. As the leading third-party candidate, surely he deserves the chance to make is case to voters.<\/p>\n

Surely, voters deserve a chance to hear it.<\/p>\n
