Following Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina\u2019s commanding performances at the first two Republican debates, her poll numbers and name recognition have skyrocketed.<\/p>\n

The reason for this is that Fiorina is, pardon my French, a badass.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s a high-ranking businesswoman who clearly knows how to hold her own in boys club contexts.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s well-versed in the policy positions she espouses\u2014she\u2019s no Sarah Palin who puts optics over substance.<\/p>\n

She has neatly avoided pandering while still using her unique position as a woman in the GOP race to her advantage.<\/p>\n

And she\u2019s ably met the challenge\u2014amplified by the presence of the perpetually boorish and misogynist Donald Trump\u2014of confronting and condemning sexism in campaign politics.<\/p>\n

When Trump infamously critiqued Fox News\u2019 Megyn Kelly by suggesting she only posed hard questions at the first Republican debate because she was on her period, Fiorina not only claimed the moral high ground but turned the conversation on its head.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I started this campaign, I was asked on a national television show whether a woman\u2019s hormones prevented her from serving in the Oval Office,\u201d she said. \u201cMy response was, can we think of a single instance in which a man\u2019s hormones might have clouded his judgment?\u201d<\/p>\n

Fiorina\u2019s cool and concise response to Trump\u2019s transparent attack on her looks was equally on-point.<\/p>\n

So I can understand why Fiorina\u2019s campaign is refreshing to Millennial women eager to see the White House\u2019s glass ceiling broken\u2014and who, prior to Fiorina\u2019s rise, only had Palin and Hillary Clinton as options for that goal (there was Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, too, I suppose, but her brief campaign is on no one\u2019s radar anymore).<\/p>\n

But here\u2019s the thing: When was the last time you heard someone say, \u201cThis male candidate\u2019s policies are totally different from mine, but he\u2019s just so well-spoken and composed that I like him anyway\u201d? Jeb Bush, for instance, often comes off as a smart and likeable guy, but I don\u2019t see anyone cutting him similar slack.<\/p>\n

Because whatever one think\u2019s of Fiorina\u2019s demeanor and wit, many of her policies are awful. You could put the bulk of what she says in John McCain\u2019s or Mitt Romney\u2019s mouth and not notice any difference.<\/p>\n
