The X-Files is one of if not my favorite TV series of all time. I am going to attempt to review every episode. I started this project once before but didn’t make it very far. It might take me a few years but I plan to get through it all this time. I am in the latter stages of a re-watch right now so I will probably go ahead and start reviewing the episodes I am watching now and start back with season 1, episode 1 at a later date.<\/p>\n
In addition to giving you my thoughts on each of the episodes I will also rate them on a 5-star scale. I consider the series a 5-star series so this will be a system that rates the episodes in terms of the other episodes more than anything else. \u00a0So, for example, A 2-star episode will still probably be a decent watch and there probably won’t be a lot of 1-star episodes.<\/p>\n

Though I\u00a0won’t necessarily\u00a0give away the ending of an episode, I am not endeavoring to avoid spoilers. There will be some including general summaries of the episodes so if you don’t want them, stop reading now.<\/p>\n
Alien conspiracy story-line vs. “Monster of the Week” episodes<\/p>\n
I consider both of these important to the series and feel the X-Files just wouldn’t be the X-Files without both. The alien conspiracy story-line is obviously important because it essentially provides Mulder’s back-story and explains why and how he came to investigate the X-Files in the first place. It is a story-line that runs throughout the series. Having a long-running story-line makes the series better and was also pretty rare at the time (Babylon 5, another of my favorite series was essentially one long story-line also and is a huge part of why that show was great). On the other hand, the X-Files represents unsolved cases that seem to defy logical explanations. It would be silly if the only types of cases were related to aliens. Also, having the so-called “monster of the week” episodes provides the show a much larger variety of stories, more opportunities for character development, as well as opportunities for lighter episodes and even a little bit of comedic relief from time to time. From my point of view\u00a0one type of episode isn’t automatically better than the other and either type can be a 1-star or 5-star episode.<\/p>\n
