    GameFan, November 1994

The 1990s was a great time for video game magazines. There were tons to choose from and a few truly great ones. While not a magazine I read much of, GameFan was a fairly popular one that lasted from 1992 until 2000. The November 1994 issue includes:

    • Editorial Zone
    • Most Wanted
    • Hocus Pocus
    • Viewpoint
    • The Adventures of Monitaur
    • Sega Sector
    • Planet SNES
    • Megawards ’94
    • GameFan 32
    • Savage Amusement
    • Hands On
    • GameFan Sports
    • Japan Now
    • E. Storm Import Updates

  • Sega Visions (May 1995)

    Sega Visions, May 1995.

Sega Visions was Sega’s answer to Nintendo Power, an official magazine from Sega. The May 1995 issue includes:

    Cover Story

    • The Sega Saturn Arrives – Tons of coverage for the then brand new Sega Saturn. In addition to the console itself, all of the earliest games were covered including Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Fighter, NHL All-Star Hockey, Clockwork Knight, Daytona USA, Virtual Hydlide, Worldwide Soccer, Grandslam Baseball, Deadlus, Pebble Beach Golf Links, Van Battle, Virtua Cop, Astal, Gotha, Yumeni Mansion II, Bug!, Myst, V.R. Virtua Racing, Dark Legends, Defcon 0, and more.

    Features

    • Sega Online – A guide to the Sega resources available on Compuserve and the World Wide Web…quite a new concept in 1995.
    • Primal Rage – Coverage of the upcoming Genesis, Game Gear, 32X and Saturn versions of Primal Rage.
    • Knuckles’ Chaotix – A follow-up to Sonic & Knuckles, Knuckles makes his debut on the 32X in Knuckles’ Chaotix.

    Reviews

    • Genesis 32X
      • Shadow Squadron – A 3D polygon space combat shooter. This was one of the few games I really wanted for the 32X…not that I had one at the time.
      • Zaxxon’s Motherbase 2000 – A Zaxxon update with the same perspective as the original. Another 32X game I wouldn’t have minded having at the time.
      • Brutal – An updated and enhanced version of the parody fighting game that was originally released on the Genesis.
    • Sega CD
      • Road Rash – An update to the original Road Rash for the Genesis that includes full motion video, a stereo soundtrack, and other enhancements.
      • Dungeon Explorer – A 1-4 player dungeon crawl in which you must traverse Darkling Tower to rescue the Goddess of Ambition.
      • Popful Mail – An action RPG by Working Designs. This was the kind of game that early CD based systems excelled at in my opinion.
    • Genesis
      • Beyond Oasis – An action RPG for the regular old Genesis. This one probably would have been a good candidate for a CD-based game too.
