  • 50 Cent Comics – The Spectacular Spider-Man #124

Next up from my 50 cent comic book score at MegaCon 2019 is The Spectacular Spider-Man #124. This issue is from March 1987 and features the classic Spider-Man villain, Dr. Octopus.

Doctor Octopus is steeling various parts and other material (including radioactive isotopes) in order to build a nuclear reactor. The purpose is to enhance his abilities which were given to him via an accident of a radioactive nature. If only cancer were a superpower…

By the end of the issue, Spider-Man had foiled his plans but nearly caused a nuclear meltdown in the process. Doctor Octopus is trapped under a collapsing roof and presumed dead. Of course, we all know he’s not.

This ad brings back memories. In 1987, I was also racing BMX. Though I rode a Free Agent, not a Murray. And of course who could forget the cavity sucking Jolly Rancher’s in their original stick form?

  • 50 Cent Comics – New Mutants #39 (2012)

Next up from my 50-cent comics haul from MegaCon earlier this year is New Mutants #39 (volume 3 from circa 2011-2012). The original run of the New Mutants was one of my favorite comics back in the day. So far, I’ve been enjoying the scattered issues of volume 3 that I have been reading lately too.

In this issue, members of the team are visiting the island Paradise, the island where Doug Ramsey, a.k.a. Cypher, died. This visit is because of some dream he had. They run across various creatures created by Ani-mator and apparently Ani-mator is trying to reconstitute himself via some sort of virus. Unfortunately, the New Mutants contract this virus.

By the end, everyone is pretty sick and Warlock combines with Cypher in an effort to save him. Will this be enough? Will they find a cure? Can they defeat Ani-mator? I’m not sure, I don’t think I have the next issue :).

  • 50 Cent Comics – Sex #3

Next up in my 50 cent comic book haul from MegaCon 2019 is Sex #3 by Image Comics. The name of this one is certainly suggestive anyway. However, this seems to be one of those comics you had to start at the beginning to know WTF is going on.

I mean there were a couple of random sex scenes. There were a couple of random violent scenes too for that matter so it could have been called ‘Sex and Violence’ I suppose. That one was probably taken.

But as far as a story? No idea. It has something to do with a random and apparently wealthy business guy whining about his life though…
