Bart’s Nightmare was one of a number of Simpson’s related games released during the 8 and 16-bit eras. It was released for both the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis though this particular ad is for the Genesis version. The Genesis version was released the following year in 1993 so this is probably just a later ad.

Bart’s Nightmare plays like a platformer with some mini games thrown in. The main part of the game consists of Bart trying to retrieve pages of his homework blowing around town while avoiding various enemies and obstacles. Once a page is obtained, Bart shrinks down and enters one of several minigames (you get to choose one of two randomly selected from a total of 5). You have to complete the mini game successfully to obtain the page of homework. The goal is to ultimately complete all of the minigames.

This game received mixed reviews. The original Super Nintendo version generally got positive reviews but the later Sega Genesis version did not do as well. This isn’t really one of those must play games but if you are a Simpson’s fan it may be worthwhile. Just get the Super Nintendo version instead of the Genesis version for better graphics and possibly other advantages.
