I found the answer to the problem I was having with the Atari
not correctly writing on a disk for IBM to read. I thought the net might
 be interested in the answer.
I was virus infected! The virus was one of those boot-sector
executable things. It just installs itself in the operating system so that
any time the media-change call is made the virus makes sure that the disk
is infected. Nothing else will happen until some unknown trigger comes
along in a new infection and then the old virus will trigger the new one
(or vice versa). This virus just happened to do something to the disk
that caused the IBM to be unable to find any valid files but the Atari
still thought that everything was OK. All of the common virus dectector/
killer programs that I found found this thing and then could remove it.
Damn near every disk I had had been infected by the time I found out what
 was going on.
Every thing works just like it should, now.

                 Cheers,
                   Terry
