There was a query a little while back about why there is no encoded
colour on 500 and 2000's like there was on the 1000.
The main advantage is that, given dual-standard special chips (Agnus?)
you can use the identical hardware for PAL and NTSC, since the
standard-dependant hardware (the encoder) is not there!
The PAL 1000 was physically different to the NTSC, apart from the
different chip mask - there is a different oscillator for the colour to
start with.  Since most of us use RGB monitors, only those who NEED
encoders need buy them.
