I'd like to write a facility that loads a set of files matching a
pattern when I initially bring up eamcs in the morning (namely the
mail messages that I wasn't able to complete the day before)

The specific problem is to expand a file name with a *-wild card in
it.  I see that I could do it with call-process, but is there an
easier way?
