As written up in the April 1988 edition of PC Tech Journal (p. 161), the
new max-file-handle-count function (Int 21/AH=67h) will not work correctly
under PC-DOS 3.3 unless you use an ODD number of handles, or unless you
restore the number to 20. Silly bug, easy work-around! I love it.
