Message-ID: <5378@merlin.usc.edu> Date: 28 Sep 89 03:56:19 GMT Sender: news@merlin.usc.edu Reply-To: malczews@girtab.usc.edu (Frank Malczewski) Organization: University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA Lines: 25 Just got my upgrade from GOfer 1.1.8 ("1.0") to 2.0 yesterday, and I tried to do a search that I had tried earlier this weekend. It basically involves searching through 10 MB of TEXT files for a set of words nearby. Anyway, it was notably slow, and after it was done, I decided to try it against 1.0. It took about 16 minutes for 1.0; I stopped the 2.0 run after about 30 minutes (and it was only 2/3 to 3/4 done). All settings during both runs that were similar between the two versions were matched, setting for setting. I could swear that I read that GOfer 2.0 was to be 50% faster than 1.0. Has anyone noticed this also? If this is typical, I would suggest holding off on any upgrading... (I just made it under the wire for a free upgrade, so am not overly disappointed, but people actually paying for the upgrade might get a bit upset). Anybody on this one? -- -- Frank Malczewski (malczews@girtab.usc.edu)
