 Depending on what's meant by "handy", one doesn't necessarily have to
run an Emacs-based newsreading tool to achieve this; the combination
of IPC and some form of windowing let you do this fairly easily (for
example, I'm writing this reply using GNU Emacs and MH, spawned off
from an rn in another X11 window).
