Several recent netnotes have asked for pointers to information on how to
write channel programs for IBM mainframes.

I can't point anyone to a textbook on the subject, but I would strongly
recommend that people interested in the subject attend the related
sessions at SHARE (the IBM mainframe user group). The primary force
behind these tutorials is Dr. Robert Rannie of Northern Illinois University;
he routinely teaches channel programming to his Computer Science students
there.

Robert gave the sessions at each of the two recent major meetings (Los
Angeles and Orlando); I don't know if he intends to do so again at the
next one in Anaheim next winter. If your installation is a SHARE member
you might see if your installation representative to SHARE has a copy of
the handout.

I think that NIU is on BITNET; you might try to reach him there through
the postmaster.
