We will soon be ordering some DECstation 2100's and 3100's, and we
already have an Apple LaserWriter printer and a few Telebit
Trailblazer modems that we would like to hook up to the DECstations.
I am somewhat familiar with the Transcript software for SunOS, and I
have gotten HDB UUCP working with the Trailblazers on System V/386.
However, I have never worked with BSD UUCP. Nor have I ever added a
printer to an Ultrix machine.
Can I hook the printer and modem directly into the serial ports on
the DECstation? The Ultrix printer filter /usr/lib/lpdfilters/ln03rof
converts ASCII files to Postscript, which makes me think I won't need
any additional software to hook up the DECstation and LaserWriter if
all I want to do is print text files. Am I right? What about
printing troff files? Does Adobe sell Transcript for Ultrix? Can I
just tell Ultrix the printer is a LN03?
If anybody out there has the abover setup working, could you please
mail me your /etc/printcap file and your UUCP configuration files?
I'd RTFM if I could, but I don't have any manuals yet :-)
