I need to purchase one or two PostScript reference documents,
since I have to do some work on including PostScript figures
in troff documents.

I would like some advice, since these book(s) will probably
have to last my lifetime. What is the best overall book
about PostScript for the general (and inexperienced) user?
Is there anything better than the two books published by
Adobe (the red and blue books)?

I need something that is easy to use and easy to understand,
and covers standard PostScript thoroughly (I'm not interested
in not-quite-compatible compatibles).

Please reply by email. I'll be happy to compile and post
the responses I get.
