If I remember correctly, the last HP-UX update (from 3.0 to 3.1)
seemed to have its own ideas about this and changed the mode of our
spool directory to 777.  And that's not all -- the same treatment was
given a number of other directories and files, and the /usr/local/man
tree was summarily deleted.

It's rather ridiculous if customers' filesystems are messed around
with in such a callous manner.
