Dave,

I think you answered your own dilemma: all instances you cited, except
for RFCs, are in the print (paper) domain.  Publishing in the paper
domain is not what RFCs are all about - just expand the name.

Note that this discussion is not about electronic publishing; it is
about RFCs - to be able to cite and debate them in an electronic media
- not about printing them.  The RFCs should never have been made
available in printed form - they should have been put on disk, tape,
or even CD-ROM, not on paper for distribution outside the Internet
access world.  We have enough trouble with vendor implementations of
network software without giving them yet another excuse - not being
able to read them because they can't print them.
