For reasons which aren't real important here, I want to redirect ALL output
(after /etc/rc is complete) which would normally go to the console, into a
file. Ideally what I'd like is something which would do that and then when
a shutdown has been performed it would end (a daemon of some sort??) and
console output would once again go to the console.

Does anyone have suggestions, or possibly know of existing code which does
this?

Any help is appreciated.
