You really don't need the clipboard device to do that. I achieve essentially the same result with Ed by marking a block, writing it to RAM:block, shifting to the other window, and inserting file RAM:block. And Ed is about as stripped-down an editor as I would want to use. That's one reason I use it, in fact.
