I'm having serious problems trying to format a Priam V185 on my Hyundai
compatible. I replaced the BIOS to allow me to define 1166 cylinders and 26
sectors for my Wester Digital 16 RLL controller. A person advised me that
Compaq DOS 3.31 would format large partitions with 512 size clusters, so I
used that. FDisk however, would not go beyond 1023 cylinders even though the
CMOS setting was set to that. When I went ahead and formatted it for 1023, it
formatted to 95 megs, but said there were only 40 megs free when I did a
directory. So I tried software like Speed Stor and Disk Manager. Speed Stor
partitioned the whole drive, but would screw up later when it came to writing
to the drive. Disk Manager would partition to 1023, but it worked great (with
8K cluster sizes however!). I've formatted a Priam on my friend's Acer with
the same BIOS with Compaq DOS to 1166 and FDisk worked without a hitch!
However, he wasn't using the WD 16RLL. Does anyone have ANY ideas? I'm just
about to the end of my rope with this thing. Its ridiculous what I have had
to go through in order to try and get the full capacity of my hard drive
working for me.

In summary:
A. Priam V185 with 1166 cylinders and 7 heads
B. Western Digital RLL 16 controller
C. Award BIOS that allows definition of the hard drive (type 255)
D. Hyundai 10 mhz AT

Please send me any suggestions or help via mail as I do not read this
conference often.
