Thanks to Sean Fagan  for the answer:
	2000 symbols

It would be nice if ranlib took an error exit instead of silently
trashing my library, or nicer yet if it took the BSD strategy of
realloc'ing the table as necessary, but I'll settle for at least
knowing the limits and splitting my library up.
