Would anyone be interested in a newsgroup for the dissemination of
information concerning non-profit organizations, charities, and other
worthy causes?

Addresses of organizations, progress reports, appeals for donations
and volunteers, meeting announcements, etc. would be submitted by
interested parties.

Environmental, human rights, animal rights, religious, political,
humanitiarian, etc. articles would all be allowed. Of course, such a
group would need to be moderated. As much as I'd like to do it
myself, I'm not in a position at this time to moderate a group. If
you are, and you think you have what it takes, let me know.

The inevitable bugaboo of what to call such a group and where to
put it will have to be dealt with also. My personal favorite is
    news.announce.nonprofit
I realize "news" is supposed to be for netnews-related topics, but it
fits right in with news.announce.conferences. Other possibilities
include:
    soc.org.nonprofit
    soc.org.charity
    news.announce.charities
    soc.charities
    misc.charities
No doubt, others will be suggested.

We've all gotten something from USENET; technical information,
hobbyist information, social contacts, jobs, etc. Here is a chance to
use USENET for the benefit of others.

[Aside to news.groups readers: I'm not recommending we try this as a
trial newsgroup because it really does need to be moderated. (That's
something I hadn't thought of before.) We need someone who can not
only filter the flames, but someone who'll keep a file of names,
organizations, and addresses on-hand for answering queries.]
