Just to add my 5c worth to this interesting topic.
I run a Xenix system at home with a Priam V185
70 MB hard disk which for thos not in the know has
1166 cylinders. My Xenix is an 80286 version 2.2.1
and when starting the system up from scratch I told
xenix that I had a hard disk with 1166 cylinders.
Xenix proceeded to format the total 1166 cylinders
without a worry in the world.

I am using the standard WD 1006V-MM2 controller and
	the setup is working fine
