Lines: 15 Recently, someone posted an article describing a bug in sendmail at SR9.7, whereby mail could be sent off-site, but not to any local user. I can't remember who it was, and the article has expired at this site, so I'm posting a fix. At least one of the SR9.x Domain/IX installation scripts fails to properly set owners and setuid bits on several key programs, such as su, login, and... /bin/mail. Thus, mail can't write to /usr/spool/mail. Naturally, sendmail tries to return error mail, invoking the local mailer (guess who) to deliver it... Resetting the owner (root) and setuid bit fixes this. _________________________________________________________________ chris ross <0> uunet!codex!watcher or watcher@athena.mit.edu
