If Apple got together with Western Design, I'm quite SURE that they could get 
12mhz 816 chips real quick. The problem (from what I see) is that Apple isn't
even willing to look into getting high speed chips.

 Their attitude seems to be "Well, if we run into a ton of 100Mhz chips on
street, we'll think about a faster CPU".  I doubt that WD has a stockpile of
12Mhz chips, but with Apple's true support, it COULD have one.

I think it was Mensch that said if Apple would work with him, he could go to a
generic chip manufacture company and get the chips made. IF, IF, IF..
