What I am interested in is being able to search a predefined list (one associated with each possible widget set) of public *.h files. Since these files should be the only ones that have information about application set-able attributes (height, width, font, etc...). These files should also contain the default values for the attributes since the appl. prog. does not have to specify all values. Since all widgets have to follow the X Intrinsics, can you see any situation where these ideas will break down? This is assuming that the intrinsics are followed. Basically I want to be able to determine all the application set-able fields and default values for them at run time rather than maintain a data base of widgets in a widget set, attributes per widget, range of values per attribute, and default values. Thanks for any info/help. Angus
