Why do you think this is going to happen?  Sorry to rain on your paranoia,
but the machines are extremely similar from a software point of view.  The
biggest difference is the amount of memory available--the ROM 03 machines
come with 1152K on the motherboard.  If you have a ROM 01 machine with
only 512K or 768K, you may have to buy more memory.

I don't think software developers are going to go out of their way to make
their products incompatible with the existing machines. :-)
