How about a SVR4 type compromise? Name the patches by concatenating *both* 
the date and patch number?  I do agree that the patchdate info is v. important.

Can be a pain if one's access to archive sites is via tortuous routes.
It *is* useful to be able to judge the completeness of the available kit
from the archive's table of contents.

While I'm here, does anyone in the UK have the 7/July patch? It didn't
seem to get here...
