Regarding recent questions about setting up lpd for an apollo network,
we cannot get it to work as described in the administration manual.

See my follow up to the first lpd question: 1)Had to correct file permissions
according to sysadmin book 2)Have to run copy on each node with own queue.
However, we print to a remote Sun printer.

	   We are running SR10.1 ( and SR10.0P on a DN10000 ) -

prmgr, prsvr and lpd run on the printing node, the spool queues are
	   also on the printing node.
If the other nodes on the ring have a spool directory with a file
'servername' specifying the printing node any print requests are
queued but the warning 'no daemons present' is returned. The only
way to cause printing to start is to restart (lpc) the required
	   printer on the printing node.

I seem to remember reading something in the release notes for SR10.1 that
indicated a need to restart after each print request. It was a known
bug and I think they gave a kludgy work around.

We do actually have lpd working by running lpd on every node, but
with the printcap file giving the full pathname of the spool
directory on the printing node (the only /usr/spool/lpd directory
	   in the network).

NB The DN10000 doesn't even work using the second method.

One of our 2 nodes is a DN10000 and I got it to work, but then it is
running SR10.1.p

Is this a problem with lpd, NCS or something else?

On a completely different subject - I have X Windows Version
2, Revision 3 up and running on our network. When will
apollo (UK or US) release their official version (with
X Windows and DM support) and the MOTIF interface?

Another person in our group managed to get a Beta release of Domain/X11,
Shared X, from Apollo. I am not sure what restrictions were placed on it.
He also seems to think it will be a released product in a couple months,
but this is all speculation. Apollo/HP - Any comments?
