I don't know of a PD one, but two product releases of X11R2 have already
shipped, and X11R3 will ship with HP-UX 7.0 (I believe others have
already commented on its availability).

Would you want to hack your own version, based on the R3 tape?  I
haven't looked at the R3 source, but you just need to know the primary
difference between the high-res Topcat (the source for which is what
comes on the R3 tape).  Basically, the medium res Topcat has a
framebuffer that is 1024 pixels wide and 512 tall (400 of which are
visible).  However, the aspect ratio is 2:1, so you need to treat
adjacent pixels as one virtual pixel.  This gets you a framebuffer of
512 pixels wide.
