The uucico that comes with Pyramid OSx4.4 and latter allows the protocol
to be specified with the addition of a new extension to the Caller field
in the L.sys file  that makes it look something like this:

    host Any TCP,f telnet host.daitc.mil "" \d\r ....

This will force in this case the 'f' protocol to be negotiated with the
remote host (if it supports it of course).
