Maximum length for 802.3 AUI (transceiver) cables is 50 meters. The type
of cable required to achieve the full 50 meter extent is fairly stiff and
bulky. Therefore, a number of vendors provide thinner cables which
do not support the full length. The thinner cables that I am aware of
support 15 meters, but this would vary depending on the characteristics
of the cable such as wire guage.

There is no minimum length. You could directly attach the AUI connector
of the DTE to the AUI connector of the MAU if the mechanics of the
situation allow it.
