I have been trying for some time now to copy a user's (UNIX) home directory
to tape in VMS readable format, with no luck. It took a while to decipher
the man pages for vmsprep and ansitape; I'm convinced my syntax is correct,
and the dump appears to start normally, but then aborts, taking the tape
drive off line. If someone who has experienced similar problems, or knows of
some other utility for UNIX -> VMS tape transfer, could give me a hint, I
would be most grateful.

Tuberculosis. It's what they used to call consumption.
