The problem is, everybody complains, but nobody ever wants to do anything!
This year, no one was even willing to run the contest, so it's kinda being
done by committee.  I have my doubts as to whether it will happen at all.
Last year's contest was a disaster, largely because everyone griped but
no one was willing to put together the contest disks (a video was never
planned) or call Go-Amigo to get them to send the last two prize donations.
Instead, they pushed all the work on one guy who worked six days a week.
No wonder things don't get done.

About your friend, being a "winner" doesn't mean anything by itself.  There
were more winning categories than donated prizes, so unless he was one of
the top winners, he just won an honorable mention.

Hope this year is better.  I've got my demo ready.  (I won third place last
overall (best custom demo) last year.  Hope to get my prize soon)
