North Carolina natives gave me this way to deal with "Chiggers";
 
A very simple way to kill chiggers is to put a drop of nail polish
on the bite and let it dry. Let the dried polish fall off naturally.
I've also seen in grocery stores a product called "chigger-rid" (I think).
It smells about the same as nail polish and does'nt work any better. It
comes in a small bottle (1/4 ounce or so) and lasts a lifetime. You can
tell if its a chigger bite if it stings smartly when you put the "medicine" on.
(other bites tend not to sting as much).
