File names can be most greivously complex. I've run into the following:

	/path/file
	volume:file.type
	//machine/path/file
	machine#qualifier*file.element/type
	volume:path\file.type
	machine::volume:[path]file.type
	volume:path/file
	:volume:path/file.type
	volume:[gid,uid]file.type
	machine:/path/file
	/volume/path/file
