I've been trying to get one of our Ultrix V3.0 machines to feed News
(V5.8a).

For test purposes Our Ultrix system manager runs by hand nntpxmit
which generates the following output:

$ nntpxmit -d -D sigma::sigma
200 sigma VMS NNTP server version 5.8 ready at Thu Aug 10 10:56:51 1989
 (posting ok).
>>> IHAVE <960001@teecs.UUCP>
335 send article to be transferred. End with .
>>> .
nntpxmit: sigma xfer: Broken pipe

The log of successfull transfers to other ultrix hosts looks like this -

>>> IHAVE <5491@ncrwic.Wichita.NCR.COM>
335 Ok
>>> .

Do I need to do anything besides creating a NNTP.COM file as
specified in the documentation to get this to work? I'm sure
there must be many sites with an Ultrix node as their feed -
could anyone shed some light on this dilemma?

Thanks,
