A pair of Oregon Juncos nested in a planter on our back deck--not
just once but twice! Now that they are through and the nest has
been empty for a while, I wonder if I can collect this dud egg
that they left behind in the nest. I've been checking the nest
carefully (i.e. not pawing it but peeking inside) once a week and
I'm convinced this is not the start of a new brood.

If I want to save the egg, should I just keep it in a protected box,
or is it more proper to try to extract the contents first without
damaging too much of the shell? Thanks.
