Has anyone had any experience with the GENBANK or EMBL databases on CD's?
With the possible demise of Bionet, we are looking into establishing
our own LAN with access to these databases through an 33 Mhz 80836 machine.
The simplest way to update the databases would be to obtain the complete
release on a CD. That way updating could be accomplished simply by changing a
disk. I believe Hitachi now has this service, but was wondering if their
updates contain only new sequences or if they contain the complete release?
What format are these sequences in? Do Genbank or EMBL plan to release their
databases on CD? Are there any other vendors who have CD versions of the
databases?
If anyone has any of this information, you can reply by e-mail to
lasky@net.bio.net.
Thanks
