If I recall, they use a highly modified Gulfstream jet.  To fly the
shuttle approach profile, they run a bunch of reverse thrust with
gear down and, if I think, spoilers hanging out also.  They've
also modified the flight control systems and the cockpit instruments
to approximate (fairly closely) those of the shuttle.
