I think that, when all is said and done, X11 was sure helped a lot in the popularity battle over NeWS because X11 was free, and NeWS wasn't. I think Sun learned its lesson on that, and that this is one of the reasons that the XView toolkit will be free. I'm surprised to see that OSF took a step backward in this regard.
