Path: utzoo!attcan!uunet!husc6!bloom-beacon!mit-eddie!mit-amt!mit-caf!cory From: cory@mit-caf.MIT.EDU (Cory Myers) Newsgroups: comp.protocols.appletalk Subject: I need an overview Keywords: Kinetics, KIP, CAP Message-ID: <1547@mit-caf.MIT.EDU> Date: 28 Nov 88 22:29:08 GMT Organization: Microsystems Technology Laboratories, MIT Lines: 23 We are currently in the process of configuring an office of twenty five MacPluses, Phonenet, and a laserwriter on Appletalk, and an ethernet with a Symbolics, several small 68020 development systems, and SUN workstation with a laserwriter into a more closely coupled network. We have a Kinetics FastPath (Mangager version 2.0 and EPROM rev 3.00), K-SPOOL, and NSCA Telnet. I have not yet completely integrated K-SPOOL because some people in the office still have very old version of LaserPrep. We are process of bringing everyone up to date. I hope to eventually put both laserwriters on Appletalk and spool all documents through the SUN. I have heard about KIP and CAP and wanted to get a top-level view of what these software package provide me with. I am also interested in any other public-domain packages of interest and would like to hear recommendations for configuring our network. Please respond by e-mail since this question seems too general for open discussion. I will summarize to the net. Thanks in advance, Cory Myers cory@dspvax.mit.edu uunet!mit-eddie!dspvax!cory
