If you don't choose to abort the restore, you can get some really ugly stuff even when using the simplest possible dump and restore to/from tape. To wit: . is not on tape Root directory is not on tape abort? [yn] n . missing from directory . .. missing from directory . corrupted directory: ./. expected next file 8193, got 4 cannot find directory inode 3 abort? [yn] n //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////:pathname too long abort? [yn] n Bus error (core dumped) This comes from the restore command: /etc/restore rf /dev/rmt/0m of a dump like: /etc/dump 0udf 1600 /dev/rmt/0m /dev/rdsk/c1d0s3 on HP-UX 2.1. (The filesystem in question has long filenames enabled).
