I'd like to thank Herman publicly for taking the time to gently correct my
misreading of his postings.  He's certainly asking for some unusual
programming constructs, and I'm more and more convinced that he's got a
good case.  I'm also more and more convinced that he's describing a brand
new HLL which would make mathematical programming a horse of a very
different color for folks like him.  (The usual comments about the inherent
unsuitability of digital computers for complicated mathematical computation
rear their ugly head but I'm going to ignore them for the nonce.)

Maybe Herman should get together with an experience language designer or
two and try to come up with something.  I for one would be interested in
hearing how it turned out.

I guess my current job (providing tools to support the development of
reliable, regular information systems) has really blinded me to the
differing needs of other computer users.. I'll need to consider other
angles the next time I put my foot into one of these discussions...
