No, Joe was right and you're wrong.  Consider

		(rootdir)
		/	\
	   (subdirA) (subdirB)
		\	/
		(whatsit)

By putting names on the inodes you have made it impossible to properly
show that whatsit's name is different in the two subdirs containing it.
