I'm not quite sure what your problem is.  Almost any PostScript I've
gotten my hands on works just fine on the LPS40, including (and especially)
ditroff output.  How are you getting the data to the LPS40?  With the VMS
LPS40 symbiont?  If so, make sure you included a "DATA_TYPE=POST" parameter
on the PRINT command.  For other approaches, check to see if the first
two characters of the file are "%!" -- some spoolers check that to see
if they're printing PostScript.
