  If you really want the digitized beep back, I just tried
the following with complete success (Sys 6.02).  Using
Resedit (or possibly Fedit etc.) open the system and the
snd resource then select the simple beep id #1 and "get info".
Change the id number to something else unique.  Then close
and save the changes.  Quit Resedit, then open the control
panel and the sound cdev and reselect the simple beep.  With
anyluck you should have your digitized sound back.
