I think it will probably solve most of my objections about speed of backups (since doing a distributed search will undoubtably speed things up), but there is still the problem that wbak writes slowly to the tape. I believe 4.3 dump speed should be achievable for a single file as far as keeping a streaming tape drive busy to at least occassionally stream. I guess with a fast network you could always just rcp these files to some machine with a faster tape system.
