Another program to check out would be EndNote, by Niles & Associates.
It is both an application and desk accessory which seems fast,
reasonably powerful, and friendly. It can read UNIX refer files, and
it works with MS Word, WriteNow, and MacWrite. It is also reasonably
priced. Perhaps best of all, it takes advantage of new TextEdit
features, such as the ability to embed formatting (styles and different
fonts) within text fields (which is good for scientific articles, etc.,
though currently TextEdit doesn't seem to support super- and subscripts as
styles - too bad...). It should be worth a look.
