I forgot to mention: my cross-compiler on the Sun didn't
know about -mpcc-alignment as in the make*.com files for
VMS. I assumed that if that had been removed then it would
be because pcc-alignment compatibility was the default, but
it is a possible problem.

I read once that there was some mailing list for discussing
gcc problems. Since I seem to be taking an interest in gcc,
