There are already too many of them out there. What we need is something more basic - a low level protocol on which anyone can define his/her OWN BBS. Everyone sets out to reinvent, not just the wheel, but the 1973 Camaro right down to the candy apple metal flake paint job. Who cares whether some software designer "hates" or "likes" downloading, or color, or glass TTYs, or whatever. That should be up to the hobbyist. A sophisticated client/server model (which, if I'm not mistaken, the original poster had backwards) would be a good start. Perhaps something can be built on one of the existing PD standards and adapted to several platforms. It would be nice, for instance, to be able to support full BBS functionality (however a site wishes to define it) over more than just voice grade dialed logins. -- Tom Neff UUCP: ...!cmcl2!phri!dasys1!tneff "None of your toys CIS: 76556,2536 MCI: TNEFF will function..."
