I routinely use Applelink, which is a mail/bbs system provided by Geisco (?) to Apple, over an X.25 network with about 1200-2400 bps throughput during the day. The user interface is graphical, but communication isn't. You lose the advantages of integrated text/graphics (graphics has to go in upload/download files) but the system's implemented on some MIS-type mainframe that can't handle graphics, anyway.
