Try checking out the ProComm terminal emulator program.  It has a facility
called "host mode" that will allow the PC to answer the modem, and let you
"logon".  Once you get passed the password check, you can then take over the
system.  All keyboard and output that would normally have gone to your
normal keyboard and screen, now is funnelled through the modem.  As long as
you don't invoke a program that reads and writes the video (e.g. a full
screen editor) you remain in complete control.

I've used this to get stuff to/from my home machine when I am at the office.
