Message-ID: <0XYhpkJ28k-0IREW8I@andrew.cmu.edu> Date: 29 Nov 88 17:25:04 GMT Organization: Carnegie Mellon Lines: 47 Since everyone one seems to be flaming me without thinking very hard, here's my final defense: The original question, for those of you who haven't been keeping up, was: "Interferon shows KillVirus as having nVIR. It is infected?" And I said "no." TO which, I was flamed, saying there was no way I could know. To which, I replied, "KillVirus is an INIT. NVIR can't infect it." To which I recieved about 10 angry and thoroughly abusive messages saying I am a stupid person and don't deserve to use a mac, let alone post as an authority on viruses. If you were all going to CMU, you would have bboard access revoked for sending mail as abusive as that. What is it that makes poeple on these bboards think that becasue they're sending mail from across the country, they can be as insulting as they want to be? As a defense, here's my final word: I was talking about ONE program: KillVirus, which is an INIT. I was talking about ONE Virus: nVIR. I assumed that you had a REAL version of KillVirus, not a hack which would ACTUALLY contain the virus, and that we were talking about nVIR only. EVERYONE knows by now that viruses can be written which will circumvent any of the current protections of virus conventions that are written today. I never claimed that KillVirus was free from ANY virus. If you had read the original question and thought a bit before you flamed me, maybe you would have saved yourself from looking stupid and me from getting so upset. I apologize for anyone who takes offense at this. I am not saying that all the mail I got was as harsh -- a few of you were very polite about it, and I thank you for pointing out the things I missed in my post. But the rest of you should think before you mail -- there is a real person at the receiving end of your flame that has feelings that can be hurt. ok? Laura Lemay ll12+@andrew.cmu.edu
