The thing that did it was when I had to reboot because pcomm had hung.
After investigation I found that the 3.5 version of the Unix-PC OS has
the old signal race condition. If the alarm goes off before the pause(2)
call well good night, with no chance of waking-up. I'm working on a fix,
please stay tuned.
