I've been using an OMTI 8240 disk controller with 2 Seagate ST-4096 drives for
some time. The system is a 386 AT-bus compatable machine running SCO
XENIX-386 2.2.3.
The controller supposedly provides some degree of track buffering and
the ability to allow MFM drives to work using a 1:1 interleave. These two
drives have been low level formatted as such, and have operated reliably over
the past year. A popular DOS benchmark shows it providing a data transfer
rate greater than 500KB/sec.
My question; Does anyone know if XENIX makes any use in terms of
functionalty with this particular drive controller setup? I have not
benchmarked the drive's performance under XENIX however, the percieved speed
seems similar to systems using a WD 1003 card and equivilent drive.
I have not seen or read anything about this controller's use under
XENIX. I tried it out as an inexpensive experiment. Any insight into this
would be appreciated. *** Happy Holidays! *** -gb
