I have sent mail to reply to many news articles. Due to a local situation, I frequently have to edit the address. Even with this, the MAILER-DAEMON frequently barfs it back. What I try then, and sometimes even try first, is the tail of the news path. Surprisingly, this often works. If it doesn't, and I consider it important enough, and I cannot find an address somewhere else, I consult the systems people. That doesn't alway work, either. Considering that I have been able to reach people by using the news-path to get a mail address more easily than by other means, I resent Matt's attack on my sanity. I know enough to leave out parts of the path, but I cannot see the use of a full news-path by a less experienced user of email as insane. -- Herman Rubin, Dept. of Statistics, Purdue Univ., West Lafayette IN47907 Phone: (317)494-6054 hrubin@l.cc.purdue.edu (Internet, bitnet, UUCP)
