Oops, I should say that the moire' occurs only on certain patterns, such as
the default Apple desktop pattern.  I have never noticed any moire' in
real situations.  This is important:  the MacUser article leads the un-
initiated to believe that a moire' pattern on the default desktop pattern
is a drawback when in reality the moire' never occurs for text and probably
won't be a problem for any desktop pattern or other graphics that you might
want to use (I mean, you've got a stinking color monitor, so you're *going*
to put up at least a color desktop and maybe a picture using colordesk or
something.  The moire' won't appear unless the picture or pattern has some
close, long, vertical lines in it).
