The Hayes 2400 is also somewhat brain-damaged. It's been a while since I looked at one, but I do remember that 1) There is no direct way to tell the modem to send back result codes when in originate mode, but not in answer mode. (You can get around this by having it reset to the state stored in EEPROM on DTR drop, but see #2) 2) You can tell the modem to hang up when DTR drops, OR to reset itself to saved settings when DTR drops, but not both 3) The DTR light on the front panel is always on, regardless of the actual state of DTR, even when the modem is configured to use DTR to prevent answer/hang up the phone On the other hand, it is better than the Hayes 1200. We have a Vadic VA2400MNP that works well - it's not too configurable, but it generally does what you want. However, its MNP implementation doesn't seem able to talk to anything else.
