I suspect {guess not fact} that Apple is no longer manufacturing the MacPlus
and what you are experiancing is the emptying of the pipeline.

Not too long ago the Plus took a big dip in price and I think that there
were system deals going with it. That is Apple's classic manuver to rid
the shelves of unpurchased oboslete machines. Stop manufacture, lower the
price, and when supplies are exhausted declare them discontinued.

They have stopped mentioning the Plus in the literature they send out to
user groups. The price of EVERYTHING else went up. They didn't even
mention the Plus.

I would love to be corrected by someone in the know. I think Apple should
produce at least one Macintosh that middle class people can afford.

PS any guesses as to which company will build the computer which
will be 'the computer for the rest of us'? Apple dosen't seem to be
interested anymore & I just don't know of any manufacturer into building
  a volks's computer.
