No, you need not run the nameserver on all your machines.  My sun3/50
is having enough trouble just running EMACS.  What you want is to have
a name server close by that you can call.  You only need a resolver.

Your C library calls should be linked with the resolver code to make a
query to a local name server.

Ditto, resolver not server.  Resolver is the client part of the domain system.
