They are very frequently misinterpreted as ordinary input rather than as movement commands, with various unpleasant results such as fields being overwritten, input prematurely terminated, and so on. I have seen this effect on Vaxstations, Plexus and IBM RT/PC, using the Vaxstation console, the RT console, VT[12]00 terminals and IBM 3151 terminals. It doesn't seem to happen any more or less frequently with any combination of the above. jw
