Well, I guess this is one of those little gotchas that occur once in-a-while. I've since discovered that there is no `-e' documented in any of the awk manual entries, back to before I ever used Xenix. Whatever the obscure reason was that prompted me to stick a `-e' in the command line, I have no clue. Stranger still is that the damn thing worked (right up until 2.3). I suppose since I was never challenged, I A.S.S.U.MEd `-e' was required.
