At one time gatech did appear to re-route, and I'm know that emoryu1 does not. (Since emoryu1 is a direct connection to ditka, I send a fair amount of mail thru there.) Still conjecture on my part as to which site was doing the dirty deed. And in fairness, all sites effectively publish their admin's e-mail address, namely postmaster, and mail to postmaster at both gatech and rutgers (as well as emoryu1) brought a swift and courteous reply from both sites, saying that they had marked the links in question as dead until the maps were properly updated. >Is there a measureable need for re-routing at any sites that are not >backbone? (I really don't know) In this case, re-routing at ditka (certainly not a backbone site) was necessary since the link no longer existed. Despite the quick replies from the various backbone postmasters involved, I still do not think they should be re-routing valid paths. -- Karl Swartz |UUCP {gatech!emoryu1,uunet!dasys1}!ditka!kls |ARPA rt1!ditka!kls@hc.dspo.gov |BIX kswartz "I never let my schooling get in the way of my education."
