Of course, then I was fired up with the interest and it was expanded when I went to private school (again, with scholarship help) and discovered an outstanding math teacher in 8th grade, who continued to teach me through high school.... I always felt that I was supported by parents and teachers in my endeavors to learn about mathematics. How unusual this sounds now, in the context of the 'discrimination' discussion....
