There have been enough of these lately that we need a resend....

Please do NOT inflict mailing list requests on XPERT. The instructions for
getting onto an X mailing list are attached below. Please keep in mind that
things are very hectic around here and that it takes a while to get to
processing all of the requests. If you have a high-priority problem and
the request list is taking too long, send to postmaster@expo.lcs.mit.edu,
NOT TO THE WHOLE LIST.

To subscribe to an X mailing list, please do the following:

    1. Ask around your organization to see if there is already a local
redistribution. If there is, all you have to do is get on the
	list locally.

    2. If there isn't a local redistribution for the list, set one up and
send mail to the appropriate topic-request list with the internet
domain style address for your redistribution.

The goal: to send just one copy of each piece of mail to a given
	company or university.

    3. Mail sent to a topic-request address should have the first word of
the subject line be TOPIC, in caps, so that it can be distinguished.
For example, mail sent to xserial-request should have XSERIAL be the
first word, and mail sent to lists-request should have LISTS be the
first word. Make sure that the return address to be used is
EXPLICITLY given in the body of the message.

For example,

	% mail xserial-request@expo.lcs.mit.edu
	Subject: XSERIAL addition request

Please add the following address to the xserial mailing list
	for the International Widget Company:

		xserial-local%mumble.widget.com@relay.cs.net
	^D

Case does not matter in mailing list names.
