Message-ID: <4802@mit-vax.LCS.MIT.EDU> Date: 29 Sep 88 13:07:09 GMT Organization: MIT Laboratory for Computer Science, Cambridge Lines: 41 Hi! Sorry if this article is a repeat of other articles that have been posted recently; I don't normally read this newsgroup. I have a friend who would like a computer for - text processing (probably TeX/LaTeX) - running lisp programs every now and again (mostly Common Lisp, but having Scheme available would be a nice plus) It doesn't have to be particularly fast, but the hitch is; he would like to be able to have a CRYSTAL CLEAR DISPLAY with LARGE FONTS; i.e. he would like to be able to read the screen clearly from a distance, but not get eyestrain reading it close up. Possibilities? 1. A cheapo PC clone with EGA or one of the fancy graphics cards? Problem: I don't know of any software that will allow him to work conveniently with large fonts. Are there ways of magnifying the screen? 2. An old fat mac (512k, etc.) Problem: It's not very expandable... Then again, neither is a PC... 3. A Mac SE, or a Mac II Problem: Is this more than he should be spending??? Any comments or ideas?
