We have so many sharp people on the net that I thought we could come up with a solution to virus writers. I know that most of the inventions that we use today were invented despite expert testimony which said that such things could not work. We can't currently guard against every devious scheme, but I am curious if there is any worth in trying to guard the system from the simpler viruses. Doctors innoculate us against the basics. And, I am hoping that if we at least think about the problems we have, we might someday solve them. I don't know if it will require a self-aware operating system, or just a new file system format, but I REFUSE to ASSUME that there is no possible solution. There MAY, in fact, be no solution. But I think we should keep looking. I think educating the virus writers is a meaningless phrase. They are clearly having too much sick fun too stop. So, the only thing we can really do is try to educate US. (Meaning all users). Nuff said. Thanks for your ideas and criticisms. PS. Matt Dillon, OK, you got me. I didn't know CRCs were that easy to duplicate.Someone mentioned this since you sent me your last message. Ignore my return mail. :-) Don White zehntel!donw Box 271177 Concord, CA. 94527-1177
