Yes, but small model on a 386 means 4Gb segments!  Substantial changes
will be needed to make a 386-based minix that can support gcc.  There
are several 286 protected-mode minix's floating around.  Rather than 'no
hope', I would say there's considerable hope that we can make gcc run
under minix.  Assuming that a 386 minix with segments >64K exists, the
next big challenge will be the fact that the current 386 gcc
implementation is based on System V.  Deity only knows how many library
routines will have to be re-invented and added to minix!
