As far as I can make out, there was no decision of the Judiciary, but a legal agreement between the two parties. This is probably not valid in England, (or indeed anywhere else but the US). I doubt if SEA would be able to establish *copyright* on the word "arc" here. Although it may claim it as a trademark, this simply requires an apropriate acknowledgement. One sees many adverts for software "compatable with ..."(123, dBase etc).
