For us local yokels who will be driving to AmiExpo or those coming into
town and staying elsewhere and renting cars, the Expo guys have apparently
struck some kind of "parking validation" deal with the Bonaventure for
$6/day parking. I believe this is mentioned in their ad which appeared
in the Oct. "Amiga Sentry" magazine which I can't put my hands on at
this moment in time, but at any rate a call to 1-800-32-Amiga would
get the facts.

To those of you who have never traversed the "financial district" of
Downtown Los Angeles what you basically have here is a lot of streets
with very little on street parking and a bunch of expensive multi-storied
parking structures near the hotel. When at the Expo you'll also be
treated to the sight of the recently mostly-restored First Interstate
Bank building a couple blocks away, which was, in May '88, the scene of
a rather spectacular fire which consumed 12 floors of the building.

People who are not familiar with LA have been asking me "where's a good
cheap close place to stay." To them I say "good luck." There's a
Holiday Inn not far from the Expo site, and a Hyatt Regency just down
the street, or you can try to brave the Bonaventure itself. A posh
hotel with similarly posh prices :-)

For the truly adventure-inclined amongst you, hike about 5 blocks
to the east of the Bonaventure where you can revel in the sight of
LA's legions of homeless people sleeping in doorways and alleyways
and parks. But that's another story.

Looking forward to seeing you Expo-attendees!
