Subject: How does one reversibly get rid of AU/X ?

I just got my new Mac II with AU/X. I bought the machine in this configuration
because of advantageous pricing. But I don't want the AU/X, though I don't
want to simple blow it away, either.

What I would I like to do is back up the AU/X partitions onto a remote Sun tape
drive, then reformat the hard disk for Mac OS. Has anyone ever done this? and
is this reversible? Is there a better procedure (w/o springing for a separate
tape drive?)

Thanks
