I know everything there is to know about hooking up disk drives to 4.3BSD Unix running on a uVax, but for that I have understanding of the operating system and I have manuals for the disk controllers. I have neither of these for Apollo machines. I'd like to replace the drive in the DN3010 with either a Maxtor XT-4380E (380 megabytes) or an XT-8760E (760 megabytes). I met someone once who tried, but said he couldn't do it, and had to resort to hooking up an EXT-4380 (an ealier version of the XT-4380E, which it so happens that Apollo markets as their own). I'd settle for using an EXT-4380, but would rather be able to use the newer, faster, large capacity drives. What I need to know is how to set the jumpers on the disk drive, how to set the jumpers on the disk controller, and how to configure the operating system for the new drive. Anyone have any pointers or ideas? Please mail me if you do because I don't read this newgroup regularly. I will summarize any responses I receive.
