For about 4 or 5 weeks now I have been reading the info-Atari16
postings and have come to the conclusion that (i) every once in a
while something useful appears and thus I should continue reading
the postings and (ii) if most of the dialog in the postings is
typical of multi-user banter on a BBS then I would be embarrassed
to admit I was a participant. For example, I have had to endure
the inane dialog about parochial Americans, lousy Rolls Royces and
hype about Mercedes and Porches. Can someone invent an electronic
filter to clean out the refuse from the postings?

Can the persons who post listings please use a little discretion
and refrain from bickering back and forth? How about some straight
ahead technical info about ST hardware and software. PLEASE!!!!!!!

I have a Mega2/Megafile20/SM125 system at home and a
1040/SH204/SM125 system at work. I use WordWriter, WordPerfect
(under PC Ditto) and MS Word (under Magic Sac). I use dbMAN on my
ST and dBASE III Plus on my AT at work. I use VIP, LOTUS (on my
AT) and EXCEL (under Magic Sac). I use UNITERM or ST640 to log on
to a CYBER system and will soon get an account on the new VAX
system installed at work. Postings about any aspect of what I have
listed would be greatly appreciated.

ST640, very much a UNITERM look-alike, was put out by the TRIUMF
facility in Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA. However, ST640
has a nice feature UNITERM lacks (at least I am unaware of UNITERM
providing the feature). TEK4010 plots generated by CYBER
applications (or any mainframe pkg that produces TEK4010 device
dependant files) can be written to EASYDRAW (and GEMDRAW) files. I
can use a sophisticated CYBER plotting package, capture the figure
to file, edit the figure using either EASYDRAW or GEMDRAW (on my
AT) and dump the final figure on an HP laserjet II. This avoids
having to use the site's central plotter and figures can be
electronically pasted in to 1ST Word Plus documents (on the PC).
ST640 will let you use inexpensive 520STs as terminals that can
capture plotter output for importing to documents. When you
consider that a 520ST is not much more expensive than a PC
application like Smarterm 240 and that ST640 is public domain it
is easy to see why some groups are standardizing on STs as
terminals.

One of the groups at work uses 1040STs with MAGIC SACs. No ST
software is used. The group uses EXCEL, MS WORD etc. Group members
and I would dearly love to have AppleTalk capability for the STs
so we could talk to Macs. Is any AppleTalk capability in the
offing from anyone out there?

Lastly, most STs at work are hooked up to SL/1 phones to get to
the CYBER and the new VAX. If the VT52 desk accessory is installed
any ST can instantly receive a message from any other ST simply by
dialing it via the SL/1. Is there a SMART terminal program that
is (i) a desk accessory and (ii) will automatically accept info on
an interrupt basis even though the desk accessory is not currently
active. If so, then all our STs will have a direct, on-line E-mail
service with full file exchange capability. Any assistance in this
would be very helpful.
