We had a similar surprise. A display manager for our solid modeling
package ran at first about half as fast on the 4D/70GT as it did on
the 4D/60! After some head scratching we realized the problem: on every
screen update we were also updating the status of the function key lights
on the keyboard. The keyboard interface on the 70GT must be slower than
on the 60; apparently only 9600 baud. After removing the keyboard update
the tide happily turned in favor of the 4D/70GT.
