Actually, the domain system is really just an addressing scheme and not
a name service.  The name service that the Internet provides is a part
of the delivery mechanism.  A UUCP link can also be part of the
delivery mechanism if the destination site is a UUCP site.

In any case, there's no need for a.b.c.d.e to be known to anybody
except b.c.d.e, except as an optimization.
