Moderated groups suffer from several problems; here are a few. >1. Mail delays; mail misrouting and failure. It's worse than that outside of N. America. Most Europeans are forbidden to mail to America. Even those who are allowed to often don't get through. E.g., my comment and vote didn't get through, and I am unusually well-connected for England, and I assume the vote-taker was reasonably well-connected. Moderation will cut off contributions from most people in most of the rest of the world.
