Re printer communications:

HP-PCL is a Printer Control Language, the one that DeskJet, LaserJet et al.
use.

HP-GL is a vector Graphics Language used by HP's pen plotters (e.g. 7470,
7586, etc). I don't believe DeskJet supports HP-GL: it cannot turn vectors
into rasters as far as I know.
