The default settings of the RS232 port are indeed not in the documentation,
not even in your BIOS listing.

Last year, working for the European branch of a big firm, I needed the
info, to find out what the best default setting of a printer should be.

We called an IBM dealer, the dealer called IBM.
It took two days to get a reply.
( the first day they said to look in the hardware TRM BIOS listing )
They finally understood that I wanted to know the DEFAULT settings
of the RS232 port under MSDOS.

The information, for PC AT ( I was using a clone ) proved accurate !
It took me some time to find that note, but here it is :

DEFAULT SETTINGS RS232C port IBM PC AT
--------------------------------------
        2400 baud
        8 data bits
        1 stop bit
        no parity
