You might try out FATBIT, available via THE STORE!(tm).  It's pretty
minimal, but does produce a C structure for a bit-mapped unix-pc
system, and the cost is that of a phone call to NJ.

(Speaking of which, I've managed to lose the phone number for THE STORE!(tm),
