That's a great idea!  (To select an interface for broadcast by bind()ing
the socket first.)  You could even handle the fact that there's
no route for e.g. 255.255.255.255, by invoking the check-for-bound-socket-
on-broadcast code only when the route lookup fails.  If on the other hand the
route lookup succeeds, you must have specified some net-specific destination.
