The short answer to the question is no. LISTSERV has no facility for
sending files in a line length other than what is stored. The INDEX
file (APPLE2-L FILELIST) is a Print format (133 character) file.
Frankly, it has some IBMish file information that I could do without
too, but what you see is what you get. Sadly, we have no control over
the format used to stre information about files contributed to the list.

The file can be sent in an 80 column format known as LPUNCH, but that
is a "wrapped around" file with coding in the first couple of columns
that permits you to write your own utility for restoring the original
file lengths (send any LISTSERV the command INFO LPUNCH and it'll send
you a file describing the LPUNCH format).

Dot matrix printers can print 133 character files on an 80 column carriage
using "compressed type" (that's why the compressed size is 17.6 characters
per inch - or whatever).
