It sounds like you configured your version of GNU Emacs to use X10R4
support rather than X11.  Either re-configure for X11 (changes to
config.h include adding '#define X11') or use the x10tox11 protocol
converter.

You did not specify which version of GNU Emacs you are using, but
18.50 was the first official release that had any support for X11 (it
was still somewhat buggy then).  If you don't have GNU Emacs 18.51,
get it.

GNU Emacs 18.51 has X11R2 support code that works (mostly) and patches
can be obtained that make it work better.  I can provide a copy of
these patches (~36K) (written by Dana Chee ).
