  Not true anymore, though it does have a line oriented mode, which I
  rarely use.  Actually, vi is the most line oriented full screen editor
  I have ever used  --  I can't make the cursor backup or move forward
  over the end of a line.  Seems like an obvious thing to want to do, no?
