I do something similar, except I use the small icon view and organize by
columns.  The first column, like Peter, is System stuff (System, Finder,
Clipboard File, Scrapbook File, MultiFinder, DA Handler, Macintalk, Macsbug,
Responder (you ARE using Responder, aren't you?), Easy Access, Key Layout,
etc.)  The second column is Chooser and Printing stuff (Appletalk ImageWriter,
LaserWriter, Laser Prep, AppleShare, AppleShare Prep, PrintMonitor, Spool
Folder, etc.)  The next column is Control Panel stuff (I won't name any),
and the fourth and final column is for miscellaneous things, such as
MacWrite Options.
