I have three friends including myself who have mac+'s and 30 or 40 meg
external drives.  I have never had any of the problems you describe and 
we are totaly delighted with the capabilities of the silver lining 
software.  From my sample of 4 drives over a 7 month purchase period 
the problem is not occuring on the smaller drives.
