The sources and binaries groups are limited in volume, at least as compared with the unmoderated equivalents. Some of them have quite high standards (for example, but not limited to, comp.sources.unix). They generally feed out large postings over a period of time to cut down on the load on the net. They avoid repostings by making archives available. Some of the stuff that gets posted to binaries groups (and even some of the stuff that gets posted to sources groups) is a bit dubious.
