  An even better idea would be a "pile", since it represents a bunch
of files piled together and readily accessible.  The icon could be
a lot more fun than a mere envelope or a paperclip.

  To avoid cluttering up the desktop, a different interface could be
implemented for such a pile.  A limit on the number of files in a pile
could be imposed, and instead of opening a window for a pile, a pop-up
menu or a modal dialog can be used, or some other "clean" modal
interface.

  This is certainly a good idea, and Apple should definitely consider
it.
