About three months ago I inquired about the possibilities of using my American
1040ST in Europe on 50 Hz. I received a lot of replies (thanks!) and, while
most were encouraging, no one actually said, "Yeah, I've seen it work." One
fellow from Atari said basically "It'll work; but to be sure, why don't you just
buy some new power supplies," which wasn't the most reassuring thing to hear.

In any case, when the machine finally turned up after being lost in the mail,
I plugged it into a mongo 220-to-110 V converter and, as everyone expected, it
works fine, monochrome monitor and external 2S disk drive included. Beware
that I received warnings that the color monitor does NOT work from 50 Hz.

If you plan on doing the same thing, you ought to think about getting a trans-
former in the US. I was told they exist over here, but (in Holland) I could
only find little 25 watt ones. I thought I was going to have to break out the
soldering iron and start attaching cables, connectors, and transformers, until
someone found the exact item in a storeroom at work.
