Please do not follow-up to this article. Do not respond in any way other
than in private mail. I wish herein only to apologize to some people whose
work and reputations I respect who have pointed out that my mouth overrun
my brain by quite a bit in the previous month's OSF discussions.

First: I was clearly speaking my own opinions, and not those of MIPS or any
other person or organization.

Second: I don't believe AT&T or Sun are acting evilly, or that IBM, DEC, and
the other OSF partners are acting altruistically. I think it's important to
take into account that these other companies, and ours, and I for that matter,
act in our own interest, and when that benefits the world as a whole, so much
the better. But it is important not to see everything in white-hat/black-hat
terms.

I hope that some good comes out of the OSF effort, and that it speeds rather
than slows UNIX acceptance. I hope that some good comes out of the AT&T/Sun
UNIX effort, and that it speeds rather than slows UNIX acceptance. I hope
that neither of these efforts leave their sponsors in an unfair competitive
position.
