Those special tools only work when you are in 2-bit b/w mode (they might also work in 2-bit color). So if you are working in a color setting (as I suspect), then you can't use them. I was dissappointed by this as well, but I learned to live with it. Still, it would be nice if Macromind would upgrade the paint unit to fully handle color painting tools. Still worse is the (in)ability to use your own sampled sounds without a special costs-extra program. Sigh.
