Pretty overpriced, huh? I have looked at FrameMaker and Arbortex's WYSIWYG and I am disturbed at Frame's attitude toward pricing. The very best that they were ever able to do was at a per workstation cost that seems unacceptable for any site whose primary business is not publishing. They have not budged in over a year of dealing with them on a reasonable site license. I am not looking to rip anyone off, but there is no way I am going to dedicate a few specific workstations for "word processing." And there is no way I am going to pay their fairly large fee for each and every workstation at my site. My understanding is that Arbortex is a bit more progressive in regard to licensing. I have heard that they will offer a "site" license with the understanding that no more than the agreed upon number of users will use the product simultaneously. My only problem with the Arbortex product is that we are not a TeX site, so I would take some time to get up to speed there. Speaking of WYSIWYG for Suns, I have heard that Sun plans on using a "Frame Like" product for all of the one-line documentation. Does anyone know any details about this. Does this mean that such a product will need to be purchased to read on-line manual pages etc? It would be nice if it was competitively priced..... -- John McInerney john@sdcsvax.ucsd.edu ---------------------------------------- Submissions to: desktop@plaid.sun.com Administrivia to: desktop-request@plaid.sun.com UUCP: {amdahl,decwrl,hplabs,ihnp4}!sun!plaid!desktop{-request} Archives can be gotten from the archive-server.
