We need to implement a comprehensive Internet mail package on a Tandem
machine here at the Med School. We wish to provide our Tandem users
with the capability to exchange messages with other hosts on our
campus-wide network and beyond. We plan to attach the Tandem to a Sun
3/260 using Sunlink X.25. The Sun will also be attached to our
campus-wide TCP/IP-Ethernet network. We'd like to put as much of the
burden for mail handling as possible on the Sun, taking advantage of
UNIX sendmail, etc. We are considering various alternatives for
mail transport over this X.25 link between the Sun and Tincluding
UUCP, SMTP, POP2, or ???

I'm looking for advice, information about similar projects, random
insights, etc? Has anyone tied a Tandem system into the Internet mail
environment, using a UNIX system as the gateway? Does anyone know
about useful mail User Agents for the Tandem? Etc. Any information
would be much appreciated.
