N. Walker's article reminds me... In my opinion, a programming language student should atleast understand Algol 68 but reading the Revised Report can be daunting. An excellent introduction to A68 is ``Introductory Algol 68 Programming'' by D. F. Brailsford and A. N. Walker (Ellis Horwood Publishers).
