Message-ID: <737@vsi.UUCP> Date: 29 Jun 88 17:58:28 GMT Distribution: comp Organization: V-Systems, Inc. -- Santa Ana, CA Lines: 50 Hi net.folks, Have you ever wondered how somebody can post something saying "XXX is terrible" then follow it up with "XXX is great"? Just watch... First: I recently posted some rumors about Informix and Plexus. At the time, I really did believe them to be true and I was not trying to cause troubles. In the meantime, however, I have been so thoroughly disabused of that notion that you should discard *everything* I have ever posted on them. Informix wrote TURBO, Plexus did not, and I feel pretty dumb to have been so vocal about such worthless info. Second, I also posted an (unrelated) flame about Informix support. My tone was entirely out of line and almost certainly got misread. A year ago we were specifically told that Informix did not do technical support by email, and that was my objection. I understand that email support is indeed in the works (oh no, another Informix rumor!). The *phone* support we have received from Informix has always been particularly excellent. My ill feelings about Informix are directed at the marketing and sales sides of the house, but I guess I got them confused with the technical side and I certainly didn't use the right forum. I have used Informix products for almost three years, and I have the highest respect for them technically. I used to use another Big Name UNIX database and have been glad I switched. Really, I like their products a lot and recommend them to my customers. In the future, my dislikes on this subject will be directed to Informix Corp. and not to the net. Hey, this has been a misearable month and I posted some stuff I should not have. Usenet is not well served by jerks like me posting s**t like that (especially in the comp.* groups) and it won't happen again. As a penance, I will send $1 to JJ's college fund. Thanks to those whose private email set me straight. Crawling back under my desk, Steve P.S. - why are apologies so much harder to write than flames? Sigh. -- Steve Friedl V-Systems, Inc.
