Miller) Organization: Graphic Software Systems, Beaverton Or Lines: 34 i am looking for a good quality portable airband (AM 108MHz-136MHz) receiver. i have very minimal requirements/preferences: * digital or thumbwheel or ratchet tuning - not AM-radio style * squelch * reasonable sensitivity (superheterodyne prefered) * low cost i went out and spent $20 at Ripoff Shack and got an AM radio with a switch that changes the band to 108MHz-136MHz. internally, all it does is change a resistor. sure, a scanner would be nice, like the Sony Air-8 (which is only sold at Sporty's Pilot Shop, i'm told), but i don't need that capability and i don't want to pay $220 for an AM receiver. i am a software engineer, but i have hacked hardware a bit. does anyone in netland have schematics for what i'm after? anybody play with the LM1820, basically an AM-radio on a chip? anybody have such a beast that they want to sell cheap? i would settle for a non-portable unit if the price were right. please email, as i don't typically read these newsgroups. if mail fails, you can reply to rec.aviation. thanks in advance, -- jdm -- ...!{tektronix!verdix}!sequent!gssc!jdm John D.
