This means, of course, that when a connection has been established there must always be a pending read in order to avoid losing data, but KERMIT (to use your example) can recover from the occasional overrun. Or, your program can toggle the /NOTYPEAHEAD bit with QIOs. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Mark H.
