We use a "null modem cable", set the COM port to 9600, set the switch on the back of the LaserWriter to 9600, and route the printout to the COM. The cable you described should work but it does not have all the handshaking that I believe a "null modem cable" has. We use this configuration to print regular ascii files, WordPerfect files, and PageMaker files.
