I know this seems boring, but it's necessary to remind and repeat ad nauseum to bitnetters that commands get sent to LISTSERV@somewhere (you can find out where "somewhere" is by sending any LISTSERV the command LIST GLOBAL and checking that file for the node which carries the list your looking for). IF you send a message to ANYTHING other than an address starting with LISTSERV (from bitnet, mind you -- if you're on USENET, you must be confused enough without this :-) it is likely to be mailed to anywhere from a 100 to several thousands of people (who will know you're alive BUT you won't get the response to the command you mailed). In the present example: send the mail containing the "subscribe" line to: LISTSERV@NDSUVM1 When you DO want to send all of netland (at least those of us with Apple 2's) a message, address that to info-apple@brl.arpa <--- NOTE that isn't a bitnet address! If you send messages to the bitnet address, all the wonderful folks on the Internet and UUCP won't get to see it. Got it? For those of you who view the above as "preaching to the choir" note the number of missent "signoff" messages that appear on lists. Some day you may wish to *sniff* leave us (if only for a vacation). IF you happen to be on bitnet, send the command SIGNOFF INFO-APP to LISTSERV@NDSUVM1 <-- see commands go to LISTSERV not to INFO-APP. If you're NOT on bitnet, then send the request to be deleted to info-apple-request@brl.arpa (that's a REAL person, by the way named Brint Cooper who, unlike a LISTSERV appreciates a thank you and the occasional kind word). NOTE however, that info-apple-request is NOT info-apple (we'll miss you, but we don't all need to be told - unless you really do want to bid adieu). --------------------- Disclaimer: --- My employer isn't responsible for my mistakes AND vice-versa!
