I can't help it if I'm impatient. I remember Dr. T.'s announcement of RPC based networking for MINIX 1.3. This sounded too good to be true at first. But since then I haven't heard any follow-ups/discussions at all. I am interested in it because, with MINIX RPC, we will have a REAL network based operating system since MINIX kernel itself is message passing. Can anyone reveal some pre-release secrets of this thing? Will it resemble SUN RPC in its syntax? Will it come with high level stub generators (like rpcgen in SUN RPC 3.9, Courier, or NCS RPC)? What hardware will it use? I assume you're using TCP/IP based protocol and implementing RPC over it, so you probably are working on some ethernet device driver... I hear western digital ethernet card WD8003E is the lowest cost, highest performance card (for about ~$209 single units?). Please tell us more... I am picturing this MINIX distributed O.S already....
