It allowed larger sizes, but didn't display them on the screen... It doesn't seem to have a limit on subcripting levels either, I just made and equation with 7 levels, at which point the size of the 7th level was 2 points! After that it continued to make 2point subscripts automatically. Of course you can set the point size for subscripts to be anything you like.
