This would imply that a '386 is nothing more than a faster '286 with 
a memory manager added on. Is that really true? Hard to believe!

Is there someone out there who can authoritatively comment on this
particular question?

If this were true I could go out and buy the $99 386 UNIX from Bell Tech
and run it on my AT clone with an "ALL CHARGECARD" -- that would be
too good to be true!
