Given that we know a *little* about this, in that it will tend to keep
proportions more or less consistent when a font is scaled, the question
has arisen, does it do this only to Adobe fonts, or downloaded outlines
as well ?

Recent ex-employees of Adobe are of course encouraged to post the source :-)
