The right way to see things like fireworks, in fact, is to go there in
late afternoon by public transit, and then have a picnic supper and
generally laze around until fireworks time comes.  Afterwards, hike
north a substantial distance to get away from the crush, and take
public transit home.  (Public transit in the immediate vicinity of the
lakeshore will be utterly jammed; unless you are handicapped or very
seriously tired, hiking north until you hit an uncrowded east-west
streetcar or bus route is better.)
