When I switched my Mac (Fat, upgraded to Plus) on tonight, all I go on
the screen was a vertical line down the middle, acting as if all the
pixels had been mashed away from the edges. It still boots and shuts
down fine (thanks in part to my adding cmd-Q==Shut Down to the
Finder), so the problem seems to be just in the video. As far as I
noticed, there was no warning or external attack.

Is this the famed flyback transformer breakdown? If so, how should I
fix it/get it fixed? If not, what is wrong, and how can it be fixed?

Please reply by mail; I'm leaving town next week.
