When I received Ultrix 1.2 I got a 4,8 and 16 user
distribution tape. I must have used the 4 user
tape to install the system because when more than four users
try to log in a message appears saying 'login limit reached
try again later'.
So I did an UPDATE installation using the 16 user tape and
although the installation proceeded without any problems
I still get the 4 user limit. In the configuration file I
have MAXUSERS defined as 8.
My question is how do I upgrade the system to a 8 or 16 user
system without doing whats known as the FULL installation ?
I presume if I do a full installation (remakes
all file systems etc) instead of an update (only remakes kernal
and reloads system software) then I will get what I want but
this is a real pain considering how slow
the tk50 is in backing up/restoring data (I suspect there would
only be one object file different). So before I resort to this
has anyone done it with an update or something similar?
By the way I am licensed for 16 users, I mistakenly loaded
the wrong tape without reading the fine print. Thanks.
