The standards for 300 baud and 1200 are VERY different.  There's no easy way
to upgrade the modem.  With the low prices of 1200 ($77) and 2400 ($200) baud
modems, its quite worth going out and buying one.  300 baud is unbearable,
and after the 19200 baud terminal I have hooked up to OS9 (see another post
on here by me) I'm getting tired of 1200!
