I have two of the USRobotics HST 9600 modems and use them regularly
for large file transfers using XMODEM protocol (1k blocks, ala
YMODEM).  I don't know much about tcp/ip but if the transactions are
mostly in one direction (i.e., the receiver sends ACK/NAK's) this
modem should work great for you.  It automatically gives the 9600 baud
to the direction that has the most data to send.  If that changes, it
reverses (transparently).
