I don't know how you're trying to use the modem from Basic, but chances are
that it won't work exactly the same as a Super Serial card. (in#2 works OK)
I don't believe that Apple kermit supports a 'Pascal' driver like DCOM does.
[DCOM worked right away with the Apple //GS]

If the VersaCard works with Pascal, then it probably follows the Pascal 1.1
Firmware Protocol.  This protocol standardizes how to initialize, send and
receive data from the card.  Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to standardize
how to send the 'break' signal which is often required in data communications
applications.  [Anyone (especally from Apple): please let me know if this is
otherwise.  Maybe this is what the recently added 'control' entry points are
for?  I'd be happy to recode the firmware ROM on my VersaCard to follow the
latest revision of the Firmware protocol, but not if it won't help anything.]
