Who and WHAT is the Network Information Center. By what authority does this organization "sanction" anything? I have been hearing references to NIC for about a year now. I'd sure like to know who those Nazis are! The NIC is the organization contracted to DARPA to run the Arpanet. (BBN is responsible for day to day operations of the physical network.) NIC is the central clearinghouse for user information and official protocol information. As far as for their being Nazis, please remember -- DARPA pays for their network. They can do what they want. If you don't want to talk to the Internet, that's fine. ;-) Tony Li - USC University Computing Services "Fene mele kiki bobo" Uucp: oberon!tli -- Joe Isuzu Bitnet: tli@uscvaxq, tli@ramoth Internet: tli@sargas.usc.edu
