I don't know if AST & P-H licensed the setuid patent from AT&T (or D. Ritchie),
but it is my understanding that AT&T has a pro bono publico policy on the
use of that patent, and the gist of it is that you may use the setuid
concept free of charge, provided you do not claim it as your own, and you do
not prevent others from using it.

(Even big, impersonal corporations have been known to do the RIGHT THING :-)
