Pacific Systems introduces the Panacea CDP-8 as a solution
to the majority of RS-232C interconnection problems. The
Panacea provides 8 user-configurable RS-232C ports which may
be electronically interconnected in one-to-one, one-to-many,
or many-to-one configurations. Data may pass between inter-
connected ports of differing RS-232 parameters. For exam-
ple, a 9600 baud port with hardware handshaking may freely
exchange data with a 1200 baud port with software handshak-
ing; the Panacea handles all flow control and buffering
details.

Panacea's multiplexing feature permits a wide variety of
solutions to common problems. A common Panacea application
is the Console Terminal Server application in which the con-
sole ports of up to 6 computers or workstations are multi-
plexed so that a single printer records a hard-copy of all
system messages. A selectable timeout feature for shared
ports maintains message integrity while allowing automatic
switching of data streams. A user-selectable label for each
port identifies the data source for easy auditing of the
multiplexed data.

Other RS-232C connection problems such as electronic or phy-
sical gender mismatch, differing data rates or parity, and
Hardware vs Software flow control are handled as well. A
simple single-screen setup menu allows all configuration and
interconnection parameters to be changed with ease. Changes
are then saved in non-volatile memory so that they need not
be re-entered if power is lost.

The Panacea is available today from Pacific Systems, Inc.,
7451 SW Coho Ct., Suite 203, Tualatin, OR 97062. Single
unit price is $1295.00, a quantity discount schedule is
available.
