I haven't used the Curses package much, but the SMG routines are very good for certain things, and are not hard to use. They have a lot of useful things that I don't *think* are in Curses (broadcast trapping, etc.). On the other hand, they are not well suited for things like rogue or hack simply because they would tend to be slow for the kind of screen updating, etc. in that type of game.
