Obviously if one is running a multiprocessing terminal server (eg Unix type
box) you want to off-load as much TCP and IP processing to some other board.
The real discussion is how well currently available boards work.

My concern is the use of smart boards on a single processing remote terminal
such as a PC.  Is the smart Excellan board worth $600 more than the dumb 3com
board (the board is $300 more but it requires an external transceiver).
The Excellan salesman laughed at me when I posed this question but gave
no data.  3com however, only recommends their smart board for use in servers.
