Well, I don't think you got anything wrong, and you probably "know" just as well as I do, but just to add something: We have a Novix chip here. It will run at 4mhz or 8mhz. This, on the Novix NC4000, turns out to be 5 MIPS or 10 MIPS. It's kind of a neat-looking little bugger, with about 128 pins sticking out the back of it. It can do neat things like a return in zero cycles, etc. It merges the return opcode with the opcode of the previous instruction. The Novix can do a bunch of stuff in parallel and so it turns out to be zero cycles for the return. Kinda neat! :-) Obviously, I am *not* the hardware type, but if anyone has any specific questions about the Novix, send me mail and I'll have one of the local hardware geniuses who consults for Novix answer your questions... -- -- Bill Kelly {hplabs!hp-sdd, ihnp4, sdcsvax}!crash!billk "I hate operating systems!" --GMK
