Without reading the document, I'd guess that SNAP stands for "Sub
Network Access Protocol".  and as such refers  to  not  one,  but
several  protocols  including  the  Etherenet, DDN X.25 and AHIP,
Hyperchannel, Proteon ring...  etc...
