Is it possible to set up a 7300 to time out users with inactive terminals?

I have tried setting TMOUT=60 and exporting TMOUT in /etc/profile,
and even though TMOUT appears in env, nothing happens.
I also tried calling TMOUT readonly, but no difference.

I would apprecite any pointers to a solution.
Thanks in advance.
