	In "Computing Practices"
(Communications of the ACM, June 1987, Volume 30, Number 6, page 520)

the article	"arithmetic coding for data compression"
by Ian Witten, Radford Neal and John Cleary,

describes an algorithm, superior to the better-known Huffman method.

I'd like to apply this algorithm to texts, and compare it
with other methods. If there is anyone who knows where I can find the
'C'-sources of this method, please contact me. You can send me your
answer directly by mail, or reply in this newsgroup.
