The early hard disks were shipped with a buggy HDX. The "canned" partitions worked fine, but the partition editor would create overlapping partitions that would eventually lead to the sort of bizarre behavior you describe. Atari announced that the bug was corrected some months ago and that the updated HDX would be shipped with the new disks and would be available through dealers. I am still waiting for my dealer to get it, as I am also waiting for the ability to boot directly from the hard disk, another feature that was announced by Atari several months ago but never to my knowledge made available to users. In the meantime, I have been using the 10-5-5 canned partition and have had no further trouble. Maybe you have the bad HDX, too, in which case I suggest you repartition and reformat your disk (if you can) using a canned partition. --Mike Fischer-------
