Thank you to all who responded to my recent request for help in getting
Chameleon to work with UNIX. Take heart those of you who wrote to say
you just gave up. On the Chameleon options screen, change the parity
to off. That seems to work just fine. In fact, I am composing this
with vi, dialed in from home, and running chameleon.

Special thanks to Dani A. Roloson of the University of Waterloo.
Dani sent me a copy of an E-mail conversation with Kent C. De La Croix
who apparently supplied the solution, if I interpret who wrote what
correctly.

No longer will I need to use the VT100 emulator VT10 SQUARED,
although it is an excellent emulator. Those 80 columns on a color
monitor are not too easy on the eyes!
