I am planning on automagically deleting backup files at my site simply
because we, like most sites, have only X amount of disk storage.
However, we do daily backups, so any file more than three days old
would be on two or three backup tapes before it was deleted.

Suggest you at least leave a little stub telling what tape(s) it's on.

I would hate to have to ask my sysop "could you pull the most recent
foo.baz.~x~ off the tape? I don't know what x is, but i think it's in
June or July."
