Something like /usr/local/nosupport/lib/gnuemacs.17.71/lisp would be better. Note that in general each version of the executable should use its own set of library support corresponding to that version. On bbn-prophet the executable is /usr/thishost/bin/emacs-17.61.11 linked to /usr/thishost/bin/xemacs and the corresponding support library (with path built into the executable) is /usr/thishost/lib/gnuemacs.17.61, with etc and lisp subdirectories. This version of emacs also has compiled into it the path for the lock file directory, which is /usr/thishost/lib/gnuemacs/lock The reasoning here is that all versions of gnuemacs should share the same lock directory. This scheme was ported with minimal difficulty and no recompilation or path changes to bbn-spca; /usr/thishost/src/gnuemacs.17.61 was not copied, so only ~2.5MB rather than ~12MB were taken up on bbn-spca. -Robert
