I don't know what Smith & Wesson Model 41's go for these days, but
I can't imagine a better weapon for moderate to serious target 
shooting.  The Ruger heavy (aka 'bull') barrel automatics are okay
too, but generally fall into the beginner to intermediate competitor
category.  So if you are just looking for a fun target weapon,
then a target-model Ruger should be just fine.  If you expect
to someday go into serious competition, however, I would suggest
you look at the S&W 41, either now or later.
