I apologize. A number of items I have seen now have blasted superusers in the same way that I let forth on rms - without thinking it through. Disk space is in practice too tight a commodity to let quotas handle the problem. Giving everyone sufficiently small quotas that sum of quotas < disk size is often too prohibitive. The essential distinction is between archive and backup, as has already been discussed. This is why I proposed different naming conventions. I don't suppose I need to point out to anyone that I, at least, need to listen to my advice. Jon Shapiro
