The Ruger heavy (aka 'bull') barrel automatics are okay too, but generally fall into the beginner to intermediate competitor category. So if you are just looking for a fun target weapon, then a target-model Ruger should be just fine. If you expect to someday go into serious competition, however, I would suggest you look at the S&W 41, either now or later. Good luck. . .
