VIC-II Bluggity Blugg...
For some time I had noticed that some sprites on my C64 had missing
parts. Sprites 2 and 6 in my case were missing some vertical pixels or
would display them only sporadically. After checking out obvious things
like grounding and interference, plus bad RAM (moved Sprites to other
pages but same symptoms appeared), I figured the VIC-II chip might be bad.
Fortunately, these are now available from sources such as JAMECO for about
$20.00. I ordered a new one and by gum...it solved all my problems.
