I suspect you are probably right.  What we need is a demo program that
walks directory trees, doing nothing but putting up icons.  When it
finds a directory not containing a "quickicons" file, it munches all
the existing .icon files and builds a new one.  Once the users see
how fast it really COULD be, the pressure for change will be on...
