The 10-bit self-sync bytes aren't ten ONEs, but rather eight ONEs and two ZEROes. My apologies for any confusion I may have caused - it's been a *long* time since I looked at the Apple stuff, and I dashed off that posting here at work without either my Apple documentation or my brain available.
