I firmly believe that net.sources should not have been deleted without
providing a direct replacement (comp.sources).

The THEORY is that mod.sources supercedes net.sources. However, this
is just NOT TRUE! Back when I was mod.sources moderator, there seemed
to be a clear desire on the part of net.citizens to keep net.sources
in parallel with mod.sources.

The problem is even worse now. When I was moderator, I tried to keep
sources flowing smoothly - my source code backlog was never more than
about a week. Not to denegrate the work of the current moderator, Rich
$alz, but he has not been able to keep up with the level of submissions!
There have been no programs posted to mod.sources over the past two
weeks (this is how long we keep sources here, we have NOTHING in the
mod.sources spool directory), and lapses of over a month without a
posting have occurred. Then, when Rich gets some time, he floods the
net with several large postings, which causes large-scale lossage in
certain parts of the net.

Let's face it, mod.sources JUST ISN'T WORKING!!!! It is just too much
work for one person to do as an unpaid volunteer! I have heard
suggestions about multiple moderators, etc, but UNTIL such schemes are
in place, and are working properly, PLEASE bring back an unmoderated
comp.sources!!

John P. Nelson, ex mod.sources moderator.
