Even certain hard disks will crash if the head is left in one place
too long and the head wasn't touching the media.  There is still friction
and that causes heat and that can destroy things.  Two notable drives
that exhibit this problem are the old version CDC drives that came with
our Gould and the AMPEX video effects machine.
