Actually, you know it's got to do more than that. At the very least, it has to read the preferences file in order to get your screen colours and mouse pointer right. A peek at Matt Dillons posting of a while back about which files are touched at startup might yield a better chronology of what is happening there. I have it somewhere if you can't find it. Alternatively, Matt might want to update it for 1.2 (wonder if anything changed much). Michael
