Hello,

We got a VAXstation II running Ultrix 1.1. I want to use the serial
console line as a printer port for an Oki Microline 183. Reading
manual part 4 (qvss), there is an explanation how to do this (You have
to make a device with a major device id of 38 and minor device id of
0). When I plug in the printer and try to print something (correct
setup of the printcap file), spaces and some other characters are
converted to '@' and '('. I tried to put a terminal parallel to the
printer and I got the output, I wanted to have. With a tester for
RS232 (voltage leds only) I found out, that the send line of the
console was not on mark. When I hat the terminal in parallel to the
printer, the terminal drove the line to mark.

Now my question: Is it normal, that the serial console doesn't drive
it's send and receive line to mark ?

Could you please mail your answers to me.

Thanks in advance
