Summary: Set "checkpoint-frequency" higher to relieve aggravation

I also hated cleaning up behind emacs, (this is a Gosling, not a Gnu). In
this rendition, the backup files are created after a certain number of
keystrokes, which is able to be preset in the .emacs_pro file. Here's what
mine looks like:

(setq-default checkpoint-frequency 50000) ; create a #C* file every 50K

If 50,000 keystrokes is *still* too many, tyr 90,000. You'll NEVER see an
automatically created file again.

If Gnu does not use "checkpoint-frequency" or a .emacs_pro, there is still
another way to skin this particular cat. You can use the unix programs "cron"
and "find" to search out the offending files on a regular basis (like
nightly) and zap 'em. Hope that helps.
