7 Seconds/Verbal Assault at Channing-Murray, Urbana IL

Last week's, ummm, unspectular show with area bands Ill-noize, Random
Noise and Buckethead (who did an awesome Feelies-style folk-thrash
version of Robyn Hitchcock's "Sometimes I wish I was a pretty girl",
superior to the original, I'm not kidding) was kind of a warmup
for this, I guess. Verbal Assault was LOUD. Animated hardcore with
good guitar which unfortunately got buried in the mix.

When did 7 Seconds shed their "kids next door" look? Anyway, their
new material sounds much better (read raw and raunchy) live, so I
liked it even tho I wasn't impressed by what I've heard from the
new album. A little unruly at times (I think this is the last show
of their tour. They originally cancelled to shorten the tour but
rescheduled when somebody else cancelled their Chicago date.) Finished
with the old warhorses, 99 Red Balloons and Walk Together Rock Together,
which got the crowd fired up even more and singing, etc. Two encores
from the new album.

Are 7 Seconds trendy yet? I saw some trendies in the crowd...
