It is clear that whether or not I said the right thing I said it
in the wrong medium in the wrong way to the wrong people. I apologize.

A number of items I have seen now have blasted superusers in the same
way that I let forth on rms - without thinking it through. Disk space is
in practice too tight a commodity to let quotas handle the problem.
Giving everyone sufficiently small quotas that sum of quotas < disk size
is often too prohibitive. The essential distinction is between archive and
backup, as has already been discussed. This is why I proposed different
naming conventions.

I don't suppose I need to point out to anyone that I, at least, need to
listen to my advice.
