I put together a DATATRIEVE domain to keep track of our tapes. The DATATRIEVE
query language makes it easy to do the things you suggest, provided that you
plan the record contents sufficiently in advance. We record shelf code,
creation/receipt and review dates, owner or user, data type code, description
of contents, media and encoding info (now that our library includes media other
than mt1600), and comments.

A "last mounted" date, which you suggested in your note, is an excellent idea
and I believe I will add it to the domain. Thanks!
