We did a lot of back country x-country skiing (ie. telemarks) in Logan Canyon. Snow is nearly as deep as near SLC and just as fine powder on the right days!! Logan Canyon also has much less danger of avalanche. Just take US 89 north from Logan (actually starts out heading east) to get to the general area. For specific spots to ski, ask at TrailHead Sports on Main St. If you're really into telemarks ask about the "Temple Peak" trail. As for lodging there are a couple BestWesterns in town, one with indoor pool and whirlpool. Its been a few years since I've been there so I can't recommend too many eating establishments, but the "Factory" on Main St. used to serve good pizza and beer. Good luck, you'll love it.
