For various reasons recently I got to thinking about how I
define my relationships with others, and how those I know define
their relationships with those they know.

Let me explain what I mean by defining relationships. Once
I began to think about these things, I realised that everyone I
know fits into a kind of a pyramid. A pyramid because it has few
people at the top, and countless numbers at the bottom.

It works like this. At the top are the people that I am `in
love' with. (Yes, this can be plural.) On the next level down
are those I `love'. These are whom I consider to be my close
friends. Next down are those I consider `friends'. Next are
aquaintences. And lastly are those I don't know at all.

The difference between the four levels has to do with the
amount of commitment I have toword these people. The higher they
are in the pyramid, the more commitment I have toword them.

A friend of mine thinks of her pyramid very differently.
She thinks of her pyramid as having room for only one at the top,
and lots and lots of people in the next spot down. But she
thinks of having a very wide variance in that second spot.

I'm not sure that there actually is a lot of difference
between her and I, except in terminology. But then again, I
don't know what kind of commitment she has toword these people.

So I'm curious. After getting this thought out for myself,
I'd like to know what kind of philosophys others have on this
matter. Do most people think of things as various levels as I
do, or do most think of maybe two levels with a wide variance
within, or is there something I haven't thought of?

                                        Peace,

                                                Sean.
