Well, I checked further after seeing your posting, and that explains
why sg#0 didn't work on my wyse50 when using dim for standout mode,
as the terminal implements that attribute by setting bit 7 in the screen
memory.  This makes the attribute associate with each character, not
with a screen position.

Unfortunately, the distinction isn't clear (or mentioned at all, actually)
in my termcap(5) manual page.  Maybe you have a different manual page...
