Dufty was married to Gloria Swanson for awhile. The book is
absolutely ridiculous. WHile it does contain *some* accurate information,
it also has some completely wild claims about the glories of a sugar-free
diet and has some really dubious nutritional information. Several years
ago I stopped eating sugar for about three years. Contrary to Dufty's
claims, mosquitoes still ate me alive, my skin still broke out and I still
fell asleep in class. I now eat a mixed diet which is low in sweets (it is
true that you lose your taste for them after awhile) and "hidden sugar"
and life is alot easier.
People who want to avoid sugar (if not eliminate it entirely) have
to get very good at reading labels. Almost everything in the grocery store
that comes in a bottle can or box has sugar in it (except maybe in the
detergent section :-). This includes catsup, peanut butter, soup, boullion
(use KNorr-Swiss bullion cubes - lots of salt but no sugar), and on and on.
You learn all kinds of things reading the labels.
