Last word on Satellite viewing freedoms:

All satellite channels may now be coded.  Congress passed a law  a few
years ago that they could not be coded "most of the time" until decoders
could be rented by the cable companies to the satellite viwers.  They
are now available (about $12 a month).  The satellite system sellers are
pressuring for a 2 year extension but it probably won't make it.  Look
forward to coded (no you can't build your own decoder) reception as the
norm in the next 6mo to year.  So you can forget the freedom stuff.
