Another difference between chain letters and shareware is that chain letters
threaten dire negative consequences to the recipient if the recipient does
forward the letter with significant fan out.  Chain letters, at least if
they use the Post Office, are in violation of Federal law.  I suspect this
is also true if they are sent electronicly interstate.
