My brother once had a ct that insisted on using a large potted
plant for a litterbox.  His solution was to get 5 pounds of nails,
then inbed them in the soil, points up.  Granted, this is a bit extreme,
if not time-consuming.  He wasn't there when the cat "got the point",
but the cat's behavior was totally benign towards that planter from then
on, even after he removed the nails.  Must have made an impression.
