Neal Macklin asked if VCRs without MTS decoders actually record the MTS
signal which could somehow be decoded later. The answer is no. These
VCRs decode only the mono signal and record it directly on the linear
track (or on the hi-fi tracks). In fact, the only part of the broadcast
signal that is recorded much as it was broadcasted is the chroma information.
