Lack of object compatibility is expensive for the software developer,
the software manufacturer, and the software retailer. It is one of the
primary reasons that there is no mass-market UNIX software. You can't buy
UNIX software at ComputerLand. You can't buy UNIX software from 800-SOFTWARE.
You may be able to buy a little at Radio Shack. Collectively, there are
enough UNIX boxes out there to support some volume products, but the
incompatibilities between machines prevent a market from developing.
