That, my dear flatlanders, is not football. The true significance of football is known to Dartmouth students through the ritual of the bon fire, football is a mystic rite of fall. The emotion of football is known to Dartmouth students through the comradeship of friends freezing right out there with you in the stands. The visual effect of football is perceived in young people of the opposite sex looking back at you with the romantic effect of football in their eyes, (more on that later), and in the brightly colored slickers of the preppies prepared for rain. The viseral wonders of football come from the home-prepared tail-gate picnics with family and old friends. The romantic effect, by far the greatest effect of football, is a delicate machine that has many variables only oneof which is the score. In fact, large differences in score in either direction increase the romantic factor. I think mostly it depends upon the clarity of the New Hampshire skys, the smell of the maple and the pine, and where you choose to sit. Ah and the sounds of football, what better sound could there be than the daughters and sons of Dartmouth sining their alma mater? There isn't. So you see football could exist with out a score, and anyone who puts an overabundance of their personal energies into calculating, predicting, manipulating monies upon, and generally tooling on scores, are sorry and misguided fanatics who are deprived of the true meaning of football. Shit, I wish we won more games. Maybe I'd go to more of the depressing events.
