If you're a "night grinder", there are solutions short of braces.  If
your grinding isn't too bad, you may be able to get by with a "bite
guard".  It's a custom-made plastic device that fits over your upper or
lower teeth and worn at night.  It doesn't cure the problem, but it
does keep you from damaging your teeth.

I have been wearing one of these for about five months now.  I'll
probably get orthodontic work eventually, but since the grinding
doesn't cause headaches, this is a good temporary solution.  (It's also
pretty cheap.)
