There is a very easy way to take apart a jewel box.

There are 6 holes on the sides (top and bottom) of the jewel box.
These holes happen to be just the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen.
If you just insert a pen into the 4 holes which are near the corners
of the box then the black plastic will just pop out. No muss, no fuss.
