The GI AY-3-8910/12/13 series are not really music chips, they are noisemaker chips. That is, their purpose is to make noises, some of which may be musical in a general sort of way. They are not what you would pick for serious music work. They are, on the other hand, not bad for using sound in human interfacing -- they are vastly superior to a one-tone beeper! That is how they should be viewed: as a better and more useful replacement for the beeper, not as God's gift to computer music enthusiasts. -- Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
