How significant is the age factor when purchasing an aircraft? For instance
how does one decide that a larger, but older, aircraft is a better buy than
a younger but smaller one, or vice versa? What are the reasons for
choosing one over the other?

This has always fascinated me because I have heard that hulls can
survive for decades which to me indicates that assuming the engines have
acceptable lifespan remaining, and ignoring some wear and tear on the
upholstry, the way to go would be with the more powerful or larger aircraft.

On the other hand do people ever say "yes both aircraft cost the same, however
watch out for the older one because .... "?
