Ginger ale is drinkable, in a pinch; I'd rate it tied with, say, cola, and well before Dr. Pepper, but well behind bitter lemon, or even straight tonic water. Ginger beer, on the other hand rates right up there with champagne on my list of things to drink. Ginger beer is to ginger ale as stout is to light beer. Unfortunately you can expect to pay as much for it as for real beer, and may get carded (although it is not alcoholic). Good stuff, but not for those who don't like strong tastes. Elizabeth D. Zwicky
