Perhaps we relly ought to do awy with virtual store all together.
It was afterall a retrograde step in computer architecture; before
someone concocted it every decent programmer knew the latency time,
rotational delay, etc. of his backing store. Armed with this
knowledge and knowing how the flow of control in the program
one would carry out a few calculations to determine the best
locations ( on drum ) for the various parts of the program in
order to achieve the best overlay scheme. Small wonder the
software cost has gone up so much ...
