Well read but, not well read enough. Pterygoid Plexus relationship to TMJ and sinus circulation. In article <1973@aecom.UUCP>, werner@aecom.UUCP (Craig Werner) writes: > > > > Dear Bea, > > > > 99.999% of all "sinus headaches" are caused by the habit of allowing > > ones teeth to touch (rest together) while relaxed. > > First of all, the number is wrong (it can't be that high). Secondly, no > Sinus headaches are caused by teeth grinding. Headaches caused by teeth > grinding are called "TMJ - or Temporal-Mandibular Joint" Headaches. There os > probably a lot of misdiagnosis between the two types. So some people who think > that they get sinus headaches actually get TMJ. > I wouldn't bet on the 99.999% but I WOULD lay my reputation on 95%. When I was in medical school there were many ENT specialists who said there was NO SUCH THING as chronic sinus disease. When the teeth touch as a habit (any other time than while chewing) the venous outflow tract of the sinuses--the Pterygoid Plexus--is blocked. The resultant congestion of the sinuses increases the risk of allergy and infection. No one who has watched a cranial osteopath relieve years of chronic sinus congestion, within minutes of a five minute manipulation of the maxillae (which are locked in place by the habit of TMJ), could make such an arrogant, ill-informed statement as above. > > > The American Holistic Dental Association could refer him to someone in > > your area up to date in the management of this condition. > > Let me tell you about Stoll's dentistry. In a private letter, trying > to defend himself against a factual error about Cavities, he made a statement > to the effect that "positive (outward) flow through the microtubules can > arrest decay of and even regenerate tooth enamel." First: I made no "factual error" about cavities. Second: I stand by the statement that "positive (outward) flow through the microtubules can arrest decay of and even regenerate tooth enamel". Only when a person has insufficient ammunition would he resort to mysterious information from "private letters". If Craig wants to use information from those private letters let him place ALL of both sides of the correspondence on the net. A favorite ploy by those with insufficient facts on their side is to selectively quote a source! > To set the facts straight: Enamel is ground substance - it is > extracellular. Microtubules are intracellular, ergo, enamel contains no > microtubules. Two, microtubules are structures, not pipes, nothing flows > through them, only along them (like an escalator), and then, only inside cells, > it being very energy intensive. Three, enamel is made from the inside out > by cells called ameloblasts. These are stripped away when the tooth erupts > and no more enamel can ever be made. I have a good mind to frame these two paragraphs. I cannot remember when I have seen such an incredible blend of half-facts and outdated theory. And to top it all, Craig has the beautiful stage presence to start them with: "To set the facts straight". There are at least a dozen observed phenomena that cannot be explained by Craig's paradigm; all of which are explained by the newer theories I tried to share with him in our "private correspondence". It seems he could not cope with the new info. > Three factual errors in one sentence. > Would you trust someone who misspeaks more often than Pres. Reagan > to give you sound medical advice? My question exactly. Who are you going to believe? You deserve what you get based on how close you get to the "facts" in this game. The regeneration of tooth enamel via microtubular flow was proven >10m years ago when fluorescent antibody research could be combined with radioactive tracer technology. Craig Werner can no more be expected to read everything than I can. The difference seems to be two fold: 1) when new info comes out I want to learn about it while Craig's first reaction is to deny it. 2) Because my full time profession is clinical medicine, I get to test out the new theories and find out the most important thing there is: do they work? > > [And if you think this is harsh, you should see the letter I sent > him privately!] > Come on! Let's see all of them. I guess any more letters I send to Craig should be "open letters" on the net. -- cbosgd!ukma!wws(Walt Stoll) YOU Walt Stoll, MD, ABFP Founder & Medical Director ARE MORE Holistic Medical Centre 1412 North Broadway Lexington, Kentucky 40505 THAN YOU THINK (606) 233-4273
