Digging into my Cessna 150 manual, I note that it says that during a full-power runup, the engine should turn 2360-2460 RPM. While the tach may be off a few hundred RPM, it would probably be worth while to run the engine up to full power briefly before takeoff and remember how fast it turns. If it does something markedly different next time, you know something is amiss.
