The two Departments operate a joint computing facility which serves their research and instructional needs. The active user community consists of approximately 30 faculty; 120 graduate students, post-docs, affiliates, etc; and, during the academic term, between 400 and 500 undergraduates enrolled in courses. The present Math/Stat hardware includes: 5 VAX 11-750s running 4.2 BSD UNIX which are networked together and to other campus systems; a Develcon portselec- tor; an Imagen laser printer; graphics equipment; and other peripherals. Several MicroVAX II's are on order. Both Departments anticipate continued growth of computing needs and facilities for at least the next several years. The System Manager is responsible for daily operations and long term planning for the entire hardware and system software environment. S/he works with applications software personnel who are responsible for the applications software environment; s/he is assisted by and supervises several technical and administrative staff. Minimum Qualifications: Systems analysis and managerial experience. Extensive knowledge of UNIX, including advanced systems programming. Hardware knowledge and troubleshooting. Excellent communication skills. College degree and 5 years additional experience or equivalent education. Salary range is $41,300 to $50,000 per year, depending on experience.
