Sorry, Hisham, but Egypt was fighting with Soviet weapons, was cooperating with Syria, and was not a US ally (which is what Farzin said). I do not recall saying that there was not an egyptian soldier, ...etc. I guess, my pronouncements were pretty fuzzy and neglected Sadat's earlier break with USSR, but in 72 Sadat's main reason was that USSR was not militant enough towards Israel. Needless to say USSR still was rooting for Egypt/Syria in 73. Moral remains the same: in 1973 US won itself a new ally while Israel cooperated. Mike Cherepov
