The time has probably come to replace the original equipment battery
on my VW Rabbit. I am very impressed with the longevity of the
original equipment battery, which has been in the car 6-1/2 years,
110K miles, and several severe discharges. It's also the
old-fashioned kind that you can check and add water to if it needs
it. It's still not quite dead, but may not make it through another
spell of -25 degree days. I have never had a battery come close to
this in longevity, and wonder if VW (or whoever makes it for them)
really does have superior technology, or if I was just lucky. The
batter is an odd size anyway, and I haven't seen any bargains on it
recently, and I am considering paying the premium to get another VW
battery from a dealer. Does anyone out there in net-land have any
opinions on VW batteries I should consider?
