I suspect that there is a lot of insecurity out there.  If your are going
to live a life full of experience, it is inevitable that you will approach
already connected people -- after all, if they are alive and do something
other than fixate on a CRT, they will be in contact with other people,
often intimately.  As the song goes: "Flesh and blood needs flesh and blood.

I would much rather find out sooner than later that the person that I am
talking to is currently unavailable (there are, of course, degrees of
unavailablenss).  If my immediate, pressing goal is to meet somebody to
share in the pleasures of the flesh (a CRT only offers so much solace),
I would prefer to allocate my resources. Naturally, this does NOT mean that
the unavailable person is in anyway not a worthwhile human being - just that
if I am in lust, I am in lust. . It all depends on context, sometimes what you
want most is a non-sexual context relationship. When this happens, it is
again nice to straighten out your roles reasonably quickly.
