It would be particularly useful to have binary compatiblity in cases where
more than one version of Unix runs on the same machine, not just the same cpu.
It would save a lot of time converting things from Xenix to Venix, or whatever.


As has been pointed out already, if they are all binary compatible, you can
just pop in a disk and run the program instead of look for a brand-A disk to
replace your brand-B one.


I think it would be neat if you could have some machine-independent form to
use for distributing software, so then I don't even have to get a new copy for
my XYZ processor based machine.  Of course that would be too much like giving
out source code...
