In article <2079@reed.UUCP> thoma@reed.UUCP (Ann Muir Thomas) writes:

Ever notice how someone in the mass media can coin a new buzzword like
'yuppie' to describe a certain class of people and within a few months
most people are convinced the mass media have discovered a Real
Phenomenon? Hey, it's like going down South and every time you see
someone with sideburns driving a pickup truck saying to yourself
"there goes another G_d d_mned cracker." Within a few months you've
convinced yourself that everyone who fits your stereotype is a
contemptible person who beats his dawg and his wummin and would
probably cut your Northern throat if he had half a chance.

So there is a class of people called 'yuppies.' They all eat brie and
drink Perrier after working out at the Spa three times a week. Yuppies
network instead of meeting people. They're all ultraconservative and
totally superficial people who are into displays of status. You see,
it's just like black folks; we all KNOW they all love to eat
watermelon and have great senses of natural rhythm...
