Mahler washes > his entire brain out at you. After a while it becomes numbing. Try the Das Lied Von Der Erde. (Bernstien with the Vienna is a great recording if it is still around). A very late work, and very compact (for Mahler) except for the last movement. I like the entire work now, but it took a number of years for my appreciation of the sixth movement to catch up with my appreciation for the first five.
