Gaston Gonnet's recent article on SMP reminds me that a
group (self/ ffitch/ Padget) at Bath wrote to CACM on 30th.
June complaining about that article, and enclosing a reply
for the ACM Forum.  Unfortunately, CACM lost that letter.
I now have a letter from Ashenhurst (the Forum editor)
dated the 14th. October, saying "We will probably wish to
publish it, along with one other letter received".
Unfortunately, Ashenhurst finds that 100^3-100*100*100
is "somewhat overly technically detailed".
We share Gonnet's regret that this article was
published.
