Subject; what's the minimum cost of a good MANY-track set-up?

I'm not naive about synthesizers, but my current setup
is not MIDI. And, it leaves a lot to be desired. I am considering
a new setup and would like some suggestions.

What I want - MANY tracks of digital-sampled instruments.
The ability to mimic a decent sized orchestra. Screen/music-notation
oriented editor. And be capable of storing long/dense sequences.
MANY = at LEAST 32 tracks.

I already have a Macintosh, so it would be nice if that were
the PC involved in the final setup.

Is 'Total Music' as good as the ads say? Anyone have it?

I can't afford 10 mirages. Any other ways around this?
Sync-to-tape?

I am a good keyboardist, but don't care whether the setup
has keys or not. Same for live performance. This is for home
studio recording.

Thanks for any suggestions. - Karl
