If I feel a cold coming on, I purposely dress very warm, and sleep very warm, on the verge of discomfort. This usually reduces the duration and intensity of the symptoms (I know, that's just a guess, there is nothing to compare them to!). Why does it work? Because an elevated temperature (fever) may not just be a side effect of illness, it may actually be an attempt by your body to deter the reproduction of the infecting organisms. If this concept is correct, purposely staying (uncomfortably but not dangerously) warm helps hold the infection at bay. Then again it may just be a placebo. All I know is, it works for me.
