And in John Byrne's Fantastic Four we have the Macy's thanksgiving parade
with a blimp of Skywise, a scene where the Human Torch watches a rehersal
of a play based on elfquest (#3?), and the nightcrawler mini-series has
little petalwing-preserver types named Pini's (The Pini's put out elfqest)
as well as the occasional appearance of elfquest t-shirts on marvel charachters.

Like rock and roll, comics tends to be an art form where self adulation is
encouraged.
