This coming weekend I will be chaperoning our church's youth
group in a bike hike at the Elroy-Sparta bike trail in Wisconsin.
The group will consist of around 20 youth aged 12-16 years, and 4
to 6 adults. The trail is an old railroad bed with grades never
exceeding 3%. This is a 64 mile two-way trail; we plan to cover 32
miles on Saturday, and the return trip on Sunday. With little long
range cycling experience, how will the youth fare on a trail this
long? I would guess that we will have little over 6 hours each day
to ride.
Can some experienced cyclist give me an idea whether the group
can handle a trail of this magnitude?
