You might try Nota Bene, by Dragonfly.  It is based upon XyWrite, from XyQuest
and FYI Database here in Austin.  Sorry I don't recall where Dragonfly is,
but perhaps XyQuest or FYI could tell you how to get in touch with them.

Nota Bene is not specifically geared toward scientific users, but it has
entire keyboard and printer definitions devoted to scientific stuff, just as
they do for various foreign language character sets.  It is really good stuff!
