For the last three or so years of their visits to this campus, the CSO has played that ghastly piece every single time as their encore. Why do they have to spoil an otherwise beautiful concert with so banal a practice? Symphony orchestras are neither required nor expected to play encores. This year we were graced with two concerts - different programs - on consecutive nights. The first ended with Tchaikovsky's 4th, the second with Stravinsky's Firebird. And each time they insisted in following these tempestuous finales with that damned Berlioz piece - a rotten anticlimax to an otherwise exhilarating performance. Will anyone join me in Citizens Against Rakoczy? Mike Faiman, Urbana, Illinois
