Along the lines of people misunderstanding photography and how cameras
in general work:

When I was in Iran, around '77, we saw an American GI taking pictures of
an old man on a donkey.  A few minutes later the unfortunate GI was stopped
by an Iranian soldier who proceeded to roundly berate for attempting to
take pictures of a secret military base.  After much arguing and discussion
the Iranian grabbed the camera, removed the film held it up to look at
the frames and said, "There's nothing on this film..." and handed it back
to the shocked GI.
