   Way back in '78, when I was a wandering student in the Andes region 
   of Ecuador, I had the chance to partake of roasted guinea pig.  It 
   was cooked by a street vendor (I took some foolish chances in those
   days) on a spit over coals.  He brushed the beastie with some thick
   orange grease (probably fat with some spices in it) and turned the
   spit occasionally.  The meat wasn't too bad--resembling chicken, as
   I recall, but the grease was enough to gag you.  I even have a 
   picture of a woman selling live guinea pigs in the market place.
   Such memories...
