Boggs is 27 and has about 750 hits. He would have to average 250 hits a year until he is 40 just to get to 4000. Unfortunately, he was 25 years old in his first full season. Tim Raines is 25 and would have to average about 210 hits until he is 40. Cal Ripken, now 24, would have to average 200. The best chance belongs to Robin Yount who is 29 and will get his 2000th hit next year. If he can average 190 hits for the next 11 years, he will get to 4000. One of the necessary elements in breaking a record like Rose's (or Aaron's) is a very early start (Yount came up at the age of 17) or a late finish. Josh Rosenbluth (...!ihnp4!houxm!houem!jhr2)
