Seeing all this comparison between The Gladiator and Superman, I noticed that
no one mentioned that Byrne Even used a little play on words (or letters 
actually) in the FF issue before the Gladiator story. At the end of the issue
there was the usual "Next Issue" preview & if memory serves, it said something
like "Next Issue: superman". I'm not sure but I even think that the story with
the Gladiator was called "superman". So I doubt the simlarity is coincidental.
