Why do people need to have the net.personals mailing list be done with
anonymous numbers? It strikes me that this will be enough of a bother
that nobody will do it, and will go back to the old method of reading
netnews, getting interested in somebody by their posting style and what
they may have to say, and then sending them mail. One of the reasons that
the net works so well is that there is basically no way to separate your
name from what you say. This would not be true in an "anonymous"
net.personals system. I, for one, would rather post to the net and take
my chances than send mail to somebody and have them send other people mail
that has my message but not my name, and make anybody who is interested
send mail back to the moderator, who then sends me mail (at what point
do numbers turn back into people's names and get the moderator the hell
out of the loop?)

Anyway.
