Conflicting rumours abound as to Atari's intention to remedy this situation, but the best theory is that it won't be fixed until all of their supply of SS drives are exhausted. (Also hard drives won't be available until they figure that everyone went for a DS drive.) Really this ain't so bad, unless you just wanted to trash your small drive and go for two big ones.
