Personally, I get a lot out of reading assertions/questions/flames of even novice 'C' programmers (although I consider myself something of an expert :-)). Even if it's just a matter of seeing which features of C confuse the newcomers. (this can be helpful when people come by your office to ask you C questions) It does get a bit tiresome when people jump in with wrong info or mis-informed opinions and present them as fact; but I think we all realize that we shouldn't believe everything we read here. I use this newsgroup as a jumping-off point for my own explorations of the finer points of C. Finally, I think it's good that a few authorities (notably Guy Harris) who actually *do* know what they're talking about are there to keep us on our toes.
