If you are using a VAX (VMS 3.7) and using the EDT editor with vaxmail
then occasionally, and for no know reason, the editor will append a
non existant file (mail.tmp) to your message. This message is the last
file you edited in vaxmail. You probably would not even notice it unless
you copied yourself on the message (after it was sent). This happened to
me a while back when posting to net.music. All of the net.vultures
(Rosen etc.) pounced without mercy. I also sent the same message, a
inflammatory poke in fun at a fishing buddy, to everyone I corisponded
with for several days.
