This may not apply to terminal programs besides Macterminal.  It sends
a bunch of cursor moves when you do Option-click.  Sometimes it gets
messed up and doesn't move where you expect.  At least for vi, it would
usually be more efficient and reliable if it sent a 0, followed by
vertical moves, followed by absolute column number.
