I get the feeling after seeing/hearing/hearing about the last three
Yankees-Blue Jays games (especially the last two) that I am seeing
two chapters of the same book, and I *don't* like the plot!! It
appears that the Yankees don't have *pennant* fever, they just have
a fever, apparently caused by something terminal, in which case they
have approximately 20 games to live. I was especially dismayed by
the 2nd game, in which Niekro *could* have gotten #300, *as well as*
a shutout (in which case he would supposedly have been the oldest
pitcher (*officially*) to pitch one, *AS WELL AS* a complete game,
which Yankee pitchers do *not* get these days. Oh, well, I didn't
*really* want to see another rerun of Yankees vs. Royals in the
playoffs. :-)
