VERSATEC Inc. sells Versaplot 9 (a software package that has a working
driver as well as COMPLOT FORTRAN plotting routine library). This works
beautifully. The driver looks for a two byte header to determine if it
should print, plot, print/swap, or plot/swap (assuming the file is a
`binary' file). I am EXTREMELY pleased with this software, and it seems
to me that the SLAC stuff could VERY easily be modified to write a two
byte header (instead of a one byte header that I believe it writes in
the version I have). I suggest you call Versatec and ask if you can buy
the driver separately (if you don't like COMPLOT).

p.s. I have no ties to Versatec and make no guarentees that the above
     exists or works.
