There is a possible solution to the regional personals problem
which I have not seen mentioned yet: local Bulletin Board System
micros.  There are several such public-access machines here in
Austin which are geared primarily to "match-making" functions.
These would seem to be an ideal solution to the problem.  (If
there aren't any in your city, you could always set one up.)
In addition, some other BBS'es have boards specifically created
so that people can introduce themselves to the other users of
the BBS.  Most of these systems have some sort of private E-mail
facility, so you can send a message to that nice-sounding MOTOS.

All you need is a terminal and a modem...

BTW, please don't swamp me with requests for more information
about specifics; they vary from system to system.
