I have written various programs that generate postscript, including
troff filters, drivers for our local graphics package (grogan), and
plain text filters. It is all quite straightforward, and I can supply
them if you want.

We are getting TeX, and Scribe is too expensive for us, but I imagine that
it would be fairly easy to develop postscript generators for these.
