i'm beginning to wonder about net.flame - who remembers disclaimers? it's
been *my* impression that what a person says in net.flame is taken to be the
opinions of the individual who signs his name (be it at the end or in the
header), and not some statement of corporate policy. i see no need to make
sweeping generalizations about a company because it has a few vociferous
jerks. even if a disclaimer isn't explicitly stated, it seems to me that
a responsible individual would imply one.

i wouldn't put the at&t people who post "nj for sale" ads in the same class
as don and dave, here, either. seems to me that the at&t people involved here
(i assume they work in nj) are simply showing signs of an advanced sense of
humor to be enjoyed and respected for its ability to recognize humor in itself.
don and dave are displaying a raving paranoia that i would recommend
psychological counseling for - nothing foolish or funny about it. there's no
need to insult at&t people by associating them with don and dave, or dec people
for that matter. don and dave are *NOT* a representative slice of any large
collection of individuals, such as dec employees, residents of maine, etc.

don and dave (and whoever) are entitled to their opinions, though, and the
purpose of net.flame is to provide an avenue of expression for opinion, no?
my opinion is that they can't possibly be trying to be recognized as a credible
source of constructive advice, and that *i* don't want to be caught up in
generalizations about the character of these clowns. they are jerks, but they
are jerks ALL BY THEMSELVES. and they're hard to not react to, like the kid
on the other side of the classroom in third grade who made faces at other kids
to get them in trouble - but ignore him and you take away his fun. pay
attention to him, and he'll just keep doing it - simply because he feels a
need to generate a reaction, and he found a successful method.

disclaimer:
this is one individual's opinion. agree with me, or flame me for it, but
don't make assumptions about someone else because of it.
