				 MRA

Chris has left the net, I hope it isn't in bad form to reply to his ideas
now.

I have first hand experience as an advertiser in (and responder to)
the personal column of a local weekly newspaper. I am pleased with
my experience, and don't feel that the medium promoted a MRA in me
or in anyone I've met. My ad included statements (or are they
"veiled references" :-) suggestive of the sexuality of a woman that
I would hope for in a SO. I hope that does not equal a MRA.

To open a NEW discussion:

My paraphrase of the classic bozo ad (this was printed in Portland):

(Superlatives) Male, self made MILLIONAIRE, seeks (superlatives)
			  ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
female for European travel, who can pay her own way. Box XXXXX.
                                 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I have personally judged some advertisers as bozos and chauvinist pigs,
but I believe the great majority of advertisers are sincere, interesting,
and nice people. I am posting my recent print ad below, to stimulate
discussion on PRINT ads usefulness/completeness/vagueness/truthfulness/
terseness/etc.

DO I HAVE SPRING FEVER OR TESTOSTERONE POISONING? Tall
smiling 27 year non-nerd engineer wants fast friendship with
friendly, feminist, confident & intelligent woman with
healthy libido, 25-45. I like fast cars, slow airplanes,
medium motorcycles, skiing steeps & lazy, loving Saturdays.
I love JAZZ & acoustic music and like others for dancing.
Let's SHARE humor, concerts, dinners, dreams, romance &
whatever makes you laugh, smile, & purr.

Feel free to speculate as to what type of person I might be, to print such
a thing. There are a couple of people on the net I think would defend
me. Right, Jim? :-)
