From the California Vehicle Code, Div. 11, Section 21658a:

	"A vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practical entirely
within a single lane..."

I've seen motorcyclists get cited for it but I don't know under which
section of the CVC. CHP of course can do anything they want. It does
seem dangerous.
