I thought the whole thing had died before the college students left for the summer. I guess I was wrong--but it wouldn't be the first time if you ask some of the people who sent me mail last spring telling me exactly how educated and mature they thought the people who disagreed with them were. So much for tolerance and respect for others' opinions. Anyway. I guess I'll add my two cents, for what it's worth (don't say two cents either). To do this, lemme ask you a few questions. How many of you drive faster than 55 mph on the highway? How many of you had an alcoholic drink before you were legal? How many of you spark up the occasional joint? Now the big one... How many of you said "Not Me" to all 3 of those questions but do it anyway? What I mean to prove by those questions is this: laws that are morally NECESSARY to some are OFFENSIVE to others. And the portion of the populace that is offended will break the law. OK. Now I KNOW that some wise-ass is gonna say "OK, so what if I think murder is morally correct and the law preventing it is offensive to me?" And to this wise- ass, I will say, "You, buddy, are a psycho." But he has a point. Of course, when we break the law, we are ready to accept the con- sequences of doing so. I myself just got a friendly little note from a New Hampshire state trooper on I-93 for answering "yes" to that first question up there. I was breaking the law and I am guilty. Terrif. So if this nut-hatch wants to go kill someone, great. I just wanna be there when they turn the juice on and fry him. OK. How does this relate to the question at hand. I feel that if people want to post stuff that the Miami Herald owns, let em post it. And if the Herald cares, then let them come to us and tell us to stop. If not, then keep doing it. I dont think in this instance this law is going to mean a tremendous loss of life or a sharp rise in unemployment if it is broken. The thing that bothers me are the net police, crying that we're doing terrible injury to the laws of the United States, Can- ada, Venezuela, Zanzibar, etc., because a couple of guys think something is funny and want to share it. Before it escapes me....one more question. How many of you have posted to the net something youve seen in print? --Ross -- ---------------------------------------------- Ross Jacobs {ihnp4,decvax,linus}!dartvax!rossj ARPA: rossj%dartmouth@csnet-relay CSNET: rossj@dartmouth
