Thanks to all who responded to my inquiries on this topic.  I got in touch
with Green Hills, who in turn put me in touch with Kaulakis Enterprises,
who distribute the Green Hills compiler for 68000 Xenix systems such as
Radio Shack and Microbar.  As advertised, the compiler is highly compatible
with existing utilities, not significantly slower than the standard compiler,
and produces code that averages 25% smaller and 25% faster.  Last but not
least, they have been very responsive to our needs.  I recommend them
enthusiastically..
