Probably the remaining human Pak removed the Tree-Of-Life virus from the
atmosphere. They had to remove all the destroyed 'cities', etc. also because
this would let normal humans know about thier existance (it would have
been mentioned if the ruins had been later found.) I believe it is 
mentioned in one of the _Ringworld_ books that Louis Wu had been on Home
for some reason or another (i.e. Home was resettled.)
