There is a company in Cambridge Mass that makes an accellerator  
board for the XT.  It is an add-on board (no connections or  
modifications to the mother board) based on the 286.  The user
can run the XT native (not using the 286 board) or else he/she  
can run the 286 board (which turns the 8088 into an I/O processor).
The 286 board has its own memory (up to 2 meg).  Note that the 
board runs with no modifications to MS-DOS.

The 286 board is called the AccellerATor and is marketed by
