My Sony Sl-2710, a mere infant a few weeks old, has developed a problem on
record, such that when I play back anything that I've recorded since a few
hours ago, there's a tremendous vertical flutter in the picture. It
plays previously recorded tapes fine, and naturally I've tried recording on
more than one tape since then. Questions:

1. Out of morbid curiousity, could anyone hazard a guess as to what's wrong?

2. My venerable years-old Zenith worked like a top for several years after I
bought it. I can still shell out $30 and get a contract covering a year's
parts and labor for the new Sony; I guess that's the thing to do if these
newer machines are really trouble prone?
