Untanned 98 pound weaklings!! I work all day, right here in front of my
terminal. I'm hardly untanned - I spend as much time as I can on the beach.
Also, I don't think you could call me a 98 pound weakling to my face and
survive, and I didn't stay home the night of the prom.

Do you realize where you would be right now without computers??? I bet you
can't even add. And don't tell me about how that's caused by the computers,
because as a Computer Science student, I had to take several courses in
Calc, Linear Algebra, Statistics, and Probability, not to mention several
math-oriented Computer courses.

Without computers, you couldn't even go to the bank! Do you really think that
a corporation the size of a bank could process that many transactions without
computers??? You couldn't make long distance phone calls either - without the
use of computers, getting sattelites into space is next to impossible, never
mind the digital telephone network we all enjoy! Good quality transmission
and fast connection in today's world (there are a lot of phones out there...)
would be impossible.

The cost of a computer is much less than hiring people to perform error-prone
work, such as accounting. We haven't replaced CPA's *yet*, but CPA's don't
perform most of the work - the clerks with the high school education (like you)
are the ones who do the mundane chores.

And here I am, justifing my work to you, who will never understand how the
computer system I work on will save the telephone companies millions,
and lowering your phone bill in the process.

BTW, yes, there are a few people around here (probably a higher percentage than
usual) who qualify as geeks, but those of us who don't wear inch-thick
glasses and weigh 98 pounds are *very* offended by the sterotyping of the
industry as a whole!!!
