Well, now, it sound like a test for "real life"! Actually, given the
presently high incomes of people in the medical profession, maybe it is the
closest approximation to what the majority of people out there experience
in real life that you will face. (On the other hand, given the glut in
the medical profession...).

Most people, in the ceremony in which they get married (as you by your use
of the word "fiance" suggest you are planning to do) make various pledges
of loyalty and support; various opposites are listed, one of which is good,
one of which is bad, in each case. (Sadly, many people ignore the bad ones,
assuming they reflect some unattainable worst-case condition against which
their long-term bliss may be smugly contrasted.) Of course, nowadays, some
people don't do that any more, but that's a whole different issue.

Well, if you are going to do this, you might as well do it now too. It
sounds like he is going through a difficult time in his life; and you have
to choose either to share in it, or not to. The former is the path you
have chosen when things were going well; the question is, do you also choose
it now?

I think it is a good test. More people should do it.
