The racers finally got a hard stage in the Nevada City - Trukee Road
Race. This race had a lot of breakaways that were caught. In the
remaining miles a break formed with Davis Phinney, Bernard Hinault
and Steve Speaks. Davis did most of the work as Hinault was ordered
to sit on. As they came in the the finish there were no markers for
1K, 500M, 200M. Also about a block before the finish there was a
Rodeo Days banner across the road. Davis sprinted for the wrong
banner. Hinault came around and won the stage. Understandably Davis
was not happy with the results and felt he could have won the stage.
Hinault said that he liked this stage. Wednesday's stages are the
Tahoe to Reno Road Race and the Reno Twilight Criterium. Thursday
is a travel day for the men and the women start with a twilight
criterium in Grand Junction. Friday is the Colorado National Monument
"Tour of the Moon" Road Race.
