Certainly we can count outdoor, planned gardens and arboretums with labelled flora. What about planned gardens for which there is perhaps a guiding brochure, but whose flora is otherwise unlabelled? What about unplanned "gardens" (nature walks) with flora-identifying brochures? Does the Botanical Museum count, or greenhouses open to the public? For me, many of these places are functionally equivalent; they may not be for you. There are arboretums or gardens in most major urban areas, and many universities have one too-- that's a lot to list! In order to present a list that is not unbounded, I have only included places whose primary function seems to be display of botanical specimens. I have more detail about some of these places; write if interested. I have NOT visited all of these places; I THINK all of them label species. ** begin botanical garden list ** Arnold Arboretum, Boston, MA. Free. Native & introduced trees.
