I am *really* upset. Between August - November of 1984, I have
contacted AT&T International about DItroff, got necessary paperwork
together, and sent everything, along with a PO, to AT&T International
by the end of November. A week later, I was informed by AT&T that
our request was forwarded to AT&T Canada offices. After a couple of
months of waiting, we discovered, to our horror, that AT&T Canada did
not know anything about our request, paperwork, PO etc. We have tried
to get the AT&T salesman to look after this matter, and at one point,
he stopped returning our calls. Now, we are in the middle of August,
and only a week ago, we receive the necessary contracts to sign, along
with a *bill* charging us for 500 odd dollars for DItroff. I cannot
even imagine what has happened to our original request and PO. Of course,
the salesman choose to take his 2 weeks of holidays right at this time,
and nobody else knows anything about this matter. They do not even
know what a PO (Purchase Order) is. I *still* do not have the DItroff,
nor any inclination as to when I may get it. Perhaps it will take another
three months to get the tape from U.S.A, not to mention problems across
the border. I will not even mention numerous other requests from AT&T
that took 6-8 months to process.
It is this very company that claims to have a fair share
of the computer hardware/software market, and tries to sell software
with ridiculous (rather comical) prices. I found it very hard to
believe that AT&T is serious about business, and knows anything more
than selling telephones. Incompetence, coupled with a great deal of
arrogance, and lack of know-how, sums up AT&T in computer business.
They'd rather sue anybody who use UN*X without a trademark notice than
get their act together. I shudder to think that UN*X standard will be
in the control of this company. (What was the standard last week ?? Did
AT&T come up with sVr3 as *the* new standard ??)
