Texas, Astronomy, Austin, TX Lines: 35 : I recently bought a new chamfering router bit that has a wheel as a pilot instead of a solid cylinder that turns with the bit. With my first chamfering bit I got to where I did not scorch soft woods any more, but I still got a glaze on the wood from the pilot turning and sliding on the wood. The new bit costs four times as much as the old one, but I hope to be able to bevel the yards and yards of maple that I wish to without this horrible glaze. Incidentally, the bit is made by Makita, and it is carbide tipped. It is a lot sharper than the (Vermont American) high speed steel bit that I used before. The brand name probably does not matter (?). : : : : : : : : : : shaft : : : : : : : : : : ----- ----- ----- ----- \ / \ / \ / flukes \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / : : : : solid : : : : wheel ----- -------
