The only speeding ticket I've ever got was in Missouri. I was sure
that I was doing under 65 but the cop said 66 mph. When I went to
pay for the ticket they said that they usually let people go if
they were doing less than 65. Is Missouri ultra strict? Which
states are the strictest states? I've been following the discussion
on radar detectors and I'm wondering if we could compile an informal
survey of states and defacto speed limits.

To start it off:

In California, at least on the freeways the police do not use
radar because there are usually 4 lanes in each direction and
they cannot be sure whose car set it off. They did use radar when
it first came out but too many people went to court to appeal their
tickets. Usually they do not ticket unless you're doing over 65.
In the deserts, I-10, I-40, I've seen people go pretty fast.
I think you can get away with speed from 65-70 mph.

(I suppose I better insert a disclaimer and say that the above
observations are only heresay...)
