Another anecdote from my personal files:
   I have broken a board with my hand (and felt really silly doing it).  I
felt pain.  I chose not to make it *hurt*.  And if somebody broke a board over
my (or Chuck Norris') head, it would still hurt.  The point is that you can't be
constantly preparing yourself mentally for that board to hit.  You could make
damn sure nobody was sneaking up on you with a board in hand, but that
(symbolically speaking) would take all the fun out of life, wouldn't it?
