Any seconds? No - he's not being a pessimist, he's being a cynic. There is a difference. I'm never a pessimist, but I'm becoming more and more cynical all the time. This is not to say that I agree with Edwin, because I do not. > This really strikes deeply at me because I know that if it hadn't been >for this "fake" warmth that was expressed, I might not have made it through >the summer sane (No, I'm not exagerating, I really was in that bad a shape). > I'm glad that it helped Chris. It's good to know that this newsgroup does do some good. Don't let Ed's comment get to you too much though. You have to admit that the discussion did degenerate somewhat, But all in all I think it was a good thing to talk about, and it was one of the few discussions that until the very end kept going without people screaming at each other and calling each other names. It started out as talking about a real problem that many of us face, and people gave their opinions calmly, and gave each other support. I got letters from people saying that they could sure use a hug, and also appreciation for some of the articles that I posted. It seems to me that this is the kind of thing that this newsgroup should do more often. cheers - elizabeth g. purtell (Lady Godiva) "You're nothing if you can't adlib."
