	I am assuming you are running async.  Sounds like your VA3451 wants to
stay in VA3400-mode.  Check your hardware options to make certain that auto
identification of 212A mode is permitted.  Also, check your character length,
since the VA3451 will permit 8, 9, 10, and 11 bit lengths in high-speed mode,
but 212A modems only work with 9 and 10 bit character lengths.  10 bits is the
default setting on most 212A's.
