Are we talking about starvation or poverty?
For example, many (most) Ethiopians are starving,
along with the populations of several other African countries,
while many (most) people in some Latin American countries are very poor.

Correct me if I am wrong (as I am sure you will),
but if there are people actually starving in the latter countries,
it is not peasants working agribusiness lands, but some of those who
left the land and are living around large cities without means of supporting
themselves.

It does not make sense for landowners (no matter how immoral) to let their
populations get to the point of starvation, where they are useless for work.
