Two references in the past:

It should be mentioned that around 1978 200 scientists headed by Sagan
published full page ads in major US papers expressing concern about
the rise of astrology popularity in "a scientific age."

There is a Sunday LA Times Editorial debate  published around this
time which I am certain the Times reference service would help find
on this topic.  George Abell was the CON, and the PRO was someone
I was not familiar with.  Abell began his argument citing all of his
astrological stats.  The PRO-astrology person defended the need for
certain rituals in our society and the valuable service astrology
provided.
