Duties would include providing coverage of the various Unix operating systems, the writing, troubleshooting, and maintaining of systems and applications software, participation in the implementation of a rapidly expanding network, and providing support for faculty and administrative users. The degree of responsibility and/or supervision would depend on the level of experience of the successful applicant. Minimal requirements for the position are: a bachelors degree with emphasis on mathematics or computer science; a good working knowledge of the C programming language and the Unix operating system; some experience with various high level languages; a reliable and methodical approach to system responsibilities; and a pleasant and mature manner in dealing with faculty and students. Familiarity with VMS would be an advantage. This person would work directly with other systems staff and report to the Manager of Computer Services. Hours would be 9 AM to 5 PM nominally with occasional requirements at other times.
