I phoned David Clark to find out what the similarities and differences
between the H10-40 and H10-80 headsets were.

Similarities: they use the same microphone and earphone transducer.
The headband and cushion are also the same.

real differences: The -80 mike is mounted on a flexible gooseneck with the
wiring inside it. It is supposed to be easier to adjust than
the three-adjustment wire boom used on the other DC headsets.
The stirrups that hold the earcups are different, resulting in
less clamping pressure being applied to the head. This makes
the headset more comfortable and reduces the attenuation by 3dB.
(though I wonder if you couldn't get the same effect with one
of the other headsets just by bending the headband spring a bit).
The -80 is actually about 2 oz heavier. It has a volume control
for each ear; the -40 has only a single control.

cosmetic differences: Black paint on headband and mike boom on the -80
vs chrome on the other headsets. A thin layer of foam between your
ear and the ear transducer. A new earmuff design.

comment: If they were the same price, I would go for the -80 and try the
new mike boom. But the price difference isn't justified to me.
