I am not in a position to know, but $4x10**6 sounds reasonable. With 20K
attendees, that works out to $200 per head, which matches the registration
fee to order of magnitude anyway.

In addition, that figure does not surprise me. Take a look at a few things
that it gets spent on:

	1) Rental of Moscone Center for ~1.5-2 weeks (including setup and tear
	    down time)

	2) Rental (or amortization of purchase) of scads of video cameras,
mixers, cables, etc. (I think the GE Light Valve projectors are
	    loaned by GE)

	3) Lots of people flying in and out, planning, etc.

	4) Hiring guards, temporary clericals, etc etc during the convention.

	5) Publication of glossy color proceedings, catalogs, etc.

It is expensive, but I for one got a LOT out of it.

Burns
