Specifically: > As former manager of migrations at Lotus, I have seen almost every compatible that has come down the pike (and a lot that never made it out the door :-). Therefore, I feel qualified to spout off yet again :-> I have tried them all, and the best is the Compaq line. I have used the portable and the Plus extensivley, and I have never run into any incompatibility. They have even gone as far as to reserve most major ROM BIOS routines at the same entry address! (BTW - if you are doing direct calls into the ROM you deserve what you get.) The Compaq screen, with both hi-res text and foll CGA compatibility beats anything that has yet come out for the PC. I have less experience with their Deskpro and their '286 machines, but from what testing I did they seemed to have retained the same very high level of compatibility. I am in love with the Deskpro's video adapter, as it does all that the portable does on a large screen, with the ability to enable underline atribute if desired! There are no others I can recomend as highly, the best of the rest is only 95% compatible - depending on what software you run, you may never know the difference, then again, you may :-( I must add here a strong disclaimer: these opinions are my personal ones, having nothing to do w/ Lotus Development. *** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE *** -- Opinions expressed are public domain, and do not belong to Lotus Development Corp. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Simcha-Yitzchak Lerner {genrad|ihnp4|ima}!wjh12!talcott!sesame!slerner {cbosgd|harvard}!talcott!sesame!slerner slerner%sesame@harvard.ARPA
