There are only 2 monitors I would recommend for the 8 bit ATARIs.
1) Commodore 1702 (new version of the same 1701)
or
2) AMDEK 300

These are the only monitors which accept chroma/luminance inputs that
will give the crisp image that the ATARIs are capable of.
The XL has dropped the Chroma output, but the composite video signal
can be substituted. The luminance signal is still available.

Both of these monitors are available for about $200.
