I've been to Europe twice and both times rented a motorcycle.  If you
aren't interested, well...  But the scenic backroads of Europe are best
enjoyed from the saddle, I believe.  The people you meet tend to be more
friendly also, perhaps because you don't look like the typical Amercian
tourist.

You can arrange rentals from several different tour groups, such as
Beach's Motorcycle Adventures (in New York), or Edelweiss (also in New
York?).  We rented and travelled on our own, but Beach's runs a 3 week
tour through the Alps, and Edelweiss does a tour through France and
North Africa.  I have seen tours of Ireland and England/Scotland, as
