I am sorry to have to deal with this again, BUT ....

Our rascally VAX of late has been using this questionable
new file allocation scheme:  when the root pack, which /usr/spool
sits on, fills up, it appears to reallocate inodes from elsewhere 
on the pack.  Result:  Everything gets scrambled, news and mail
are lost, I curse the thing.

Seriously though, we have dropped news/mail from sometime on 
August 21 to sometime on August 22.  I will not know the exact 
times until the restore is complete.

And, by the way, if anyone knows why an 11/780 with 4.1 BSD and
2.10.2 news might be doing this anti-social thing when the file 
system fills up, you might let me know.
