Subject: TeX - How can I append to a macro definition?

I want to do something like
   \def\aaa{ \aaa more stuff added to the end }
but I can't figure out how to get the inside \aaa expanded during the
original definition, rather than at the time I actually use \aaa (i.e.
it goes into a loop ...).

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Much obliged!

John
