I use those for my daughter, too.  They're great, especially in a pool that isn't
shallow enough for her to wade in.  (The shallowest part of our pool is 3 feet which
is right at the top of her head!  I discovered a great way to wean her from the water
wings (that's what mine are called).  The water wings have two circular pillows of air
which are placed side-by-side.  I found that if I take the water out of one of the
pillows on each arm, there's still enough air to hold Anne up, but it gets her working
a little harder.  I'll probably experiment with gradually taking more and more air
out.
