If they're unaware, then the suggestions that have been posted about making some sort of noise yourself make eminent sense, from another angle: if they realize that they can hear your record/TV/reading-aloud-to-yourself even at moderate volume, then they can reason back to the fact that they are also being overheard. -And presumably will keep it quieter, unless they just don't care.
