Most people grow up within walls of parental and societal limitations, and do not feel they can take control of their lives. By associating with people who apparently can do so, they hope to share in their "exciting" lives, which in their youths seemed unavailable. After a while, they discover the difference lies in greater crudity and egoism, and they are the pawns of their exciting lovers.
