A while back, my pastor and his wife, Roger and Lana Callahan, did a seminar
on "Preparing for Marriage". Part of this I don't have the material from,
since it was specifically for those who were approaching marriage (and thus
I was not included). But I do have the material from the part which was open
to anyone. I think it offers some useful insights and things to think about
when people are thinking (at whatever degree of seriousness) about marrying.
(And yes, I did obtain Roger's permission to post all this stuff, though it
isn't copyrighted.)

Note that this was written from a Christian's perspective; but most of the
material in here is not at all specific to Christianity or any "religious"
belief, just to the way humans operate.

I am dividing the posting into six parts (corresponding to the six sides of
the three sheets of paper they handed out). I will post them as followups
to this article. They will include (they may not be posted, or arrive at
your site, in this order):

-- Starters: This was originally for use as conversation starters in the
group environment of the seminar. However, the questions can be useful
   for an individual.

-- Expectations: This asks you to focus on your expectations about marriage
   and where they came from.

-- Questions: This list of 45 questions hits on a lot of topics that it would
be wise to discuss before marrying.

-- Quotations: Quotes from authors ranging from Thoreau to Woody Allen about
   love, sex, and marriage.

-- Feelings: How to get in touch with your feelings so you can share them
(obviously useful in other relationships as well as marriage).

-- Matching: Match common accusations to what you're really feeling (useful
   for defusing arguments).
