Message-ID: <1071@noscvax.UUCP> Date: Fri, 16-Aug-85 13:49:21 EDT Article-I.D.: noscvax.1071 Posted: Fri Aug 16 13:49:21 1985 Date-Received: Fri, 23-Aug-85 19:42:41 EDT Distribution: net Organization: Naval Ocean Systems Center, San Diego Lines: 10 I believe that there is a generic name for the # symbol, popularly called the 'pound sign' or 'number sign'. Further, I believe that the name begins with 'octo-' (octopoint?). Extensive consultation with U.C.S.D., San Diego Public Library, the San Diego Union newspaper, my friends and relations have turned up nothing. Is there such a generic term? If so, what is it? Or am I imagining the whole thing? Thanks for whatever help you can give me on this. Bill Rupp
