My friendly local audio-dealer-cum-DeadHead claims that Mars Hotel is
supposed to be out on CD in the very near future (like, expected last week)
and was to have been put out by MFSL (the folks who do "Original Master
Recordings"). I saw an ad from MFSL about a Mars Hotel high-quality
cassette a couple of months ago, so this seems like a credible story.

Has anyone seen (better yet, heard:-) a Mars Hotel CD? If so, how is it?

I'm looking forward to seeing Dead material out on CD. Much as I would
like to see the recent stuff (particularly Dead Set and Reckoning) which is
on good masters, I would like even more to see some of the old stuff
cleaned up and re-released. It would be a blessing just to get something
better than the ultra-crappy pressings of Live Dead, for example...but
think what they could do to repair some of the mishandled recording. I'm
not talking about re-mastering (as with the current Aoxomoxoa discussion)
but simply some careful filtering and processing to clean up tape hiss and
distortion from too-high recording levels.
