(For those of you who've never been to Pittsburgh, this is the line with 9%+ grades. Also, the 1600 series cars have air brakes as well as electric brakes. With an air compressor on board, they have pneumatic sanders. Thenewer 1700 series cars are all electric, and depend on mere gravity to get the sand to the rails.)
