Sorry to interrupt your debate, but I think on this one point you haven't gone far enough. Given the state of the modern world, the above reasoning logically leads to the idea that the question of kids is linked to the question of _birth control_, rather than sex per se. Given that modern birth control methods are effective enough to allow recreational sex (i.e.: sex for the fun of it) and readily available enough that anyone who wants to can use them, it follows that the decision _not_ to use them is the crux of the matter with regard to having children. (Granted, the decision is often made by default). I agree that, in much of our society, neither marriage nor "SOship" are necessarily the governing factors in the decision to have children. I only wanted to point out that sex should be added to the list.
