Excellent comments on Adrienne's part!

Other factors, maybe:

1) Insecurity/Low Self-Esteem. They don't think they are `good enough'
so the guys who treat them nice must be either blind or stupid or playing
games. The guys who treat them bad at least are being realistic.

2) Martyrdom. Self-gratification from coping with jerks, forgiving them,
etc.

3) Entertainment. Life with a jerk is more interesting. It really is.
You never know what's going to happen next and you NEVER run out of
things to complain about. If this is the attraction, I recommend finding
a friend who's involved with a jerk, and getting the excitement vicariously.

4) Accessibility. Jerks have tremendous egos that are not easily bruised
by reality. They are more likely to approach a woman in the first place.
The nice guys are all on the sidelines, reading articles on what women
really want and, having normal egos, scared to death of rejection.

I was thinking that men must have their prototypical `woman they say
they don't want, but always get mixed up with'. I saw a reference to
a discussion on puppydogism, which I missed, but can guess. Is this
it? Any other candidates? And reasons why? I don't like it when the
discussion gets one-sided.
