The good news is that the PCJr, with enough add-on memory, is sufficiently
compatible with the PC family to run a wide variety of programs. Problems
occasionally arise with some (only some) copy-protection schemes which assume
the the drive controller has DMA. Thus, if you're looking for an inexpensive
PC clone, the PCJr, sufficiently discounted (like < $600), is a very good
deal.

The bad news is that makers of add-on boards are quite justifiably dropping
the Jr from their plans. If you're looking to expand the Jr, do it now.
Also, the lack of DMA can be a pain: keyboard accesses are disallowed during
disk accesses.
