I can't answer this question for elizabeth (Lady Godiva), but I can answer it
for myself.  My SO and I each have our own apartments.  Some nights we spend
at HIS place and some nights we spend at MY place.  Other nights, we each
spend at our respective places.  This gives us our own space when we need it.
Works out pretty neat.  We also don't run into hastles about how we spend
money or "you're not doing your share of the cleaning" and all that bullshit.
