Use one source and make a copy on both beta and VHS at the slowest tape speed. Then playback and compare clarity at normal speed and slow motion or still frame. The lower cost betas I have seen by Sanyo and Toshiba outperform the lower cost VHS units from RCA, Mitsubishi, and JVC, especially in the still frame. dave
