Now, a nearly self-contradictory flame: C'mon, what is this? Net.flame? Net.attack? It's supposed to be a SUPPORT group, not a forum for insecurity (I've stooped to this level, too; I feel rather foolish about it). I'd love to see things like: "Interesting point, Dave. Usually, though, I look at it this way..." "Hmmm.... I don't think so. At least, it doesn't work for me, but thanks for the idea. I'll think about it." "Sorry if I've mislead you; what I was really trying to say...." "Great! I'm glad that works for you! The last time I did something like that, though....." "I've never thought so. What do you think? Should I give it another try?" "Fascinating, Captain. StarFleet has always maintained that...." Anyway, you get the idea. Net.singles is a place to support other people, even if you disagree with them. I'm tired of seeing "You're full of it, guy; this is what MY book said" (my 'N' key is applying for social security benefits!). I'd much rather see "Where did you find that? I've always found that..." Some specific flames: Hugs? Silly? Maybe so, but don't you think it's nice that those who enjoy their warmth have the opportunity to do so? Color analysis: Fine! If you believe in it, go for it! If you don't, save your $$! But don't be raggin' on people, just 'cause they don't share your point of view, particularly on such an issue, dammit! Just because we disagree, doesn't mean that one of us is wrong! The Law of Excluded Middle doesn't apply to personal preferences. If you really got to get upset over something, start flaming your congressman about his position on (whatever). Sorry (but not TOO sorry) about the tirade. Now for the disclaimer: I concede that the single-to-noise ratio is a whole lot better than I'm holding forth. Fortunately. There has been, and still is, some really worthwhile stuff here. But let's cut out the attacks, hey? They serve no purpose. If I'm insecure to the point where the only way I can bring myself up is by rippin' you down, I may as well pack it in. Flames to net.flame, /dev/null, or me, whichever. Argumentative replies should be treated as flames. Followups here. Thanks for listening.
