An application can supply a procedure that will be called while it is switched out. (It's not the same as real multi-tasking, but it is better than nothing.) This procedure can do calculations, receive files, etc., but it has to be very careful about not stepping on anyone else. The Switcher documentation that has been supplied with the Software Supplement (and I would guess on Compuserve) was not complete, which is why it did not talk about the Switcher default document. It is hard for the documentation to keep up with a program that had been changing as much as the Switcher. In addition to the user documentation, there is supposed to be an "Inside Switcher" that explains things like the multi-tasking. One possible solution to the problem of getting the Finder (within the Switcher) to recognize new attributes set in FEdit. I haven't actually tried this, however. Eject the disk in question and throw away its disk icon. Run FEdit, choose open, THEN put the disk in. Make the change and switch into the Finder. The Finder should recognize the newly inserted disk and will display its icon. Larry -- Larry Rosenstein Apple Computer UUCP: {voder, idi, nsc, ios, mtxinu, dual}!apple!lsr CSNET: lsr@Apple.CSNET
