On at least one turnpike in Indiana the toll is charged based upon your entry and exit points which are punched (with the time) on a card. I've been through it a few time at average speeds *much* higher than 55, but the driver wasn't questioned. (Don't flame me, I wasn't the driver.) Seems they could save money on extra traffic patrols (assuming that they run extra squads just to catch speeders), but then, they would need extra enforcement personnel at the toll stations to deal with the beligerent gorilla who's just been told he owes the state 50 bucks.....
